  1. All Around Good Service.

I'm a teacher and I applied for a transfer in South Carolina to be closer to my family. I hadn't moved in so long and I've never used a professional moving company so I started asking neighbors, co-workers, and friends if they knew of any good companies. I got a few names and decided to also check online sources as well. Of the names I got, America's Moving Services seemed to be the best company to go with. I called and got a quote over the phone with Marquis who was so nice and friendly. Wasn't pushy at all, in fact, he walked me through checking the Better Business Bureau and a great site www.protectyourmove.gov. This site literally allows you to research any moving company to see if they are in fact licensed & registered with USDOT, their current insurance status, and how many DOT complaints have been filed against them each year. Pretty honest of him to show me that. On top of that, I received quotes from a couple of other companies just to shop around and each quote I showed Marquis, they offered to match that offer or give me a better one. Which they absolutely did! The moving and packing price was well within my budget and the estimate was explained to me in great detail. The moving men they sent to my house were super nice and listened to every little thing I asked of them. They worked very hard, but never complained the entire time. Best of all, the price actually went down because I ended up having more time to pack than I thought so they did not have to pack as much for me. This was a great experience for me and took so much stress of my shoulders I could just focus on visiting my family and setting up my new home close by. Thanks so much for everything, awesome job!

  2. Best Move By Far!

Thank you America's Moving Services! The move went extraordinarily smoothly and that was due to the outstanding effort and professionalism of Ian and his son Ty. They worked hard non-stop despite the heat and humidity and politely declined our insistence that they take a break. They were courteous, flexible, and most importantly they took extreme care with our belongings. I've moved a dozen times over the last 10 years due to a career with the Navy and Ian and Ty the best movers I have ever dealt with by a wide margin. I will gladly recommend their services.

  3. Horrible company to work with.

We went with this company based on decent reviews on a google search, as well as the friendly customer service that we received when we called for a quote.  That's where the positives end. We dealt with Marquis for the pick-up and contract portion of the transaction.

This was our first long-distance move and we stupidly trusted him to help with the arrangements.  He got an estimate of our belongings over the phone, but the problem was that this was long before we had ever started packing.  I later found out that a GOOD moving company will send a representative to your house (or do a video tour) to help estimate the weight/cubic footage of your items.  Marquis underestimated our belongings by 75% despite me walking through the house with him on the phone. I realized 4 days prior to the movers arriving how low he estimated, and asked him to recalculate based on the exact cubic footage of our items (I actually went around and calculated it).  He said don't worry about it, it would be fine.  The movers (a third party) showed up with a truck that was too small because they still had the initial estimate, Marquis never passed on the updated estimate to them.

Because of this underestimation, the moving company would not deliver our items to our new home until it was in their best interest to do so (basically when they had more business in our area).  Because of this we didn't get our items for 39 days.  We slept on an air mattress for over 3 weeks, and sat in an empty house on camping stools.

America's moving services would not take any of the blame and though they stated they were helping to negotiate delivery, that was untrue.  Ashleigh Alston merely called periodically to see what was happening, but did not offer any alternatives to get our items out of the hostage situation that we were in.  Ashleigh purred encouraging words to us daily, told us she'd help us out with our final bill, but then when it came down to the bill upon delivery Ashleigh was out of the picture and refused to speak with us.  In order to get our items out of the moving truck and into our house once and for all, we paid the entire bill and nobody will offer any sort of refund for the unrealistic delays and hardships that they have caused.

This is a horrible company to work with and I caution anyone to stay far far away from them.

  4. Move From Hell.

THIS WAS A MOVE FROM HELL..I hired AMSA to pack and move me from Alabama to Ca. They subcontracted to another company "ON TIME MOVING" . Lets see if I can relay the chain of events. They arrived late at night so they were told to come back next day, which they did at 11:00 (late start). Ok now they are in my house packing. (I am already in Ca so I have a dear friend overseeing this operation). Now they get a phone call stating they must leave and go to Kentucky to pick up another load (instead of finishing my move), from there they will go to Chicago and off load then reload onto another truck. What I found when my belongings arrived ( I never received a list of things that was shipped/packed). So while unpacking I found things just thrown into boxes (without padding) ( I took many many pictures to back up my claim). except for my tupperware that was packed very well. Several items/boxes lost, MANY items damaged. In my opinion it should be America's Moving Services that make this good, they say "NO WAY Services were rendered". This Company is just out for the almighty buck and to hell with everyone else..DO NOT USE OR RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY. I am so sorry I did.. OH! they offered to go get the rest of my things for a fee..WHAT A [EDIT] JOKE.. ps.. I also posted on their Face Book site..they deleted it. This picture is just 1 of many I have of this horrific move.

  5. BEWARE!! Awful Experience.

BEWARE!!  Do not use this company.  They contract with other companies and do not own trucks themselves.  We learned the hard way.  We moved from New Orleans to Myrtle Beach and 12 hours before our truck was to arrive, they called to say that the truck made a pick up in Houston before our scheduled pick up and was FULL, therefore could not pick up our stuff.  They made no effort to try scheduling a different truck.  Long story short, we were SOL and had to rent 2 Uhauls to move 14 hours away with a 2 year old.  The whole experience was a night mare.  DO NOT use this company.  You will be sorry..

  6. False Impressions.

CLAIM: $160 DAMAGE: $2,000----------------- When I first signed up with America's Moving it was because of the excellent user reviews and customer support was great over the phone. I am here writing after to share my COMPLETE dissatisfaction with the handling by America's Moving hired subcontractor "Storage Transit".   The movers came from Georgia and were 6 hours late. Our pickup was only one of several stops. Nothing dedicated about it.  Their truck was enormous and cut a power line going down the road. This crew was made of a father and his teenage sons. Hardly professionals to trust handling heavy valuable furniture with care.   Once everything was in the truck, he explained he would likely be the person driving to our destination. A couple days pass and we did not hear anything. We moved into our new apartment with nothing. After calling I expressed the problem and was told they had to make a few more stops. Apparently OTHER customers were complaining and received priority.. I guess we should have been more vocal?   Two days after the expected delivery date they came. A completely different crew came in a completely different truck. So they had to unload everything (2bedroom apt), then reload onto another truck.   CHAIRS BROKEN, ELECTRONICS BROKEN, TABLES and BED-FRAME SCRATCHED. Items that were packaged extremely carefully were strangely unpacked. Heirlooms, glass and stemware were shattered. Mirrors and boxes had clear and visible signs of misuse.  If service was not bad enough they then tried pushing random items onto us! "No this is not my lamp, but where is the mirror?" The mirror etc was never delivered.   How did such meticulous packing of boxes and items get so mistreated? Boxes kicked in, broken or open. Black smudges/deep scratches all over hard-wood furniture and a vintage table. ANTS!!, yes ANTS!!, covered and crawled over multiple boxes with no rhyme or reason.   The claims agent neglected serious consideration with our things. Repeatedly I requested for a report to be made on this incident. 3 times, on 3 forms I had to provide identical information.   Our insurance was $.30/lb regardless of value. Initially we reviewed the higher package.  This was $.60/lb regardless of value.   Words cannot redeem the amount of damage and frustration surrounding this experience. I hope this review can accurately reflect our experience and mark a warning for potential future movers.  .

  7. Never Again.

My husband and I used Americas Moving Service for a 1BR move from Boston to Pittsburgh in mid June of this year.  They had excellent reviews online from several sources.  Initially I was impressed with their professionalism and was very happy that although they were more expensive that some other companies, their ratings were worth it because I really wanted to have a hassle free move so I was ok paying the price.  This unfortunately was a miscalculation on my part. As most big companies, they contract out to other companies. My contract went to Old BayMeadows Moving & Storage.  Then everything went very wrong.  The driver seemed unsure if he could make it to Boston with a 18 wheeler truck and asked us for directions and asked us to tell him whether he could make it with his truck.  I actually had brought up that issue to the main company before, that Boston was not so good for 18 wheelers and they had assured me that they were 99.9% sure I would get a straight truck because they “almost never” send an 18 wheeler to NY and Boston.  Well the driver of the 18 wheeler hadn’t heard that.  To make a long story short, the dispatcher for the contractor company was very hard to reach, never answered his phone.  They came a day late for pick up and never called me.  The main company did however. They also forgot to tell me that delivery was going to be late. I found out because as everything else had gone wrong, I called the driver to check the day before and he told me.  So I spent a lot of time with Howard, the owner apparently of Americas Moving Storage who, in his own right, did spend a lot of time on the phone with me, but kept assuring me that everything would be fine. But he had to intervene constantly to get things moving.  The delivery was a hassle as well.  The driver got stuck again somewhere and called for us to help him??  He came alone and didn’t have help there. Then he “hired” some help near our house which ended in an argument in front of our house in front of our landlady.  I was horrified.  I just wanted to get our stuff out of that truck. Ultimately everything did come in great condition and the driver and helpers were all very pleasant and hardworking in the end.  However from the management of AMS as well as Old Bay Meadow’s company, I am extremely disappointed and even ended up paying more because of an underestimation of weight. I didn’t argue because I was so tired but I never got a weight ticket from the truck weigh station and don’t believe them quite honestly.  To pay that much, it was a hassle and stressful from day one.  I could have easily gone with a cheaper company and still had the hassle. I really wanted this to go well because I am moving again in a year and wanted to use the same company but I am not and I strongly do NOT recommend this company.  I have also notified the BBB with whom they are rated. Be careful with AMS. .

  8. Your Quote will not be what you End with.

This was my experience others may differ but please read it may be helpful.  I have moved long distances in the past but I was always the grunt and the driver.  This was my first experience with a moving company.   I went for about a week (not enough time as you may think) trying to find the right moving company to move my family from PA to Utah.  This was what I would like to refer to as a "shotgun move".  I had 2 weeks to coordinate finding a house and getting my belongings packed and ready to be move.  My family and I were making the drive ourselves to cut costs a little more. I did my research on every company that sent a quote or called and also Checked there statements "We're backed by the Better Business Bureau"  LOL.  NOT.  I would say more than 3/4 for the companies that estimated me a quote were not as they said they were.  Do your research when getting an estimate from a company.  I Finally decided On Americas Moving Services because Branton Rhett assured me that all was well and I could trust him. All we discussed was true because I researched what he said about his company.  Now for the down side.  The Quote you get is not what you are going to end up with.  Well unless you know exactly how much your belongings weigh or the exact cubic footage then maybe the quote will be accurate.  Mine doubled. Also be prepared to wait a few weeks for your belongings.  They may show up early mine did but I continued to call to see where my stuff was.  Yes Americas Moving Services may be a good "Broker"  because they have great communications skills.  That's all I believe they are because I never saw one Shirt on the movers that showed up having the "AMS"  logo nor did the truck that delivered.   I will the admit the gentleman that showed up for my pick-up were nice, packed very well.  I have drawn this out enough so to the major point.  I did not have AMS actually pick up or drop off, so I believe that somebody bid on my move and that's how this all work.  Basically if you pack your stuff expect them to be broken upon delivery, if you have the movers pack expect more charges.  By the time it was all said and done I was $6400 into the move and now I have to replace my dishes because I packed them so there not covered under the insurance.  I am out an additional 1000 in the end because of some broken items.  The movers are not delicate with any items even if it is marked FRAGILE.  They are there to do a job and make money.  Oh and have Cash on you they all want more of your money.  Gratuity my a$$.

  9. LA to Chicago.

From the first phone call, we were treated with the utmost respect and courtesy. Immediately after I'd spoken with customer support, I had my quote in my email. We had questions and were trying to decide whether or not to purchase insurance. I called back numerous times with questions and everytime my call was answered right away and I was put in touch with an agent. The guys also made it a point to inform me of the "fine print" of the contracts to make sure we were aware of any and all fees. We were moving from LA to Chicago and there were some concerns of being able to get the truck through the narrow streets of Chicago in front of our building. The agents contacted me and our new apartment manager to set up the move and to make sure that they could in fact get the truck down our street. He also gave us a "worst case senario" if the truck was unable to make it, to make us aware of our options and any additional costs. The customer support was very thorough!  We were given a delivery window of 5-14 days. To our delight, our stuff arrived 8 days after pickup. All of our things were in the exact same condition in which we left them.  Everyone at America's Movers was very helpful and professional throughout our entire move. The customer support was prompt and informative every time we spoke on the phone. The movers were on-time, efficient, experienced, and swift.  We are very satisfied with the services and definitely recommend this company for a long-distance move. We were appropriately informed of the whole process and costs. There were no surprises or hidden fees. Adam, Connor, Dimitruis, Tyrone, and Lamont-Thank you for all of your help!! Great job!!

  10. Move from N.Y state to Wa. state.

I contracted Americas Movers on Jan. 10, 2012 for the move from Hornell, N.Y to Medical Lake Wa. They reacted on short notice, as my first contractor cancelled less than 2 wks. prior to the move schedule. The pick-up window was between 1-14-2012 and 1-19-2012.
They picked up the move on 1-15-2012 and delivered in Wa. 5 days later.
Everything went smoothly with no damaged goods. My initial contact with Americas Movers was Saul and follow-up with Josh.
They were both very profesional and responsive.
I highly recommend Americas Moving Services.

  11. Terrible Company.

I had called America Moving Services for a move from Richmond, VA to NYC. The sales person Michael Martin took my information and sent me a contract. Deposit was paid. First off please read the contract with a fine tooth comb. The slip in everything they can to protect themselves. My nightmare began the day that I was told they were scheduled to come. I received a call from CEH and said that they could not come on the scheduled day since their truck was broken down with a mechanical problem. Jacobi said that they would come the next day. The next day we were expecting a hurricane to hit VA. I called America Moving Company. I spoke again to Micael Martin and he said he would call CEH and will find out what going on. He called me back and said that the truck had a flat and it still may show up the day before the hurricane. I asked to speak to someone in charge. I explained my situation that I wanted to get my house loaded prior to the hurricane. I told him that I had tenants moving into my house on Saturday. He asked me, "why would you do that"?. My response was because I was told they would come on Friday, so it logically made sense that they would have shown up on Friday. Until I said something that no one has even apologized. So my question was is it a flat or a mechanical problem? Later that day no truck but I did get a call from America Moving Service, truck would come on Saturday in the middle of a hurricane I asked. The driver calls me the next morning and said he would be in Richmond at a couple of hours, well the hurricane was upon us and I said if they could guarantee that nothing would get wet then come on up, well they could not do that. CEH said they would re-schedule on Monday. They showed up in a rented truck and when I asked the driver where their truck was he said it needed maintenance. Now logically if the truck was broken down on Friday wouldn't you think they would have down their routine maintenance then? They came to my house with no dolly. 60 boxes, furniture and no dolly. I knew I was in for a long load. 6 hours later they finally finished. To make a long shorter, they showed up in NYC a few days later and the boxes were in terrible condition. Some were wet, when it came time to rebuild my bed they didn't even have any tools with them. I ended up putting the bed together myself the next day. They broke many items including expense antique furniture. How could America Moving Broker use a company that is a fly by night company. Take my adice, if you hear the name CEH or America Moving Service, RUN and don't give them you hard earned money.
