In June of 2019, I contacted Rob at Long Island Moving and Storage and explained that we would be moving our 1 bedroom apartment to our new apartment a few miles away. I gave a detailed explanation of the rooms that would be moved. I was quoted $625 and told that the entire move could be completed by 2 men in 4 hours (plus 1 hour of travel time.) The day of the move, the movers were several hours late.
When moving our king-size mattress, they decided to fold it, and then wrap it. We immediately intervened and asked them to unfold it so that it would not get damaged. It did get damage nonetheless, and handles on both sides of the mattress were ripped off. We were told we could put in a claim.
The move took over eight hours with travel time, instead of the four quoted to us, and hence cost significantly more. Our $625 quote became $1,081 and we were required to pay them in cash.
The day after the move we noticed that the bottom shelf of our coffee table had been cracked.
We contacted the company and Rob told us that someone named Diane, who works in the claim department, would call us shortly. Weeks went by; we followed up several times, and Diane never called. (It has now been months since the move and Diane has still not called.) We followed up again and we were told to put in a claim on their website. The claim form required notarization, but when we called to ask how they would like us to notarize an online form we were again told that we would receive a follow-up phone call. Weeks went by and we were never called. We called again, spoke to Rob’s father and we were told to print a copy, notarize it, and resubmit the entire claim online. We immediately did this and resubmitted the claim. Again, more weeks went by and no one followed up. We continued to follow up and Rob and his father, presumably the owner of the business assured us they would look into it and return our call. We were promised a return call within 24 hours. Unfortunately this never happened.
It has now been over 5 months since the move and no one has called us back, or settled our claim for our damage. We have contacted this company a minimum of 15 times and have been ignored. We even put in a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and they won't respond to that either. They don't care about you, your possessions, or their reputation.
Great Movers.
After speaking to several moving companies and getting estimates, we decided to hire Long Island Moving & Storage, Inc., for our relocation from Garden City, NY to Philadelphia, PA. Their professionalism and pleasant helpful demeanor, as well as the moving quote provided (which was very competitive) helped make our choice easy. From the first conversation with an estimator, to the last piece of furniture brought into our new home and set up and placed by the actual moving team, our experience with this company has been wonderful! The moving crew led by Anthony(the foreman) were right on time as promised, they handled all our delicate expensive furniture and possessions with "kid gloves", quilt-pad blanket wrapping every piece. They crated all exposed glass such as mirrors and table tops for a small added fee, and drove to PA the very next day as promised, delivering our shipment in a very safe and timely manner! My wife and I consider ourselves very lucky to have chosen this moving company and highly recommend them to anybody looking for fairly priced dependable movers!
