  1. Moving Extortion.

We called Mr. Sharpstene's company A Few Good Men Moving & Storage, LLC in April 2019 to ask for a quote to move our household. Edith - one of his representatives - visited the home and provided an estimate. Afterwards, we asked Mr. Sharpstene to visit so that we may discuss price and show him some additional items. During this meeting and witnessed by others, Mr. Sharpstene stated that he believed Edith’s estimate based on weight was very low compared with his personal estimate and what he saw but nevertheless because we helped him get his start in the moving business, provided numerous referrals, and hired him to perform every personal move that we’ve ever made, he agreed that regardless of the weight, he would still reduce the estimate from Edith by $500 additional dollars, bringing the grand total for the move to $3,500.00. We agreed. A Few Good Men arrived the morning of the loading and provided the normal loading service. The new home is not ready yet, so we discussed having Mr. Sharpstene store the items for approximately 45 days. We agreed to his fee of an additional $900 to unload and reload the truck as well as $141 per week for storage fees. At the end of the loading day, we paid half of the moving expenses($1,750 plus 100% of the $900 for the unloading of his trucks and the reloading of his trucks at a future date as well as 4 weeks worth of rental at his facility). We expected the balance upon the final delivery to be $1,750.00. Yesterday Mr. Sharpstene called to inform us and demanded that we pay him many thousands of additional dollars to complete the move. I spoke with him again this morning and his position remain unchanged. We informed him that we would be seeking a legal remedy, a Public Relations remedy, and a regulator remedy for his illegal acts. He has breached his contract with us in addition to his good faith and reliability.

  2. Backed out of contract on day of move.

The movers came into our apartment, listened carefully to the list of what was to go and what was to remain, to be given to charity later, and then said they were going to bring the truck around to the nearest parking lot and be right back. They never returned, but an hour or so later our housemate received a call from the dispatcher, saying that they would not be moving us because they didn't like the fact that there was a litter box in the living room, and there was an odor they didn't like. Our housemate pressed for more details, but the dispatcher refused to provide them. Our move has been delayed several days while we find another company that will NOT break their contract like AFGM did, which is causing us considerable financial and emotional stress, compensation for which will be included in a breach of contract lawsuit.

  3. Stay Away From This Company!

The 3 men showed up at 8am ( forgetting their tools to undo furniture I had to open a box to find some tools to lend them) and ended at 9pm, when I had to say GO HOME (after the 6 hrs they quoted me at $1006, it was an $165 an hour charge after that)! They still hadn't put most of the furniture they took apart back together, and they had left a ton of my things back at the old house and they had left a sofa blocking the service elevator downstairs. These were the most slow, inefficient, untrained, inexperienced crew I have ever seen! DO NOT hire this company unless you want them to run up your bill by the hour and to end up paying twice as much as they quoted you ( That's what happened to me).

    1) They spent an hour trying to get a sofa into the service elevator on the dock and in the end left it right there in front of the elevator. The next morning Other people were moving and I had to ask their movers to remove it to a location so it wouldn't be in their way. Their mover (2 guys) instead, got it in the elevator and into my apt in 5 mins! YET A Few Good Men's 3 guys could not get it done and wasted 1 hr and $165 my time and money then left the sofa right in front of the elevator leaving me to deal with yet another inconvenience of finding someone to move it the next day. Why is it that two guys from another company could get the same sofa into my apt in 5 mins, yet A few Good Men charge due $165 an hour and took an hour trying to get it in then left it there!!

    2) Those same men from other company moved a two bedroom apt which had MUCH more than I had, she had lived there for 40 years! and they were done loading her by 12 noon (starting at 8am). I asked them to let me know when they were done with the move and they finished moving her into new location at 4pm. WHY ON EARTH would A Few Good Men take over 12hrs and still not be done, still leaving a lot of things still at my old house which I then had to pay other people to pick up (after paying $2394 for a Few Good men move of a 2 bedroom apt). So after paying $2394 for a Move, they arrived with no tools, charged me $116 for tape they didn't need to use and a $60 credit card FEE ( Had cash for the original quoted move and some extra but when they took so long I had to use credit card) my stuff is still left at the other house and I had to pay someone else to get it the next day, my furniture isn't put together and it took over 12 hrs at $165 an hr.

There is NO way this move should have taken 12 plus hrs nor cost what it did. I feel completely ripped off. It is utterly unacceptable. When I called their oFFICE mid-move to say this was crazy how long the MOVE was taking (at 4pm my new place still had no furniture in it) they were very rude on the call. They did nothing but try to make excuses and blame me for it taking so long, 'you have more stuff, you have too much stuff, if we had known we would have sent more guys'. YET I spoke several times before the move to this same person, who assured me several times that based on what I had, and I WENT OVER WHAT I HAD PIECE BY PIECE ROOM BY ROOM, she insisted, that 3 men could do this move in 5.5 hours 6 max. Itemized everything in each room and repeated that several times. I even called her back saying maybe we should get four men because these things can take long and she said again, "there is no way 3 men can't get this move done in 5.5-6hrs." Then when I called during the move at 4 pm and when we still had an empty apartment (they hadn't brought up the furniture and it was already 4pm) she started making excuses to me and arguing with me.

I went Room by room naming each item and number of boxes prior to selecting THIS COMPANY. I did this with several companies and I am SO SORRY I chose this one. I went based on her "expertise" and avid declarations that 3 men could get this done in 6 hrs at $1006 and I booked their team. The WORST thing I ever did and and everyone should know this! $2394 dollars later PLUS the Money I now spent to go pick up the REST of my things, plus the time and lateness of the day when I had to kick them out without having put my furniture back together and the leaving of my furniture by the elevator saying it doesn't fit (when others could fit it in minutes).

STAY AWAY from this company! The was the most awful move ever! I moved the SAME stuff 1 year ago for $1500 hiring 5 guys and renting a truck. I thought that was a lot so I went with this quote. NEVER AGAIN! I do not want anyone else to go through the day and the rip off expense that I went through when a $1006 quote becomes $2394.

    STAY AWAY!

  4. A Few Good Men Moving LLC.

I had a totally positive experience with A Few Good Men Moving & Storage. Everyone I spoke with to schedule the move was so professional and responsive. When they said they would call, they called. When they said the moving crew would show up, they showed up! The crew that picked up my furniture (Carlos, Andres and Sergio) were prompt, courteous and incredibly efficient. The crew that delivered my furniture (Marcos and Dorian) were as well. I highly recommend this company. If I ever need a moving company again, I will not hesitate at all to call them again.

  5. Damage to Expensive Cantilever Patio Umbrella.

I contracted with A Few Good Men Moving & Storage, LLC, (AFGM) of Youngsville, NC to move my household goods in early September 2016 because I like to use local small businesses whenever possible since I am a small business owner and want to support other small businesses.. Matt Sharpstein, the AFGM company manager, was very nice and friendly when he came out to make the estimate and briefly on the morning when the company loaded out my goods. He was only present for a couple of hours staying only long enough to supervise the loading of our baby grand piano. Matt's mother then came on the scene as the overall supervisor. Matt did not appear again during the load out or the off load at our new home - his mother supervised the offload as well.

One item that was moved was a new cantilever patio umbrella that was in good working condition when I closed it for the move as requested by Matt Sharpstein. The mover personnel that were tasked with moving the umbrella struggled to disassemble the base from the umbrella and did not appear to know how to disassemble the umbrella - they didn't even have the correct tools to remove the base from the umbrella, so I provided them the tools that the retailer had provided to me.

When the umbrella was offloaded at my new residence and set up on the outdoor patio in a location established by my wife since I was unable to be present during the offload. The mover personnel again struggled with reassembling the umbrella, but never mentioned any damage caused to the umbrella. However, when I arrived at my new home after the mover personnel had departed, I immediately noticed that the umbrella cord was hanging loosely outside of the umbrella housing - I had never noticed this before, so I cranked the umbrella to open it only to discover that the cord that raises and lowers the umbrella was hanging loosely because somehow it had been severed during the move.

I contacted Matt Sharpstein that same day and advised him of the damage to the umbrella and several other household items including the piano which had been dropped on one edge when it was being carried into the house. Matt became very defensive when I mentioned damages and asked me to elaborate on each one, which I did. He began to argue with me about each item, so I asked that he come to my new home and we could survey the damage together.

The next day, he came to the house (with his mother) and my wife and I showed him the umbrella first. He agreed that it was damaged and even noted that the base did not appear to be installed correctly. He called his office to check his schedule and made an appointment to return the next week when he would "bring his tools" and personally repair the umbrella. We continued the survey of the damages to our furnishings and Matt continued to become more argumentative and disputed almost every issue we showed him. His attitude and lack of respect for me and my wife made me very angry to the point that I left the room and had my wife show him the remaining items.

The next week, I was notified by email from AFGM that "after careful consideration, they decided to replace the umbrella rather than repair it." I said that was great, gave them information on the umbrella so they could get an exact replacement, and asked how we move forward from there. AFGM provided a damage claim form which we completed covering most of the items that were damaged including the umbrella and promptly returned it to AFGM.

AFGM contracted with a furniture restoration company to repair our furniture which was completed satisfactorily. However, I could not get any info from them regarding the status of the umbrella replacement.

Nine weeks after the umbrella was damaged by AFGM and agreed to by Matt Sharpstein, I received an emailed letter from the "claims department" of AFGM stating that AFGM was denying our claim of damage to the umbrella and stating that they believed that we were responsible for the damage by providing extensive force to the kevlar winding cord when opening the umbrella. The letter was signed by Raymond Sharpstein.

I sent a request to the "claims department" requesting that they reconsider their position and stand by their tag line of Honest, Reliable, Caring, and Efficient and honor the promise that AFGM had earlier made to replace the umbrella. Again, Raymond Sharpstein responded accusing me of the umbrella damage and denying the claim.

This company and the management are dishonest, unreliable, unethical, uncaring, and inefficient. Stay away from " A Few Good Men Moving & Storage, LLC" in Youngsville, NC. They are what gives the moving industry a bad reputation. This is not the only negative review of this company - several others are available for you to view and you will see many similarities in conduct by the Sharpsteins.

  6. Slowest Movers Ever! Rip Off!

Took twice as long as previous movers and the price was extreme! 8 hours to move a one bedroom apartment with travel distance of 1 mile. Also had a reserved elevator and no stairs to deal with. my advice, keep searching and DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY for your move!

  7. Do NOT Hire.

    DO NOT HIRE..

This company is a ripoff (you have been warned)!

Initially, it appears to be a very good company; and, their customer service reps Brian/Ops Mgr and Thomas/CSR have excellent marketing skills. However, once they have your deposit and you have contracted the work, the end results of services rendered are less than satisfactory!

You will be charged a lot of hidden charges (additional wait time, prior to unload and the movers refuse to unload furniture, until they are paid for overages and predicted time of finish by the driver and the labor).

Be advised, this company makes most of their money via sloth-like travel time and even slower load time; which means, their most skilled employees know how to "stretch" the work time. Thus, paid by the hour work accumulates $1100 plus, rapidly.. For example, a one- two bedroom apartment move will cost you well over $1100 within a 30 mile radius (and that does not include additional charges for bubble wrap of glass items).

More importantly, when you call to inquire about overages and refund of charges for unused time, Brian/Ops Mgr has a condescending attitude and tries to take control of the situation by attempting to convince you that billed rate is sufficient and agreed upon.. DO NOT ACCEPT.

Lastly, this company flies under the motto "A Few Good Men" - a title mostly used by our professional, dedicated men of the U.S. Armed Forces.

However, it is run by civilians with foreign accents and shady service! Stay away from this company.. Do yourself a few favors and patronize a moving company, elsewhere.. Take care!

  8. Do not use them!

Do NOT use this company. There service has gone down drastically since the first time I used them over six years ago. I scheduled a move for three men, only two showed up and they showed up almost two hours late. Once they finished loading my truck, they asked to be driven to a street corner and dropped off so they could meet up with the third man that was supposed to be loading for my move. An hour and a half later, they showed up at my new residence. It is only a 45 minute drive. The third man complained the entire time he was unloading. As they unloaded my furniture, it was ALL damaged! This was all new furniture and now it all has chips, scratches and scuff marks. They even scratched up the floors in my new residence because they dragged my furniture across it instead of carrying it. They then charged me for three men for the entire job as well as an additional hour that they did NOT work! When I complained, they agreed to refund me for the unused hour as well as give me the military discount rate for the 4 1/2 hours that the third man was not on location, so essentially refund me for the amount they overcharged me, but that was it! They did nothing about my damaged furniture nor the fact that the move took longer because they were late and the third man did not show, therefore, my storage unit, which was supposed to be apart of the move, was not moved, thereby, I had to pay an extra months storage fee too. They simply did nothing above and beyond. They acted like the refund they gave me was a favor when it really was due to them overcharging me! DO NOT USE THEM! Oh and on top of it, their movers tried to work a back door deal with me so the third man, that wasn't there for half the move, would get paid by the company. Are you kidding me!!

  9. Horrible company.

We had a horrible experience with these movers - they were 1.5 hrs late, didn't speak english, and charged us over $150 in hidden fees/charges. The owner told us one thing, and the movers another. When we called to talk to the owner to follow up on the inconsistencies and the charges he just said, those are our policies, sorry. He told us originally that there were no hidden fees and that they just charged by the 1/2 hr, they also charge you a fee for them to drive to you, for the truck, for gas, to drive back, etc.. Don't hire them.

  10. Moving my house.

This moving company provided me with great service for my move. The crew men were very hard working and were very professional. They were able to move a sofa sleeper from the basement into the truck and there was no damage. The previous movers I had hired damaged my walls so I was impressed with the expertise of these employees. Roberto and Andre were excellent workers and I would recommend this company to anyone. I was very pleased with their services.   .
