Nightmare!
I had submitted a request for moving quotes on the web. I was contacted by Thomas from American Spirit Moving. He talked me out of using Priceline by telling me to look at the D.O.T. FMCSA website to review complaints. Sure enough Priceline had some complaints so I looked up American Spirit and they had no complaints. It turns out that they weren't actually my movers, they only brokered the deal (which I was not informed of).
The process included me giving them an estimate over the phone of how many boxes and items I had so they could estimate how much square footage my stuff took up in a truck. This turns out to be red flag #1. All legitimate moving companies should come look at your home and give you a real estimate.
They gave me an estimate of around $4500. I accepted and booked them to show up on 5/6/21. I should have recognized red flag #2 when the dispatcher was not very knowledgeable. When I called the dispatcher back to check on things they didn't even answer the phone like a business.
The truck shows up which is not American Spirit, but Best Moving Van Lines and the driver had nothing filled out. I had to put all of the information together. (When I later looked up Best Moving Van Lines on the D.OT. FMCSA site, they had plenty of complaints). They load up the truck and then advise me that we exceeded the estimate and it was going to be close to $7900 instead. I was like 'WTF'. Not only should the driver have told me way before he was done that the cost was so much more, but then I was stuck because I had to be out of the house the next morning. My only recourse would have been to deny it and tell them to unload the damn truck and I'll find someone else.. but how realistic is that at the last moment.
So the delivery date was supposed to be 2 days later (a 500 mile move). So 5/8 comes and goes and I call them the following Wednesday only to be told 'you'll be notified a day before they deliver' and by the way, you need to pay cash when they show up before they unload.
I finally got a call on morning of 5/19 advising they were on the way and wanted to show up that afternoon. I, of course, agreed and went and got the money at the bank.
Every box labeled 'Fragile' was crushed and damaged. The movers who showed up to unload were nice enough and did a decent job of unloading, but they left me with all of the plastic and packing tape but it was nice to finally get my stuff.
So, maybe American Spirit is good when they actually do the moving, but if they are just brokering your deal, then watch out.

It was easy to book, nice and cheap and the driver was superb. Cannot fault them. The move was completed without any problems thanks to Gilbert excellent and professional service.

American Spirit Moving was super-efficient, affordable, and I highly recommend it. They did all the job so excellent. They are much better than the other movers. Great Services
I would thoroughly recommend this professional and competent service to anyone, however complicated and difficult. These guys really pulled out all the stops and were creative and intelligent with it. They also have excellent communications and a back-office system to back them up. If I ever need help with moving anything anywhere without any issue, I would go to them. Keep it up. Two thumbs up!

They provided an excellent experience for us. Anthony and his team run a good business, doing the right things right. They came on time and did A-class job wrapping up all the furniture so that it didn't get damaged. Everything went just as planned. My experience with Stanley was the best ever rather than other movers. I highly recommend it!

The driver was very helpful and a really nice guy. The company did have a problem with the original driver not being able to attend due to becoming ill, but the lady solved this problem, and everything went ahead as planned excellent service from company and Jack the driver gratitude and thanks to Jansen. I shall use them again and again and tell my friends how good they were. Highly recommended

Smooth Move
All three of the movers were friendly and worked quickly to ensure that the move was made within the prescribed timeframe. The price is also very reasonable, and we felt we got what we paid for. I also love how responsive management is and how quickly we were able to set up the move. Our only regret in making this move with this company is that we have moved out of the area and won't get to use them for our next move.
