  1. NEVER USE

I would have given a 0 if I could. I was told they do not outsource to a third party. That was a lie. When I received my things I found out from the third party delivery that J&R had an issue with the truck & there was a lot of water damage. I tried contacting my mover coordinator Ben & sent him pics, but he never got back to me except to text me a claims address which that group never responded to me. I have been trying to get reimbursed for over a year. Never Ever Use this company. They lie, and treat your property poorly.

  2. Moving job

Thanks J&R Moving for a stressful free moving job! I had them move me from Ga to FL great job.aThe team was awesome!

  3. HORRIBLE COMPANY-STAY AWAY

This company rips you off! The quotes they provide are reasonable and then they charge you 200% more and hold your items hostage if you don't pay. Items were damaged and the movers refused to put several pieces were requested.

DON'T USE THIS COMPANY AS THE ARE HORRIBLE!

  4. Long distance move

STAY AWAY! All our belongings were ruined (cracked, scratched, broken) or missing upon delivery. I had the worst moving experience ever with J&R Moving Services. I have moved cross country multiple times for school and work, and I have never experienced such horrible customer service.

On move in day (7/6/20), in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, a driver and three other workers show up without masks, gloves, or hand sanitizer (despite an email from management stating that all workers would have these precautions). Immediately, they stated that there will be an extra charge because of the elevator and greater than 75 foot distance from the truck to apartment door (this was not mentioned in the estimate provided over the phone when I made the reservation). They unsystematically wrapped our furniture with dirty blankets, and got everything in the truck in less than 1 hour. They stated that payment can only be made via Zelle, Venmo, cash, or check, but not credit card (despite it being stated on the initial estimate that credit card would be accepted). They said the reason was because they had "been scammed" in the past (ironically, they are the ones doing the scamming).

When our truck arrived with our belongings, the driver (not the same as the initial driver) asked me to come down to see the furniture in the truck before he moved them out of the truck. I was surprised to find that every single piece of furniture was damaged or ruined in some way. The office desks were cracked and scratched in multiple places, the chair legs were broken, the dining room table legs was damaged, the mattress had completely lost its shape (there was no cover on it at all and it was completely dirty after sitting in the truck for 10 days), the box spring had holes in it, and the headboard had many scratches on it as well (only half covered with blankets). On initial inspection, we noticed that they lost / stole our bookshelf and dining room chair. Moreover, many boxes that my wife and I packed had been visibly opened and then poorly closed again. When we started unpacking our belongings, we realized that some of our things had been stolen from the boxes (three cologne bottles and an external hard-drive that contains our wedding video).

After contacting the owner multiple times, he said the best he could do is to expedite the claims process for us. He said the best he could do is to give us $700 (about 1/5 the cost of all damages, and 1/5 the cost of the move itself). However, after submitting a settlement of agreement (after receiving my initial deposit back via credit cards claims department), they declined to process the $700 refund. Please stay away from this company at all costs; it was not worth the “savings”. Please see attached pictures for damages and for pictures of the two thieves who were responsible for everything. Their names are [NAME EDIT] and [NAME EDIT].

  5. Moving to New state

I used J & R moving for my move from Nashville to FL in early October. When they were trying to get my business, I would get non-stop calls from the salesperson. Once they secured my business I heard nothing. I was the one that had to call them to find out what day my belongings were being picked up 2 days before my scheduled move, and only got a call back after leaving a stern message for them. The day of move went smoothly and delivery was quick to FL, picked up Sat delivered on Tues. Reginald was professional and a pleasure to work with. However, the movers did damage several items; ripped my leather couch in 2 places, took 3 sizable chunks out of dresser, and broke the shelving in my entertainment center. In addition, I was charged $75 for additional stairs when I did not have stairs at either place. The salesperson, James, insured me it would be removed from my bill but to this day, I have not received a refund. I have sent 4 emails and left voicemail but nothing back from them. I have filed a claim for the damage to my items but not sure if I will hear anything back on that either. Due to this utter lack of professionalism, I cannot recommend using J & R Moving Service. If you have another choice, take it. Don't worry about saving money as they will lowball others, but you will pay for it in the end.

  6. Moving.

The moving company was excellent! They arrived on time. There was no damage to my furniture. My furniture was staged to my satisfaction. I would highly recommend them to my friends and family. Thanks Alexis for all your help.

  7. Moving to a new city.

Mr. Reggie Fortson with J & R Movers was very professional and prompt. He arrived to our house, professionally wrapped all of our items, and transported them to a city 2 hours away without any unfortunate incidents. Thank you, Mr. Fortson of Elberton, GA.

  9. Nightmare.

This company is absolutely awful!! They are extremely deceptive and care nothing about your belongings or personal experience. Ben Johnson is a coward and wouldn’t answer my calls after the 4th week of not receiving my belongings. It took them 7 weeks when I was quoted at ten to 14 days. They also up charged me and were rude to deal with. Please do not ever think about using them. They are not good people.

  10. Stay Away!

I have moved with professional movers 5 times before hiring J&R Moving Services out of Elberton, GA, and I should have known better. I decided to go with the best price instead of a more reputable company because I had to make my moving budget stretch for various reasons. Rookie mistake. Ben Johnson talked a good game and gave me an excellent price. The thing that sold me was the free storage for a month that I was going to need. Again, I should have known better. He also assured me that their company would be handling everything from pick up to delivery. I did not want my shipment contracted out. We'll get back to that later.

Everything seemed to be good, leading up to them picking things up. Communication was a little scarce, but I didn't think much of it. The movers showed up, and I had everything packed and ready to go. They loaded it up pretty quickly and seemed to wrap everything well. All seemed good. As I was signing the paperwork, I was informed I owed about $180 in supply cost. In my 5 previous professional moves, I have never had an added expense, so I was surprised. They also wouldn't take a card, so I had to run to go and get cash. Not a big thing to ger worked up about, especially since all my goods were on the truck already.

Off my shipment went and I would let them know when I had a place in my new city. A couple of weeks went by, and after a few days of calling and leaving messages, I was able to talk to someone and get a delivery date. The next week the truck pulls up and they have one person, whom I come to find out, didn't work for J&R, and had been contracted to deliver and off-load my shipment. I was moving into a 5th floor loft (with an elevator) and they charged me an extra $250 or so because there were some steps and it was farther than contracted. Fine, no problem, I just wanted my stuff. I asked the guy for a receipt and he told me his company would send me one. When I asked for that information, he couldn't give it to me and ended up giving me two different names for the company.

He hired a local man to "help" him unload and deliver my shipment. I put help in quotes because the driver spends most of the time on the phone with his wife, on speaker, arguing with her right in front of me. The poor local guy was doing everything. When I said something, I was ignored, so I ended up helping the local guy unload as much as possible. Mind you, I was 5 months removed from back surgery but I was tired and pissed at this point. They finish, and I realize that two pieces did not show up. Both were large items and should not have been misplaced. This guy has no info, so he calls J&R and talks to someone I hadn't spoken with during this process. I talk to the guy, and he assures me someone will be in touch to sort this out. Not surprisingly, I never got a call. I spend the next 2 weeks calling and leaving messages for Ben and J&R. I try all of their extensions and nothing. I ended up calling the original driver from my pick-up, who it winds up is the owner. The next day I hear from Ben, and he tells me he will look into it. Nothing, no return call. I start calling again and finally get him on the phone. He tells me I need to file a grievance with some website. I do and never hear from them.

So, I am throwing my hands up and figure I will never see the two things they lost or destroyed. I won't get a penny back either. That said, I told them if they do not communicate with me, I was going to make sure to put this experience on websites that have a rating system, so anyone that sees this knows not to ever work with this company. They couldn't have cared less once they got the money. They lied to me and when I had questions about their mistakes, they disappear. Avoid J&R Moving Services of Elberton, GA, at all costs.

  11. My experience.

My move was picked up on October 8th (originally scheduled for Oct 7th) from NC to CO. I was told it would be "at most" 10-14 days before they would deliver my move as they worked on weekends. I was required to pay a deposit, which I did, and told I would be responsible for 50% of the balance at pick up & the remaining 50% at the time of delivery. On October 7th I waited for movers to show up with no communication from the company until I reached out to them and they had dispatch contact me and let me know it would be the next day before they could pick up my move. Oct 8th movers showed up in the afternoon (3:30pm) after truck difficulties and traveling from GA and loaded my already packed house onto their truck (They were 3 very nice and professional men-best thing I can say for this experience. They were helpful & kind). At this time I was informed 70% of the remaining balance was due, not the 50% that was agreed upon. Semantics, I know, but money can be tight at times during a move. I spoke to the representative who originally helped me & his response was basically-as long as the bottom line total didn't change, it is what it is, but that wasn't his understanding of how it was supposed to go. Reluctantly, I paid it. Since then I have reached out to the company several times, left messages, and sent emails trying to get updates on my move arrival date and approximate time. I finally received a call from dispatch on October 17 informing me my move would arrive on the 23rd. When I mentioned the 10-14 days I was quoted he told me that was "business days" contradicting the first representative who told me they worked through the weekends and never said business days. Taking it in stride, I booked the service elevator at my apartment for Oct 23rd to assist the movers and save myself "stair fees". I have not heard from anyone from the company since the 17th. It is Oct 23rd today, just past noon.. I have called multiple times this morning & left messages & reached representatives two different times who said they'd call me back with information.. No information has been provided.

I have no idea when my move will be delivered or what condition it will be in when it gets here. I would not recommend this moving company to anyone. They have not made this move comfortable or a smooth process during an already stressful time.

UPDATE! It's 1:50PM.. After calling the company and dispatcher, leaving more messages, & not receiving any information I finally blocked my phone number and called the dispatcher again.. He answered.. There's a "big delay" and my move hasn't even been loaded to come to me. It MIGHT be here on Monday, 10/28/2019. Someone needs to contact me. This is unbelievable.
