Worst experience ever!! This is my 4th move in the last 9 years and 12th move in my lifetime, so I’m an experienced mover. I booked Dolly through Updater which is a service used by my new apartment complex. The two men who came showed up with a cargo van for my 2 bedroom apartment. A cargo van! When I told them I needed a bigger vehicle they said that was all they had. I made it clear that if they couldn’t get a bigger vehicle I wanted them to stay because I was on a deadline and needed to get my furniture moved ASAP. They made a phone call to the company who subsequently called me. While I was on the phone with the company, the two guys with the cargo van left. They did not say anything to me. They just left! I shared this with the customer service rep who then said she would try to get someone with a larger vehicle if not that day, the next say for sure. For the next 24 hours I was
promised they would get me moved. Guaranteed. At 1:00 pm the next day, I received a phone call from a customer service rep saying they could NOT get movers to me that day and then actually asked me if I would like to continue to use their service. (That was a big NO!) To say this was a disaster is an understatement. The extra expense, the stress, the scrambling to get out of my old apartment by my move out date and getting all of my things moved to the new place…..AWFUL!!! Stay far away from this so called company. They are the absolute worst! (The one and only semi good thing I can say about Dolly is, although I was afraid to cancel the job myself because their policy is to charge 20% if you do, in the end, they did not charge me anything - as it should be.) Honestly, I consider this a public service announcement, not a review.
*Note - All the calls I received were from Chicago so there are no local representatives and, apparently, they only use subcontractors so you never know who you’re going to get. I ended up using U-Haul. It was a pain because I had to pick up the vehicle and they also use subcontractors. They weren’t the greatest but at least they showed up and got the job done. Somehow, even using subcontractors, U-Haul was able to find helpers for me within a matter of hours. A word from the newly wised up - steer clear of Dolly!
