AMERICAN MOVERS: Run, don't walk from this scam.

My elder sister in Apple Valley, CA received a written quote from a real nice gal named Sam to relocate back to Spokane, WA. Day of move arrived, the driver showed up and told her if she wanted to move, she would have to come up with over 1,0000 more and on delivery have 1800.00 cash or postal money order for delivery of the items. She was alone, on oxygen and had trusted this company, but thank GOD she had a charge card to put the money demanded, or he stated he would drive away. My sister lives on disability and was being evicted, as her boyfriend had died and his family wanted her out, so she could not cancel, and she had already paid a 600.00 deposit. We were not aware here in WA state how ill my sister was or how she was being taken advantage. She wanted to handle it on her own. She had told us that she had checked the reviews. Well, she checked either My American Movers, or some other movers, because if she had, she would have seen the reviews. The reviews all read the same. More money up front on the day of pick up, state they don't use contractors (but they must), and the delivery not being delivered when stated. BBB gave them a "F" rating. Never seen that rating before. Read a review on YELP that was just written the week before from a young gent, and he was swindled as well. I was in a panic. And as followed as others had experienced, no delivery on the 19th of Sept, as written on the manifest. It states the estimated first day of delivery. My sister said that he told her it could be a day or two off. Well, here we sit, Sept 24, no word from driver. Have made numerous calls to numbers listed on the manifest. I got a nasty gal who made a statement "Your sister should have read the contract, like she read the review and she would have read we have up to 30 days". I stated that the driver knew she had her oxygen concentrator she used at night. It was a big fuss, because the driver thought it was an oxygen tank. She told him she needed it, but figured she would be OK at night until the 19th, and that was the 9th, the day of pickup. She had also put her extra medications on the truck. Not a good choice, but again, she was flying and just took enough to get her to the 22nd of Sept. I was able to read the contract, after the fact, and on the back side of the manifest, in small writing it says that you have to pay extra to get a guaranteed date of delivery and the company has up to 30 days to deliver, but most times it is within 21 days! Really, small and not easily read, and not explained to the person who has their belongings on the van. SHADY!. I felt this whole ordeal was boarding on elder abuse, among a laundry list of travesties. On the recorded message,while you wait, the person states that the company does not use contractors, they provide military moves, but I have made 5 military moves, before retiring and we always were given a date and never treated like this. I am going to find out who I report this conduct to, as they may be falsely advertising and the military needs to be aware of the misleading business traits. I am beyond pissed. I am very scared to get her items at delivery, as the 1800.00 could increase and more demands could be made. Just be aware and go with a reliable company that is well known. These shady characters are the scum of the earth and should be called out and held accountable. I will put my review out there to as many posts as I can. BEWARE and RUN!!
