  1. Con artists Meathead scammers

Avoid this company like Covid. Total scam artists and cons.

We were quoted for $1500 by the company before our move. My wife did a in-depth inventory to them of everything to move. She actually padded her estimate with extra boxes so we would be under the estimate too. The company says their movers move fast. Well not the day after Halloween. They were about 30 minutes late because of their movers were too hungover to go to work. The ones that did come were hungover, slow, and falling all over the place. Before the move started, the lead mover told my wife since we had less items than the quote, it would be only $1200. Wtf. Our final bill was 1875.

Not only that but they destroyed our bush in the front lawn and then tried to hide it by throwing the evidence away in the green trash can. They broke items like a super expensive lamp. They also hit the corner wall with heavy furniture and didn't mention that either. We reached out about the damage and got a dumb college kid on the phone that said to fix the wall was only $30 bucks of material at Wal Mart. He basically said it was only $30 and your problem. We filed an insurance claim with the company and still haven't heard anything back about the broke items and house damage 10 weeks later.

The movers and the people that run it are extremely unprofessional.

    Don't use them. So unprofessional.

With everything going on in the world, this company just ended up adding a ton more stress into our lives.

  2. What a Con!

RIPPED OFF is how we felt. Moving is stressful enough but this company added to it by not filling up their truck and only moving about 2/3rds of our stuff. We had to hire another company to get the rest moved, including heavy furniture.

They said they would send a crew for two days to move us. First day 3 women showed up.. LATE and told us they were not physically able to move everything. They did fine wrapping up the kitchen glass, etc. but just could not cope with the heavy lifting

The next day, a crew of men showed up..LATE. They started loading the truck and when it was about 2/3rds full, informed us that was all they could take. We were surprised and angry since it was plenty expensive and we are elderly on a fixed income. We called our contact at Meathead whose attitude was basically "Oh Well. Your stuff is already on the truck." BUT WAIT!! They were willing to come back out again for the cost of a whole "new move" for thousands of dollars.

We have moved around the world a lot in life as a military family but this was the worst move EVER! And we had to hire another company in order to even complete our move. Save yourself time, expense and exhaustion and do NOT hire this company.

  3. Rip Off.

BAD BAD BAD!! All around BAD. If you want a stressful move and be extorted for more money on move day, please hire Meathead Movers.

I hired a moving company to have a stress free move, jokes on me I guess.

I had a person come out and estimate my move. I got an estimate sheet and since I have not used a moving company before I took them at their word. Things were coded in a way that I didn't fully understand, but based on the reviews I accepted their quote and hired them.

Getting an email response from the estimator was like pulling teeth. I would send an email and get short answers, and when asked for them to call me, crickets. I believed in the mission of Meathead Movers so I chalked it up to busy students. Move day comes and about half way through loading the truck the loaders come to me and said they could load about 10 more boxes and some of my furniture and the rest will have to stay and I would have to figure out another way to get my stuff moved. To be fair the lead loader did make some calls to try to help me out, turns out for an additional $1000 they could load as many items to the truck as they could. After they extorted me out of $1000. They actually filled to the rim, but I was left with about a quarter of my garage still full. I had to scramble to get it all moved by midnight. I had to have someone drive from where my items would be moved to 3 hours away rent a uhaul, drive it down to me, hire extra people to help load the uhaul, and them drive back the 3 hours. Needless to say I ended the day at 3AM, pissed, tired, and feeling ripped off.

Since the move happened on Saturday and the unloading on Sunday, Monday happened to be a holiday so I had to wait until Tuesday to speak to someone about this situation. Didn't get to the correct person until Wednesday. Apparently Allison is the only person in the entire company that can make decisions on refunding money so I am now at her mercy listening to her defend the employees that made these mistakes. Fun Fact: Turns out that they don't even have a big enough truck to hold all my stuff so literally all this could have been avoided if the estimate would have been accurate.

I am hoping they will do the right thing and make this right.

  4. Will Not Honor Damage Claim.

Failed to honor insured damage claim

During a move, Meathead employees severely damaged a teak library unit with an original cost of $16,000. But, I thought "No, worries, I bought their REPLACEMENT VALUE insurance." It has been 66 days now and I still have no resolution. Meathead rep, will not turn my call over to a supervisor. I have requested numerous time to be provided with the insurance carrier name and have yet to receive it. Below is an abbreviated version of my complaint.

9/26 (Day 1): I contacted Meathead, provided a completed claim form and photos and was referred to their concierge service to help me find a place for repairs. The concierge was a joke. They gave me a list of 3 places. #1 was a company that only did business by email--no physical address or phone number. #2 was a furniture upholsterer that did "refinishing on the side." (Oh sure, I'll hand over my gorgeous upscale library to a guy who specializes in upholstery.) The third company said "we won't do business with Meathead Movers."

I called the rep at Meathead to complain. He said "go get a bid." (At this point I requested an insurance adjuster -- which was declined). I started researching companies qualified to do restoration on a high-end piece of furniture. What I found out is that quality companies charge to come to do an estimate (otherwise they'd be wasting their time giving out estimates instead of working.) I called Meathead back to tell them this and the guy said "my supervisor said he needs one bid." So, because they would not pay for a bid, I paid $150 for a restorer to come look at it. The quote was nearly $10,000!

So, after a couple of weeks the rep told me the boss wants 3 bids! After a couple of weeks, I get a call from the concierge service with some companies to contact. Most of them did not have websites or photos of work to look at. Mostly, they were a bunch of handymen who do minor work and not specializing in restoration of fine furniture. I complained to the rep. It took him 10 days but he came up with a few more companies. I finally was able to obtain another estimate without paying them in advance to come out -- the company looked great and their bid was substantially less. I sent Meathead the bid with the caveat that if the damage is worse than detailed on the bid, there may be a revision. I sent that bid to them on 11/15.

12/1 (Day 66 with NO RESPONSE): Two more weeks have passed and I still have no answers. After countless email conversations, telephone calls and the usual canned response "I apologize for the delay .. I realize you are upset .. and blah blah blah," Please note: This is an abbreviated version that hits the high points only. I have a file that contains 54 email conversations documenting my claim along with numerous phone calls – all of which have resulted in not honoring the claim. It’s my feeling that they are not intending to resolve this issue or want to wear me down until I give up.
