Asata is the worst moving company in NYC. Alex is a liar, and a thief. Avoid at all costs - use any other moving service for a better experience.

Unprofessional and had to call police on them.
I hired this company at 11:30am to do a same day job. I was advised after I made my intial down payment over the phone that they will meet me at my storage unit to pick up items in 2 hours and I will receive a call back in 1 hour to confirm they are on the way. I called them 2 hours later and asked me to wait another 2 hours, I said no, not acceptable. I was then advised to meet them in 40 minutes. When I arrived at my storage unit, Alex was there and was immediately rude. He told me he left another job to do my pick up. He gave me my contract which didn’t say anthing other than the cost which was $650 and that I paid a deposit of $350 and the balance due at drop off. They loaded their truck at 3:45pm and I told Alex I would follow his truck to my new residence which is 1 hour away. Alex told me that he was not going straight to my residence and that he had to finish the job he left and would not start driving to my apartment until 1 hour. I was upset because this was not previously told to me, he stated he didn’t have to tell me. He said the additional pick up was located on the way to my new apartment and he was putting that person items on the same truck with my stuff! He was nasty and rude and kept asking me why I had a issue even after I explained. He told me regardless my delivery would be completed in the 4 hours. I called Alex at 9:30pm to ask where he was because it’s been 4 hours. He told me the additional job took longer than expected and he was 1.5 hours away. He did not apologize and acted as though he didn’t care. Please keep in mind that initially from the original pick up location, it is a 1 hour drive. So now at 9:30pm he is advising he will arrive at 11pm. I advised this is unprofessional and inconsiderate to my neighbors because this is a condominium and not a single family home. Alex arrived at 12:15am! When he arrived, still no apology and demanded the $300 balance so he can unload the truck. He refused to take anything off for the huge inconvenience and breach of contract. I paid him the $300 and he wanted me to sign the invoice but stated I wouldn’t be given a copy because I have the initial invoice that shows total cost $650. I explained this wasn’t sufficient because it only indicates the $350 deposit made in 6/3/18 but does not show the balance paid on 6/4/18. He refused to move my things in my apartment even though he was paid in full at this time. He did not want to write on my initial invoice paid in full and the date, therefore, I refused to sign his copy that items were delivered because technically they weren’t, they were being held hostage on his truck. He was loud and boisterous and as he was yelling about me not needing the documentation of paying in full on 6/4/18 I snatched the contract out his hand. He lounged at me and my uncle had to jump in front of me. We asked him to get out of the apartment but he refused and stated he wanted the contact back. He sat on my living room floor. I called the police. When I saw the police arriving I left to go downstairs and he jumped up to follow me and attempted to reach for me but my mother stepped in between and he pushed her out of his way. The officers got him to sign my invoice paid in full but he still wrote the date 6/3/18. The officers filed a incident report so that the situation can be documented with the date and time. The officers stayed to make sure the situation didn’t escalate. Alex and his helper started moving my things in and put EVERYTHING in the living room. I asked to put the mattress and dressers in the bedroom and he said no. The police offer asked him to do it because this is what movers do and the fact that they were sooooi late and disruptive they should be more accommodating. The officers told them, legally they can’t make him do it but if I take civil action, they will support me. Alex said he didn’t care. He did end up putting one dresser and one bed in the bedroom but put the box spring and everything else in the living room. They took 2 hours to unload. They left the apartment at 2:20am! This was a horrific experience and not the way I wanted to meet my neighbors. One neighbor came out complaining about the noise and I’m so glad the police was there to explain to her the situation was not my fault and that the movers came at 12:15am which was hours after they were suppose to arrive. He explained the disruption is because of them and not me. She seemed satisfied with that. I give this company no stars. They suck and should be out of business.
