  1. Difficult time to obtain refund.

I had a scheduled move for August 8, 2013.  I was not aware COL was a brokerage house which sub-contracted my move.  I had e-mail Jamieson as well as Adams along with the sub-contracted mover, Infinity, that I have to cancel my move because my brother was struck and killed in a pedestrian accident and I have to drive from New York to Virginia and I don't know exactly when I will be moving to Florida. Neither men returned my e-mails to acknowledge receipt of it. I had to contact Dana, customer service rep., to obtain a cancellation number.  I followed the protocol according to the contract to obtain a refund.  I waited approximately a month and there was no credit on my credit card.  I called there customer service number and it was always a machine.  I left a message to have someone contact me.   Be aware when I was contacted to someone using their number advertised, the person asked me which moving coming I am wishing to connect with.  I realized this company has multiple names. As a previous had stated they speak to you nice and very understanding.  As I told the company, I had no control over my brother's death and I would not had cancelled.  My last resort was to have the credit card resolve this matter. I had sent a delivery confirmation letter via United States Postal Service and it came back as location vacated.

  2. Run Away From This Company!!

Our retirement dream quickly turned into a nightmare with this company.  It started with a rented U-Haul with NOTHING for a full pack move..and went downhill from there.  83 pages of photos of damaged items.  I have been pursuing a claim for over 18 months and still no resolve.  I was told today that Continental Vanlines no longer exists!!  Live and learn..do your research!!  I have never been treated with more lies, disrespect and deceit in my entire life!!

  3. Avoid This Company!

My pickup dates changed several times. My clothes were not properly packed in a wardrobe box. Plasma TV was just wrapped in a blanket. It was the same with the other TVs. Boxes are not clearly marked. Carriers claimed they packed items my wife packed. Delivery was five days later than contract, yet I have not been refunded the $35 a day late fee. The folks I spoke with at Garrett's Moving & Storage – which actually handled the move – told me I was not their customer so I was not a priority. All the blankets were removed from items once they were moved into storage. I have boxes and other items sitting on top of my dining room table and china cabinet. I asked for clothes to be put near front of storage locker in order to access them easier .. did not happen. On delivery, there was a surprise $1300 packing fee, which I am disputing as wardrobe boxes were not used and some items were not packed by the carriers. I've been fighting with The Moving Co. – now Continental Van Lines – and Garrett's for two months. I am always told they'll help me, yet nothing ahs been done yet. The only contact is the contact I initiate. There are numerous other problems to mention. This move was a complete disaster, and these companies are sleazy. Avoid them at all cost .. I also will be reporting these companies to the ICC, DOT and BBB. .

  4. Do Not Use This Company!!

It has been 16 months since our horrific move and still I have no resolution to all the damages ($18,000 worth). The company has used 2 different claims adjusting firms.  I get conflicting answers (if any at all) from the MANY different staff members that I have spoken to (when I can get hold of them)  The "full pack" move started with a rented U-Haul with NOTHING.. no paper, boxes, wrapping material of any kind.  The truck was too small for the household, so items were held in storage for over a week.  Items were handled several times.  The move just went downhill from there.  At delivery, the first item out of the trailer pulled behind yet another rented U-Haul was our mattress with the lawn mower upsidedown on top of it!!??  The driver even signed a paper with all the large items listed that were damaged.  Needless to say the whole experience has been a nightmare and the company takes no responsibility or accountability for any of it.  Trying to get some answers or satisfaction has been next to impossible..Continental Van Lines is a sham..using subcontracting companies.  Coast To Coast and Moving America of Houston  are the other moving companies that you should avoid.  I hope this information makes someone thing twice about hiring this company.  They should not remain in business.

  5. Scammers.

This company is a scam! I was quoted what I thought was a great price for my move. I was told it would only take 6 hours. In the end my move was 14 hours not the 6 that I was initially quoted. My sales person seemed very cool at first & understood my situation. What I could not understand at first is that my paperwork began with Continental Van Lines. By the time I received my completed contract their company name had changed to Moving America of Tampa. I was told this is their sister company.  After going online and contacting the DOT I found out that they have no License to move anyone.  I had to do everything possible not to drive to their office & punch Greg my sales person in the face. To make it worse he told me he was the General Manager of the company. I have missing items, torn sofa, chipps on my tables & dressers. I had wet furniture that ruined the finish & wet boxes that fell apart. I was told by the movers that the truck has a hole in the roof and when it rains stuff gets wet. They told me to call the office and make a complaint.   Do Not Use This Company If You Value Your Wallet & Belongings!!

  6. I recently helped move my girlfriend into an apartment.

I recently helped move my girlfriend into an apartment using Continental Van Lines and couldn't have been happier. They had her entire jewelry studio downstairs into a truck in a half hour.  Wrapped her mattress in plastic to protect it during the ride and used painters' blankets to protect desks and dressers from damage.  I'd recommend being organized prior to the move, because they'll have your [EDIT] in their truck in no time if you are.

  7. Moving.

Most dishonest moving company. They talk to you very sweet  while giving you quote and taking deposit. After that they just don't care abour customers. They lie and are  dishonest. I felt like using all abusve laguage but controlled my temper. I m guessing that couple of good review were written by them selves. PLEASE DON'T USE THIS COMPANY.

  8. Do. Not. Use. This. Company.

Hands down – the most dishonest, untrustworthy, careless, and ineffective moving company in the market. Please, do me and do yourself a favor by taking your business elsewhere. Also, please keep in mind this move takes place with two children under the age of two, and a pregnant wife due with our third child being overwhelming affected the entire time our ordeal went on. Also, we had to spend tons of money to rearrange our flight schedules, I had to miss 3 straight days of work, and we had to pay our landlord extra for running over our lease as a result of Continental’s egregious incompetence and lack of care. Shameful these people are able to run any kind of business at all; they only cause pain and damage to those who employ their services. This company couldn’t have been more helpful while we were working through the initial contract. They’d call us back, give us moving tips, and communicate regularly on email. Then, after taking our $950 deposit, things began to change. We initially signed our contact on 5/30/13, with an estimated moving date of Tuesday, June 25th. We were assured at the beginning that the movers and truck would be there on the 25th and we would receive a call 5-days in advance that everything was ready to go. On Sunday, June 23 we still hadn’t heard a word from the movers, so we decided to reach out ourselves to get confirmation. We emailed, called…and, nothing. No response at all from anyone. Moving day, June 25th comes around…and no truck or movers are at our home. Worse yet, not a single phone call or email from anyone at Continental Van Lines alerting us that there was a delay. No call, no show. We continue and continue to call the number we were given, and never get an answer. Wednesday, June 26th comes around and again, no call/no show by Continental. I call dispatch again 11 times in the morning, finally get an answer from a person and am told they will call me back soon. All day passes, and I never received a call back with a status update. I continued calling other numbers I located on their website, and this time we were able to speak with someone from their company, finally – who happened to be our original salesman named John (in Houston). He claims he has absolutely no idea what is going on with our account and is totally helpless in getting our situation rectified. He promises to look into the matter and return my call later that day. Again, all day passes, and John never returns my phone call. Thursday, June 27th comes and once again, no movers or truck is at my house. I speak with Kyle for a long time begging for an update, desperate for answers and reasons as to why they are treating us so incredibly poorly. I beg to speak to a manager to get answers, I demand to know how they could have screwed our move up so badly. At this point, I am at my 3rd straight day off work and our home’s lease is officially about to expire. We are approaching a very hard deadline, and no one from Continental seems capable of giving me straight talk or providing answers. One dispatcher even had the audacity to say to me on June 27th, “Well, uh, someone’s dad died last week, that’s what the problem was.” When I pressed her for details on this death she admitted it wasn’t true. How is that for customer service?! I then was passed onto Tom in Operations who said he would spend all day Thursday trying to get a truck to be used for our move which was now apparently scheduled for Friday, June 28th. To recap: Tuesday, June 25: No call, No Show Wednesday, June 26: No call, No Show Thursday, June 27: No show, Guarantee that a truck will be ready by Friday June 28 Then on the evening of June 27, I get a phone call from Tom saying he was unable to secure a truck for Friday’s move…all this, and he expects me to feel sorry for HIM. Never once did they acknowledge how much pain, suffering, and inconvenience over the past week of missing deadlines and making false promise that continued to be broken over, and over, and over, and over again. Here is the best part, though. After speaking with Tom and begging for answers, I ask to speak with his General Manager. Even though I had asked Kyle and Tom numerous times to speak with their manager without ever getting anywhere I figured it was worth one more shot. This time, it worked. I was able to speak with someone named Craig who told me he was the GM, and he then had the audacity to ask me what was so important that I made him leave his meeting to speak about… Think about that for one minute. Let that process. His company fails to show up, fails to call, fails to communicate, and fails to live up to their contract over the course of an entire week – completely RUINING my family’s move and causing us thousands of dollars in changing our schedules around to accommodate his company’s failures….and he thinks I am inconveniencing HIM. That’s the type of people we’re dealing with here. After a heated conversation where I demand to know what has happened to our account and why his people have failed us so badly and put my entire family in such a terrible spot, Craig hangs up on me. Their GM hung up on me instead of speaking to me. He then immediately calls me back and says that his company is no longer able to help us and will not be working on our account any longer. HE BROKE OUR CONTRACT, after ALL THE HELL HE PUT US THROUGH…he broke our contract and said good luck. Now, it’s Thursday evening, and we have no way to get our belongings to our new home in the Midwest. After being strung along for over a month, and all but ignored, trampled on, and forgotten about all week, we have no way of getting our things home. All because the smug, arrogant, and ineffective employees at Continental failed to perform a single part of our move then quit on us without assisting in any way, shape or form. Our lease runs up in two days, and we have not been able to find another moving company who can help us in such a short amount of time. In short, we’re completely and utterly stuck. We will now have to pay thousands more in moving costs, warehousing costs, and expedition costs all because Continental failed us so completely. Please, please, please – look at other reviews on this website and others…it’s all the same. They screw over their customers on a regular basis and are the most unprofessional outfit in the market. Do not trust a word they say, and do not put your faith in them to move your belongings. They couldn’t do the right thing for a stranded family with two kids and pregnant wife – what makes you think they will do the right thing for you?

  9. Continental Van LIARS.

Company was very unprofessional. Negligent managing of furniture. Drop some furniture in front of us and assured that Insurance will cover it. At the end, they hide other damage items until I paid them everything. Then the place them where they wanted and left without giving us chance to inspect.   I have been dealing with their insurance company "Claims Adjusting Firm". The total of the damages as per insurance (real or replacement value would be way higher) was $480. They offer $48. I said that it wasn't acceptable and they denied to reconsider. My attorney wrote a letter to the insurance and then they send me a email that they will not longer cover Continental Van Lines. I have tried to contact them but they are very disrespectful and last time they hang up the phone on me.

  10. Job well done.

Frank and Gregory were my contact in Bayonne,  NJ.  They are extremely helpful and of course very professional.  The movers arrived on time and they were also professional.  They didn't break or steal anything.  Moving is never easy but somehow those guys did a fast and wonderful job.  They put together all my furniture without additional charges.  This local move was not costly, rather reasonable.  I will definitely advise others to give Continental Van Lines a chance, The Bayonne location is extremely great and most of all HONEST. .

  11. Ross Trucking?

I had some problem with my initial contact. Seems he didn't have everything together. When I talked with the supposed officer supervisor, Greg, he said he'd take my contract and I could call him any time and he'd take care of it. Right! Couldn't return phone calls or Emails. One excuse was he was out sick. Ok, does everything stop because one person is sick? I was told the people that would pick up my furniture would be in uniforms and have ID's. The day the moving company showed up, it was a sub contractor. Ross trucking from North Carolina was the truck that showed up. The two guys were great. Gusted their butts to get the job done but the first thing they wanted me to sign was a "CONTRACT" that their company gave them for compensation for their good job. It was asking for 15 to 20 percent of the cost of the job. The company drafted up that deal, what a sham. They weren't in uniforms, no ID's, only thing that made it feasible was the fact that they had a copy of the contract and I got the phone person at Continental to confirm it. And the communications with Ross (was one of the owners) was very disturbing. He even expressed anger at the fact I questioned his answers to my questions. There were too many answers that didn't add up so yes, I asked questions and he got insulted. Too bad for him. I would hope someone could take this company and look closely at their way of doing business. Not just Continentalbut Ross trucking too.

  12. Misleading customers.

I had the worst experience with this company.  Unbeknownst to me they transferred me to a broker, not a moving company.  Having never had experience with moving where I didn't do it myself, I believed all they told me, including the necessity of putting down a $799.49 deposit.  The person I talked to gave me a very reasonable estimate, and once I put down the deposit told me he'd be my go-to person, would take very good care of me, etc.  I believed it completely.  A week before the move, someone else called to confirm everything and gave me an estimate of about twice the first amount.  I called back within an hour, but they were closed, so I left a message.  When they finally called me back the end of the next day, they told me I didn't give enough notice and their records showed I had called that same morning so I was just out of luck.  What??  Weeks later I finally contacted an attorney about getting my deposit refunded.  He had as much trouble with their communication system as I had - being transferred multiple times, being put on hold for long periods of time, etc - and the best they would part with was $150.  When I received the paperwork via email to sign, it stated (paraphrased) that they did nothing wrong and were just giving me that token amount to shut me up.  They made $650 for doing absolutely nothing.  I am told this is a common practice.  .

  13. Refund issues.

I tried canceling with them, there phone was disconnected.Ii emailed Jamieson and never got a reply. Only when I left an email saying I was contacting the AG did the owner/manager contact me and tell me how long he's been doing moves and how experienced he was and why they don't have an A rating with the bbb. The quote I received was a very good price, almost too good to be true when the big name moving companies wanted $4,000. I cancelled my job at another date March 6. They hold that money and when you call and ask they don't let you speak to the financial services, they just say its been refunded it just has to go through our bank. Today is the 19 and I called again only to get the same answer that it can take up to 30 days. I don't know about other people but I think $599.00 is a lot of money to just be floating around especially when you have other bills to pay. Again had to tell them I was going to be calling my lawyer and the AG if that money is not in my account tomorrow. Not a good experience for me and my first move. Honestly I would shell out the 4000 to get a reputable company.

  14. Nightmare Experience with CONTINENTAL VAN LINES/ RENO MOVERS.

Our experience was so very horrific and terrible!!  Continental/Reno Movers nearly doubled our costs in-route and held our household ransom 4 days until my employer agreed to pay.  This is after my employer and I thought we had a not to exceed cost agreement with Continental.  Continental Van Lines Relocation Division, Inc 600 NE 28th Ct #610, Pompano Beach, FL.  Jamison Lewis (Continental Salesman) lied to us and my employer. He told my company that I had chosen them, and unknown to me demanded three down payments before the move.  He quoted the cost of the move without sending anyone to walk through our home for a first hand assessment, saying our costs were based on having a dedicated truck that based on the number of rooms of our home and verbal inventory, we would not completely fill.  We had a contract with Continental Van Lines, and unknown to us or my employer paying for the move, they "sublined" the move to Reno Movers (St Louis).  Both companies are SCAM artists!! Save yourself and your family from a living nightmare and DO NOT USE CONTINENTAL VAN LINES or RENO MOVERS.  Reno Movers are a group of Croatian Foreign Nations/ Thugs.  They broke several pieces of our furniture and only "discounted" the cost of the move $18 (after escalating from $14K to $22,750) for an broken antique table pedestal, and large oak table seating 8 people.  They did not set-up any of our things at the destination as they were supposed to under contract.  One of their guys came into our home with flu symptoms and sat around nearly the entire time.  My family and I all pooled in to help unload the truck to get them out of our home.

  15. Yes, BEWARE People!!

First, the salesman talked a good game in selling me.  They do a quote over the phone and you try to detail the items and he tells you he is good at guessing weights on items.  Closer to the move date, I called mover to verify my move date.  The QA guy answered and he re-did the inventory with me - which he came out to be about 500lbs more than the salesman and wanted an additional $400 down on top of the $687 I had initially put down.  Qa guy then told me he or someone would contact me that SAT by NOON to confirm exact date and time frame of the date.  That never happened!  I had to call them.  They told me the carrier would call me the day of about 1-2 hrs ahead of pick up, which they did do that. Move was planned 4 months in advance and an exact date was given about a month or more prior to actual move.  I got a call from the "carrier", Best Moving Group (Ha!) and called indicated they would be a day late.  I refused to hear this and emphasized that this was unacceptable as the move was planned months in advance.  She said she would speak to her supervisor and call back.  She called back hours later and said they would come on the actual scheduled date but it would be afternoon time.  Pretty much this was the only bright spot in this move.  When the movers (2 guys but pretty efficient) showed up they estimated the weight to be almost 1700lbs over salesman's estimate - Great!  More money!  Driver said their company would call me with the new updated price and actual weight..never happened.  I had to call them and that was a quest - I had problems getting anyone from either company.  I was told by the carrier that they had a break down and were going to be late - Sunday instead of Friday as contract gave them a 72 delivery window.  I had been sitting in my new home for 3 days with almost nothing so I freaked out again on the woman calling from the carrier.  I told her that I was going to report the company to the Fed Motor Carriers Safety Assoc and US DOT and ripped her about not having a contingency plan in place for this kinds of situation.  She again, said she would talk to supervisor and call back, which she did.  She said they would be there Sat morn.  In the meantime I tried to get ahold of the mgr of Continental VanLines to no avail but I did get a rep, who said they would 'compensate' for the discrepancy in delivery date agreed to actual and to call back after the carrier arrives.  Well, that was saturday and I once again, tried to call Continental to no avail.  I kept calling the main number and then attempted a couple of extensions I had remembered and finally some woman answers without saying company name and she then hands phone to the QA guy.  I thanked him for NOT calling me back when he said he would in regards to confirmation of the pick up date and then ripped him for being late - he said he could not do anything because he was not in the office and out at a car dealership.  I requested he have his mgr call me, which never happened.   The only items damaged were some dishes/glasses and a lamp. This company is a joke!!
