They sound great when selling the job.. they get you on the back end.
I was quoted the move with the help of the affordable relocation salesman Anthony Lewis. Anthony walked me through what I had in my house as far as inventory. Based on Anthony's help I listed everything as best I could. he gave me a reasonable quote. when the job was picked up and packed, the bill was over $3000 more than listed. I understand this was just a quote and it was given sight unseen.. however, affordable relocation has done enough moves to be able to quote more accurately. I was hit with a 50% increase after the truck was loaded. The movers that were onsite actually told me that they feel bad, but they know the quotes are lower than they should be in order to get the job sold.
Part 2 of the problem with affordable relocation was that I was guaranteed by the salesman Anthony that my house packed in NY on the 11th would be delivered to my new house in Tampa florida on the 15th. He repeatedly told me this was no problem. On the 12th, the next day after the pickup in NY, a dispatcher representing affordable relocation, called me confirming thursday the 15th delivery. They said they would call again in 24 hours to confirm delivery time. today on the 14th, I called to confirm and was told, we are not being delivered until the 20th because we weren't a full truck and they had to repack the truck.
i called my salesman to find out what was going on.. repeatedly called.. no answer.
I called customer support.. repeatedly.. no answer
i finally called their sales number and of course got an answer. I was tranferred to the manager who gave a non caring, "it is what it is" attitude, and when I expressed I would not refer their services to anyone unless this was resolved and I was going to submit reviews.. he hung up on me.
I now have to pay for temporary housing an additional week. transport my kids back and forth to the new school they start on the 15th which is 30 miles away from the temporary housing we are staying.
I did see some negative reviews when I researched affordable relocation, but allowed myself to be "sold" in confidence of the company. I highly suggest if you read the reviews about this company that you consider that they are accurate. and the reviews are not great. I am not sure who I am upset with more.. affordable relocation.. or myself for getting suckered into using their service against my better judgement and thinking I would save a few dollars. in the end, I will have spent more than any of the other quotes I received from other moving companies.

My mother needed to move from SC to WI and needed to get out of there fast because she was in an abusive relationship. This is what I told Jessica when booking with her. Jessica was one of the movers that called and left message on my phone when I was actively looking for movers. I told her the inventory and she told me we only had about 365cf and they had to charge a minimum of 575cf so I would technically be getting ripped off. She seemed very trustworthy and when I showed her other quotes from movers she put them down immediately and said they were not trustworthy. I was very leery and kept telling her this and kept telling her that this was not a typical move and that it was very serious and she said she completely understood and that she had been in a similar relationship. She assured me that they would take great care of us and put in our file what the situation was so everyone knew about it. I kept asking her for reviews because the reviews I kept finding were pretty horrible and she gave me links. One for businessrater and one for yelloewpages and those reviews were a lot better than what I had found on my own. You can barely find anything on the company when doing a web search. She also told me that the company had an A+ with the BBB which turned out to be a complete lie. She gave me a link that showed an A+ somehow but I later learned (after booking) that they have no rating at all.
I told Jessica that my mom lived in a trailer and it was kind of hard to get to so I took a screen shot of google maps and drew a line on it where to go, sent it to her and she said she gave it to the drivers and they knew everything that was going on. I had also asked her about pick up times and she said the movers would give me a choice between a 8-10am time or a 12-2pm time and would be there 15 minutes prior to whatever one I chose. She made it sound like they were very prompt. I had also added one item and for some reason she bumped up our cf from 575cf to 585cf. If we were around 365 then why would she need to add to that?
So I had booked with her after going back and forth with her through phone calls and emails. She gave me her direct line and direct email and I had no issues contacting her..until after I booked. I booked in July 2016 for a move date of August 24, 2016 and when that started to approach I tried to contact her again just to touch base with her. I emailed her (jj@affordablerelocation.net) and she did not email me back like she use to and I called her but her direct number no longer worked. It would either ring continuously, have a busy tone or tell me "You are not authorized to contact this number". That number was:(732)375-9220. I was persistent and one of the times the phone would keep ringing, a female actually picked up. I asked if Jessica was there and she said she wasn't but wanted to know if she could help me with anything so I told her I just wanted to touch base about our move on the 24th. She told me that we were scheduled for an August 23rd move and the 24th was the back up day. I told her we needed the 24th, there was no wiggle room and she told me they needed a backup day. (Jessica never mentioned a backup day when booking). I then asked her if she knew about our situation and she said no. She put me on hold and then John came on the phone with me. I explained the situation to him about the abusive relationship my mother was in and he said, "ok, because of the circumstances we can definitely make it work for you guys". I asked him if we were suppose to get a call from the movers and he said that dispatch would call the day before (23rd) between 2-6pm to talk to me.
August 23rd rolls around and I called John again to ask him if there was a number I could call if the dispatch didn't call us by 6pm that day. He gave me a direct number. When 5:45pm came around I decided to call that number because I didn't hear anything from dispatch and the number went to a voicemail for a Robert which was completely full so I couldn't even leave a message. I continued to call it, even after 6pm. I also tried calling the company's main number and no one answered. I left a message with the main company line and also emailed John directly (john@affordablerelocation.net) letting them know I didn't receive a call from dispatch and that we were in a really critical situation and needed to get out of there. In the end no one returned my call or email.
Finally dispatch [(201) 345-7799] called about 8pm and told me they were sorry but couldn't find a truck to get out there on the 24th so it would have to be the 25th for the move. Shocked and irritated I asked him if the company told him about the situation and of course he said he had no idea. I told him everything and said the day HAD to be the 24th and that I also told John this. He put me on hold and when he came back he said they have a truck and the movers could be there on the 24th between 8-12pm.
Later that night I got a call about 10pm from the driver, Luiz Bento. He told me he would be there between 8-10am and would call 30 minutes prior to arriving. I called him at 9:30am because I didn't hear anything from him and he said he would be there between 11:45 and 12pm and would call when he is about 20-25 minutes away. I called him at 11:45am because I didn't hear anything and he said he was about 15 minutes away. Along with dispatch, I gave Luiz specific directions to get back there and told him not to drive to the dead end. It was a very narrow road and they had a 26 ft truck. They ended up blowing past our driveway and went to the dead end where they tried to turn around and ended up in the ditch. They tried getting themselves out for about 15 minutes and then finally a tow company was called which took about 40 minutes to get out there. While they were waiting for the tow, my mothers friend picked the movers up in his car and drove them back to the trailer so they could look at what they needed to pack and he said the movers smelled like alcohol.
The truck was just about packed up around 2pm. Luiz knew the situation and that we needed to get out of there as soon as possible so he called me over to sign the inventory list he made. I signed it quickly and got out of there. He told me he would email me a receipt with the information.
We later got a text from Luiz and our balance should have been $210.76 but he was saying it was $910. 31. When I disagreed with him, he told me we went over our cubic feet. We looked at our inventory list and he had added items on it. Luiz said he had sent me the email and I told him I didn't receive it and he said it takes a few hours to process. We finally got an email saying that we had 797cf. Remember Jessica told us we had about 365cf but had to pay the minimum which she put as 585cf on our bill. On the sheet they said we went over about 212cf which would bring us to $700 extra in charges. The email they sent me had an attachment stating this and I had not seen a form like that yet my name was signed on it. They had also checked off that we had a motorcycle and we did not. The email (customermovingcenter@gmail.com) we got with this form saying we went over 212cf came from an Esther Pain from dispatch. I emailed back asking why my name was signed on that form when I never saw anything like that and I also mentioned all the extra items that were added to the inventory and she did not reply even though I asked her to acknowledge the email.
I had called the company and spoke with John again and told him everything that we went through with the move and he said he had never heard of such accusations and that I should tell dispatch because they are the ones that deal with the bill stuff too. I also asked him why our situation was not passed along to everyone like we were told it was and all he said was he was sorry and didn't know where the ball was dropped. Before I could get a hold of John, someone told me he had just walked out for lunch and that was at 12:30pm and he would be back at 1pm and would return my call. I called back at 1:05pm and asked for John and this person said he just saw John walk out for lunch and that he would be back in about 20 minutes. I think I can say that John was trying to avoid my calls.
We called Esther and she said we would have to take a thorough inventory when the movers drop off and they should call 24 hours before delivery. They ended up calling the day of delivery a few hours before and asked if they could deliver at 4pm. We said yes and 4pm comes around, we call them and they said it would be 6pm..they finally delivered at 6:30pm They would not open the truck and unload our stuff unless we had the full payment of the $910.31. Esther told us we would get a refund if we were right. We measured our items and it came out to be 500cf..not 797cf. So they went over 297cf.
We took pictures and video of us measuring our things and sent it to Esther and asked her when we could get our refund. She didn't reply back. We waited a few days and my mom sent Esther an email saying she would be contacting the BBB if they did not get back to us about the refund we were owed and they contacted her the same day and refunded it. They didn't even acknowledge anything else such as the truck in the ditch or the smell of alcohol on the movers and all the other trouble we went through.
During this whole process, my mom called the company to get a fake quote (to compare to my initial quote) and when John answered he asked her how she got that number. That's not suspicious at all. Plus we added more items to this quote that she got and it was cheaper..
So overall, this company will sell you on their honesty and tell you they are a family owned business and they are either related to one another or went to school with one another. For all of the bad reviews I have read, a lot of them are like our situation. The company quotes them and then they end up adding cubic feet and charge the customer more. They probably don't think the customer is going to go after them for it because they aren't going to have any proof that it's not the cubic feet they say it is.
After receiving her items, some of the furniture was damaged a little bit. When we looked in the truck, they had everything jammed together as tight as possible so they probably just rammed everything in there as hard as they could.
DO NOT BOOK THIS COMPANY!! THEY ARE A HUGE SCAM AND THEY ARE OUT FOR YOUR MONEY.

Don't believe what they tell you!
I was quoted around $2800 by salesmen, John in May. When they came to pack me up on June 3 for move from Pittsburgh to South Carolina I was charged Total of $5200 for "additional costs"! I was also told by John whatever the packers took apart would be put back together. Wrong! I had to put bed frames together as well as reattach mirror to dresser and they didn't even pack the hardware. I had to go out and purchase new hardware. Also they dismantled my grandmother clock and I didn't know until I unpacked it (myself, of course). Now I have to find someone to put it back together for $350!!
Lie after Lie and the price doubled.
My sales person was Mark, he sold me on his honesty and constant attention to my need. his pitch was that they 17 truck all there own employees.
The people that picked up has never meet AR and do nt work for them. First Lie.
The people that delivered were also not employees of AR.
2nd lie.
Mark gave me a price of $2147 with 571cf, the people that picked up after wrapping and loading truck said the the cost would be $3741 with 951 cf. The driver of the pick truck said I would have take it up with despatcher.
Esatar was the despatchers name, he keep telling me he would get back to me. He also said that the furniture would not be delivered till June 1st and I was promised by Mark delivery would be may 24. I had to change my travel time back to NY by( Auto Train) at my expense.I get a call on the may 24 that night telling me they would be delivering furniture at 9am the next morning and do you have the $3741 cash only.I did not have a choice pay or you get no furniture so I did.
I called Mark he said he would get back to me with explanation of price increase that was 2 weeks ago. have called and left messages with on reply.

I first want to say I am blown away by the Epecable service from everyone at Affordable Relocation!! My husband and I were getting quotes from many different moving companies and the prices were outrages. Most of them were brokers and the others were way over priced. Then I had received a quote from David who's a representative for Affordable Relocation. He took his time doing my inventory and was very curtious to all my needs. I have lots of sentimental and expensive belongings and he made sure all of them were on my list accordingly. He was thoughtful and on point with each item I have. He mentioned what would happen with our move and was very professional. David also did a great job keeping my husband and I informed on what's going on at all times considering my husband and I having so much on our plate. Not to mention all the stress that comes along with moving. Dispatch was also very polite and did and exceptional job keeping me informed throughout the move. When the movers came out they were very polite and made sure all of my items were put on the truck correctly and they took their time handeling all of my sentimental belongings as well. The price I got was spot on and the move took exactly what was expected from Nj to Fl. Affordable Relocation has outstanding customer service and over exceeded my expectations 100%!!My husband and I would recommend them to everyone moving and are very happy!!
Poor Customer Service and Support.
We had David as our salesperson who promised a lot and did not deliver (no pun intended) on those promises..more importantly when you attempt to call him, he will not answer his phone. When you try to e-mail him, he will not write you back. When you try to text him, he will respond with a brief answer like customer service is calling you back. No one ever calls you back. You have to be lucky enough to get someone on the line to help you out in which they are given canned answers. In 1 exchange I was told that the manager and half owner's name was David (another David different than the sales person). When I called back to speak with David the owner, I was told there was no person by that name who is a manager - only the sales person.
Several times when I called to get answers, I was expected to make calls to employees myself, like dispatch, or the warehouse and even the truck driver - unbelievable!!

After reading some of the reviews about this company. These people must of have had some other people come to there house. My move was fantastic. I spoke with David over the phone he told me not to worry about a thing. He told me this will be a breeze in the park and it was. The movers did a phenomenal job, I was right there watching everything. Very polite, answered any question I had, they took there time while loading, just like they were moving there own stuff. Was very careful with my crystal and glass ware. I also had a very expensive collection of statues, and they were all perfectly packed when I received them. I would Highly recommend this company to any one.
Wonderful Experience.
I have moved probably 10 times in my life, and had one bad experience after another. Until I was moved by Affordable. I had the pleasure of being helped by David. He was very helpful in answering all my questions and organizing everything to a fault, So that it truly was stress free. Dispatch was great in keeping me informed about our delivery, which was on time and received with no damage. The moving men were outstanding, polite and they took there time with all our household items. I would highly recommend this company to anyone.. and I did, Our daughter is also moving and they gave us a referral fee for doing so. A wonderful experience all around. Great company!!
I spoke to David and he was a really nice guy. He ended up giving me a great advice which is to sell my furniture and ship my clothes by ups because it will be cheaper. I spoke to some brokers companies before david and all of them are cheap but they are not even in service according to US DOT. Check this company out on US DOT.gov.. They are legit . Even though I didn't book my move with David he even help me find an auto transportation company that I am going to use to ship my car. These are the kind hearted people that you want to deal with instead of the pushy brokers that only want your credit card numbers! If I could give more than 5 stars I would have.
Estimate WAY Off & Timing te.
Really not happy. The movers came and they were thorough and very courteous, but this whole estimate thing feels like a scam.
I don't know if I was purposefully misled, or what, but a move that you quoted me on costing all-in 1873.66, is now going to cost me almost $3000. On the phone they said I had room for at least 20 more boxes and would still be under the minimum for the quoted price.
We ended up at 900 cu ft.
I don't know what type of operation the sales team is running, but is crazy to me that this is costing so much more than the estimate.
On top of all that, the company was a day late! I had to take 2 days off from work instead of 1!
This isn't the way I do business, and it bothers me that some companies still do.
I said the first date I could receive boxes was 1/15 and they told me that was good. Then called on 1/12 and told me I had to receive the boxes the next morning or they would leave them in a storage facility.
Dispatch cleared it up and 5 days later some very angry movers delivered my things.
All my complaints and requests went ignored.
Still Haven't Received Our Items.
It's been over a month and we still haven't received our household goods. When we try to call dispatch, we get screamed at literally and told they don't know when our stuff will be there. We have been living in an empty house and no one will help us. We have to call from a different number every time we try to get an update because they won't answer our calls anymore. This is THE WORST customer service I have EVER experienced. I hope other's don't get roped into this scam. I don't believe we will ever received our stuff. We already paid $2300 + the cost of our furniture or we'd tell them to forget it!
Affordable Relocation.
The movers, Affordable Relocation, was a completely poor experience. The two main complaints were I was told at the time of the sales call by the sales rep many erroneous claims; and trying to talk to a person at their offices was a nightmare.
The sales rep told me that my things would only have a one-time load on the truck and not be taken off until they arrived at the destination point-wrong! The people loading the truck were also the people driving and unloading the truck-wrong! The delivery would between Jan 4-6-wrong! Not even close, it was Jan 19th. And finally I was told by someone in the office when the time would be to load up the truck 4 days prior to loading, that it would be between 8:00-noon-wrong! The afternoon before move they called to say it would be between noon-2. So I had to completely change job appointments to accommodate the time change.
No one ever called me except to change the load time and the driver to confirm the unload time. I was left in the dark when the delivery was expected to take place. Whenever I called I never talked to a person so had to leave a message and I was never called back. Communicating with this company is a nightmare!
Avoid this company at all costs.
After telling the rep David several times I was not interested in his services, because he refused to give me an accurate quote in writing, I received the following response "When you get ripped of by your text moving company ..I warned you im sorry you didn't go to collage." This company has zero professionalism. I have no idea why this company would discriminate against a person without a college education. Regarless, I have one from a reputable university, of which I made sure to inform David. Please stay away from this company in order to avoid harassment and discrimination. It's worth the extra money to deal with a professional company with good reviews.
Great Services.
There are moving companies growing in numbers like mushrooms. But most of them are just inefficient and just out there to rip off the customers. Affordable Relocation is very different. They really showed a lot of care while moving my stuffs. They showed up on time and packed up everything in a jiffy. I didn’t even have to lift a finger. The whole moving-loading process took a very short time and then they set off. The truck pulled up at my new house right on schedule and all my valuables were safe. That is an achievement most moving companies can’t even dream of. Thank You again Frank and your company.
Lost or Stolen Boxes.
We contacted this company to move our personal items from our cabin in Maine, after selling it, to our home in Mississippi. In the process, 5 boxes were LOST OR STOLEN. Four of the boxes I packed myself, and the other, I assisted the packer in packing the box, so I know what items we did not receive. The conservative estimate of the value of the items LOST OR STOLEN was approximately $1100. When we booked their services, we were told that they were bonded and insured. When we contacted them about our LOST OR STOLEN boxes, we were told their insurance would not cover the loss. We were told that they could only refund $200 off what we had pain in full. I would definitely not recommend this company!
