  1. Affected Consumer Review of Hawaii Island Movers, aka Acclaimed Movers.

They tricked me by advertising the name “Hawaii Island Movers,” (I thought this was Island Movers, the reputable company in Hawaii) as well as into an unauthorized charge, which I am now pursuing a lawsuit for. They lost personal belongings of mine, were 2-months late in delivering my things, I have boxes that belong to someone else, the boxes that are mine are damaged and in terrible shape, and I have lost personal money on my business because I trusted this company by shipping my business from Seattle to Hawaii.

I moved from Seattle back home to Hawaii and solicited bids from various moving companies. Hawaii Island Movers was the most affordable, plus they stated they'd assist with door to door pickup and delivery. For 100 cubic feet, they quoted me $2,500. Come pickup day- no one told me a different company (Acclaimed Movers and Storage) would be picking up my belongings. Niky D. (the person who quoted me) had a Hawaii Island Movers email and website. Today, both are not working (strange).

Unfortunately, at this point, we have our plane tickets to move to Hawaii, we have a move out date, and I cannot start the process over again to find a new shipping company. So, I was stuck with these guys.

At pick up, I was quoted to retrieve my personal belongings in a month. I had to put 50% down payment and told the guy how uncomfortable I was giving him my money while he treated my personal stuff like they were meant to be thrown in a dumpster. He laughed. Told me stop worrying and chill out. I knew at this very moment this whole thing was bad news and I got scammed.

3 months I had finally received my belongings. In between then, I called multiple times and spoke to multiple people who had no real idea where my stuff was located. Because I have now lost about $2,500 on my personal business (I have client’s work in my boxes and couldn’t work on their businesses since I couldn’t access their work) – I ask for some a discount to help alleviate my expenditures. They say I must talk to their manager. Guy calls me back and instead of taking my claim, he's more concerned about my business consulting services since he's quitting in a month and needed my services (WTH!). He says he just needs to take my credit card to have on file, and that nothing will be charged until he looks into things. 24 hours later- they charge me the remaining 50% balance due and completely goes against their word.

Arrival day was ok, expect that we are now missing boxes. We were clearly the last delivery that morning and the moving guys had extra belongings in their truck and asked if it were ours and if we wanted it. Wow!

Yes, I can understand I moved during the holidays - but this company agreed to the services, took on my business and have a responsibility to uphold their end of the deal or give me my money back. On top of that- the chaos and disorganization along the way makes me realize that no one here is trained properly or has any idea how to do their jobs.

Last thing – a guy calls me a week later and tells me he has one of my 5 missing boxes. He opened it and dug through my paperwork to find out whose box this was. It’s my personal business documents. Thank god! I met him to pick up my belongings. He told me his story and its worst. He was charged $4k extra on top of the estimate he was provided, and it took 5-additional months to receive his belongings. I now started investigating Acclaimed Movers and have found numerous similar complaints. This company is under investigation. I am adding my name to the many complaints now to ensure others don’t fall for the same scam I fell into. I’ve also contacted the actual Island Movers to inform them of the branding trick. I hope this review helps others seriously avoid this company.

  2. HIGHLY Recommend NOT using Acclaimed Movers & Storage - MISSING ITEMS.

Acclaimed Movers & Storage is a very poorly run business!!
ENDED UP PAYING 120% MORE THAN ORIGINAL QUOTE & THEY LOST 1/4 OF OUR STUFF, AND WE HAD TO PAY IN FULL before the other 3/4 stuff was removed off the truck. TOTALLY GOT SCREWED!! Originally I called for an estimate over the phone. Breeana said a 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 3 car garage would estimate at about 1264 Cubic Feet which was only $4436.00. That sounds to be to be true!! So I provided her with a detailed list of our household items and pictures of the items. Plus a count of the boxes I had packed myself. For example, 36 extra large Home Depot boxes, 14 Large HD boxes, 25 small HD boxes, 16 grey tubs (from Walmart)
Granted I understand it might vary 10%-20% once the movers got our items on the truck but they didn't tell us it went from 1264 to 3000+cf until they had our stuff over half way loaded on the truck. So our costs went from $4436 to $10,323.00!! AND we are now missing 1/4 of our items!!
PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS MOVING COMPANY!!

  3. Worst Company Ever.

This was the worst experience of my life. My initial move ended up costing my twice as much as they quoted me. The movers packed everything in blankets and tape, I still am trying to peal tape off offering thing. They put my things in there storage until I was ready to move out of state. I paid an extremely high amount for three months. I requested a copy of my inventory for four months and still never received it. I could not ever get anyone to answer the phone. When I had a moving date I called to arrange for delivery. They quoted me a price and told me it wouldn't be a problem getting my furniture when I wanted it, not the case. After they took my deposit I could not get ahold of anyone, no one explained how this process would work. They didn't ask about the place I was moving into if they would be able to get the truck in. They told me it was going to be a 55ft truck it ended up being a 75ft truck that would not fit in my complex. I was never given a contract. I tried for weeks calling and couldn't get any answers on delivery or making a payment.
The movers showed up the day after 4th of July and did not have a contract but wanted me to pay cash for the remaining balance of $3800 I wanted to pay with my credit card and they wanted to charge me an extra 3.5%
I ended up getting a bank check for $2200 and they made me go get cash. And here is the topper they made me rent two 26 ft trucks to unload my furniture into. Pay an additional $100 and then not unload it into my home. They wanted another $1000 to do that. I am a 54 year old single woman that runs her own business. I had no help to do this. I was in tears! I had to close my business to deal with this.
The truck was packed so poorly, everything was smashed and ruined. The movers were so unprofessional they basically unwrapped all the blankets covering my new furniture and through it in the other truck. They made me cross off seven pages of inventory. I found a guy friend to help and they basically had us working for eight hours in the hot sun. The truck was packed so poorly the move from another customer was falling on top of ours. The movers were in flip flops and I really think had no intention to mover the furniture in my home and set it up like they where paid for. This is a fraud company and a highly recommend not using them.

  4. Horrible customer service.

Had my belongings picked up on 12/21/16 was told delivery of the items would be around the 12/28/16 time frame. My paperwork even shows 12/28/16 expected delivery date. It is now 1/13/17 and my belongings are still at the Hollywood warehouse. Customer service doesn't answer their calls or return messages. You have to bug the booking/ quote line until they finally get tired of you and grab a customer service employee for you. Just an overall Miserable experience.

  5. Move to New York made easy by these guys!

I had to shift to NY with a very short term's notice, hence most of the movers I talked to did not manage to satisfy my requirements. The staff at Acclaimed Movers was friendly and they squeezed me into their schedule. They arrived exactly at the time they specified and the total cost did not exceed the quote they gave me.
All in all an amazing experience and I would recommend using them!

  6. We moved to chicago.

We moved to Chicago and were very happy with the service. Mike and Jose ready took care of us. I would like to say that the time of delievery in December was a little longer than was expecting but this was because of the snow storm. I will call you again if I decide to move back. Took around 3 hours to load the vehicle and 9 days to deliver to Illinois.

  7. Do Not Use This Company.

I have never written one of these before.. but here goes.

In June 2015, I needed to pack and ship my late mother's furniture and family heirlooms from an LA storage facility to my sister in France. These things meant a lot to us. The storage facility gave me a card from Acclaimed Movers.. I guess someone had given it to them from a previous move.

I called and spoke to a British chap (Jamie) who had his "nice and supportive" act down. I thought wow, maybe this won't be such a nightmare after all! The estimate he gave me was less than another company I had previously checked out. They seemed experienced.. and Jamie said he was from London which is where I live. So I went with Acclaimed.

It all started out well, BUT.. it certainly didn't end that way unfortunately. :( All in all A TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE !

All I wanted to know from my rep at Acclaimed was the truth.. How much this move from LA to France was going to cost, so I could plan my life and find the $ to pay for it. I know you get what you pay for, so I didn't expect good service to be cheap. I just didn't want any surprises.

But looking back I could see that at every turn I was told what the owner thought I wanted to hear.. not the reality of the situation which is what I needed to know.

When it was all said and done, it cost me triple what they had said it would, as I had to pay even more fees to company on the east coast who was handling getting it to France.

To start with, I paid Acclaimed a deposit, and then a month & 1/2 later, without telling me or sending me an itemised bill to check over, they charged my credit card again.. the amount was almost 9 grand in total. I was absolutely shocked.. as I had no idea they had done this.. and had no itemised receipt (and still don't). Is this legal?
(Warning: If they send you a credit card authorisation form to sign, don't sign it!)

What I also didn't get from them was "a professional inventory" listed below. I still don't know how many boxes there are. ..Not the best situation, as I need that info for French Customs.

Acclaimed also emailed me an estimate which listed "door to door'" pick up at port in France as one of its services:

    It said: Understanding Your Estimate

    Door to Door Service:
    The following services are included:
    AT ORIGIN:
Arriving at the pick up location, preparing a professional inventory list. Standard disassembling.. ect

    AT DESTINATION:
Assistance with completion of import forms if required, normal customs clearance.
Collection from Port Terminal/ De-consolidation facility and transportation to delivery address.
Delivery to normal ground and first floor property with suitable access for an 18m vehicle to park within 25 miles.
Unpacking the furniture. Cartons to be placed in rooms that you desire. Positioning of furniture as required Set up of basic furniture to allow client to sleep in house on first evening of delivery.
Removal of all waste materials (at time of delivery only) Return of empty container to port terminal and delivery to destination address.

This was what I was expecting to happen for my $$

BUT after the container was loaded and picked up, I was put in touch with the east coast shipping guy who also charged me for the pick up at Port and delivery to house in France.
So I have paid for the same thing twice!

The one good thing is that the 2 guys who came to box and wrap my furniture (Joshua) were very good and took great care in packing and loading all my things.. I feel that if I can afford to pay all the fees to actually get my mum's furniture to France, it will be in one piece. They did a professional job thankfully.

BUT, Ive already paid $15K between these 2 companies and the shipment hasn't even left the port yet. (No Im not kidding!)

And all that unnecessary stress due to lack of information on charges.. Took years off of my life! For an international move, a person needs to know what is going to happen, how long its going to take and how much its going to cost. No one wants to find out that they have to get a bank loan so they can afford to finish the job. And this long AFTER Acclaimed has taken your stuff!

So when its all said and done and Acclaimed have taken your money, and you get really upset.. Jamie hands you over to Jen at Customer Service. She is very polite and says she understands why your so upset.. but all the email exchanges go nowhere and just waste your time. Acclaimed just counts on the fact that one day you will stop calling.

So what I did in the end was to open a 'dispute' with Visa, as I don't think its legal to charge someone's credit card without first sending them a real estimate and invoice first. And as far as that first invoice I received.. re the door to door service included - They said is was a "mistake on their system". Yeah, right!

As Clint Eastwood once said "Don't p*ss on my back and tell me its raining".

  8. Stress free and timely move.

Losing the job and having to move is so tough but Acclaimed movers & storage was there with me and really I couldn't have done it without them. Allen and the customer service people including Tina were so kind to me and always called me back when I left them voice mails. Thankfully I had the money to move and I got a terrific job offer here in Portland, OR and now I am all settled in and it’s all because of them!
