  1. Items not received after 2 months

If I could give zero stars I would. I had my things picked up early December 2020.

When I first called and booked everything i was actually booking through what I though was a different company (American Standard Moving) and it turns out that they use a third party for the actual moving. Didn't know that until pick up day. When I called to schedule this I spoke with a broker named Mitch. He told me 3-5 days from pick up to delivery and that "our guys can do 500 miles in a day easy". Everywhere else was a couple weeks atleast so I went with them. I could not be several weeks without my things so I decided to go with them.

Pick up day comes around and they extorted me for an extra $300 since my daughter had her clothes in a bag instead of a box and they needed to box it. And they added $150 since she was on a 3rd floor apartment. I get stairs are annoying but I was transparent about this when I booked the move and the broker originally waived the fees. Not really having any other choice at the time I agreed to it. In hindsight I should have told them to take a hike and just eat my losses with my deposit.

The waiting game begins. I wait a week for my things and no word at all. I call them up and they say that a delivery driver hasn't been assigned yet but one should be assigned by Friday then my items will be on route. I told them I needed everything by Christmas and asked if it I should get it by then. They assured me I should have it by then. Christmas comes and goes. New years comes and goes. No delivery, not even a phone call. Basically from here on out I play this game where I call them once a week and they say I should be getting a call any day from the driver. At one point the truck broke down but the driver never called anybody to tell them so. I have been exceedingly patient and polite every time I talk to them but now I'm starting to lose it. I asked for a discount off my final bill. They offered a $50 discount. $50!!! That is an absolute joke. Honestly the only way they could make it right is if they canceled the final payment altogether. All of my daughters clothes, her bed, her laptop and gaming devices, and all her art supplies and her taxidermy is on that truck. She has been without a bed and clothes for about 2 months now. At what point does this become theft? It has been WELL past the reasonable expectation for delivery.

Where I am now...it is now early February and I was told I should be getting a call from the driver any day now. ?

  2. Worst!!

This company is extremely deceitful and amoral. They increased our move cost when we had no options. We took them to court and WON using photographic evidence of their fraud and we have not seen a dime of reimbursement! They are the worst and will lie to earn your business and then hold your belongings hostage when they increase the price. DO NOT believe anything they say and hang up when they call!! I have moved with several companies since I've been married and have NEVER experienced this level of incompetence and dishonesty. Run, Run away!!

  3. Run far away from this company.

We have been fighting for over a year with this company regarding our move from Wisconsin to Florida in June, 2018. Do not believe anything they tell you. They did not honor the quote, they did not pickup and deliver as quoted. They held our belongings hostage until we paid the 50% more than the original quote. When we finally got our stuff, much of it was broken and over a dozen boxes were missing. We went thru the process to file a claim with movingclaims.net, and the settlement they gave us did not even cover the cost to run copies of all the paperwork they wanted. Now my calls do not go thru to either company, and we are still out our whopping $70.00 settlement check. Run far away from this company. Do not call them for even a quote. Their sales people were very slick and sucked me into to believing them and that they were the same as the 'big company' with a similar name. If I could give these guys zero stars I would.

  4. My terrible experience.

This company kept my belongings for over one month. then when I get it they only brought me about a quarter to maybe a half of my belongings made it to me. I paid for insurance for stuff to be replaced if broken I left messages no one contacts me they run my kitchen table that seats eight such a very big tall expensive set they did not contact me about any of the damage that they did they'd ask me to email them pictures I did that no response no response from them for nothing. I would not recommend this company for anything they are horrible they kept the most important things that I needed the most down here to my move and yeah no response after paying for insurance and everything else.

  5. Lost my hospital bed remote PLUS.

I am very disappointed in this company that they represent there movers. They hire folks that are not interested in protecting your household. They lost half a heavy duty shelf and a dozen boxes. The most disturbing news is that they had no idea what happened to the medical bed remote. Filed a complete claim and never heard a word! Buyer Beware!

  6. Horrible Service.

Do not pick Midwestern Van Lines. They are awful to work with. They gave us a great veteran discount and were easy to work with until after they picked our stuff up. The price went up twice after they picked it up. Our stuff stayed in WA and was finally delivered a month later. They hired two guys off Craigslist to help unload our stuff and during the process they stole our 65in TV and multiple other boxes were missing. They damaged several pieces of furniture and even tried to give us someone else’s bed. In the end they tried to give us $75 for everything and we refused. I recommend a company where you pack it yourself and it gets transported in a trailer with no one else’s stuff.

  7. Scam - Lost Half Of My Items, Zero Reimbursement.

Original quote increased by $2000 after my things were loaded onto truck. Their reason was that I had more things than an average 2BR house. My belongings were 1 couch, 1 mattress/box, 1 table, 1 rug, 2 dressers, 1 TV, the rest cardboard boxes (~20 small/medium). I find it hard to believe this is less than the average 2 BR House - certainly does not warrant $2000 additional cost.

Workers were unprofessional, inappropriate, fighting/yelling with each other, & strangely were on the phone with their families on speaker phone the ENTIRE time. Their record keeping was basically nonexistent so throughout this madness I was double checking the box count and items loaded. They were 4 hours late on arrival and took 4-5 hours to pack everything up. On their way out they harassed me/demanded a tip - I felt obliged given they had all of my belongings hostage for the next 30 days.

Orchestrating delivery was unpleasant to say the least. Move in was scheduled for 6/1 (as that is when my new lease began). I received multiple calls and confirmations that my things would be delivered 5/28 or 5/29 and I MUST be there or I would incur a *delivery fee*. It was impossible for me to be there as I was not currently in the state I was moving to, nor did my lease start then - this was extremely stressfully as again I was told my things must be unloaded then. After speaking with ~10 people, exchanging 50+ calls/texts with "managers", the move-in was eventually changed to 6/2 (still incorrect and inconvenient but doable considering).

Upon delivery, the workers (different this time and much friendlier and professional) acknowledged the poor record keeping and that that was common. They unloaded what they had and there were 9 boxes entirely missing and several boxes were completely destroyed/falling apart leading to multiple plates, dishes, glasses being broken. I have never received my 9 missing boxes (nor have I heard from anyone from the company directly). Filing a claim is an absurd process that uses a 3rd party and contains hundreds of forms/steps. I completed all of these steps and after 9 months, my claim was determined to be settled for $100 - which to this day I have not received.

Avoid this company at all costs. For the amount of money I ended up paying I could have purchased new items. If you must use a moving company, avoid avoid avoid. Scam company from start to end. There's a reason their quote is appealing - SCAM.

  8. Immeasurably, Horrifyingly Stressful, Life-Changingly Terrible.

My original quote indicated that the cost for the shipment, including all fees, would be $5,967.21. This included packing, pickup, temporary storage, and delivery. This cost was determined by the carrier's estimation software, where I went through my house and which items were to be packed/shipped

After my belongings were packed in the truck, the courier rushed me through the paperwork before I could provide informed consent. I was shocked that the amount I was to be charged was $11,146. Furthermore, I noticed that the courier had filled out certain parts of the form that it was designated that I (the customer) would provide. On the Valuation Addendum on the paperwork, I was presented with two options for "the carrier's liability for loss or damage to your household goods." The first option was Full (Replacement) Value Protection, and the courier indicated that it would cost $20,000 just for the insurance coverage, so I declined. The second option was for Minimal Protection at 60 Cents Per Pound, which I chose. This section indicates that I should have been provided a copy of "Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move" brochure as well as the "Dispute Settlement & Arbitration" brochure providing information, and I did not. Lacking this vital information, I was at a disadvantage in appropriately documenting my lost/damaged/destroyed belongings in precisely the way that was required in order to file a claim for damage.

I paid for the courier to pack the items, and under the General Agreement Clause it indicates that the courier is responsible for the condition of the contents of cartons packed by the company. However, on the "Bill of Lading Contract," it says that "All damages and missing items must be noted on the inventory logs," meaning that I would have had to evaluate every single item. As soon as the items were off the truck (many items left in driveway), the courier indicated that per the contract, I was to sign the paperwork IMMEDIATELY, and that I could go back and add items that were lost/damaged in shipment and storage when I filed my claim AFTER I signed. Despite my objections and inability to find the clause in the contract which showed this, they went from urging me to complete the paperwork to relentlessly berating me to sign the form. They pressured me into signing the contract before I could make any reasonable assessment of the condition of my belongings (or even which items were missing), therefore relinquishing any claims for items which were not listed as damaged as the courier was bringing the items in. As an additional note, nowhere in any agreement is there a provision for the courier forgetting to list an item on the inventory log and subsequently becomes lost, which happened in my case.

I meticulously evaluated and cataloged all of the lost/damage/destroyed items. This detailed list included repair quotes, a multitude of pictures, original receipts, replacement receipts, and weights. Precisely 5,232 pounds of my items were lost/damaged/destroyed. Per the contract, the compensation for this should have been $3,139.20 at 60 cents per pound. After submitting my claim, the settlement offer that I received was $78, based on only 130 pounds.

I feel as though MidWestern Van Lines took advantage of me, and pressured me to make decisions without informed consent which unilaterally worked in their favor. Most of the phone numbers which they originally provided me were disconnected, and I have found it precisely impossible to reach anybody which could even provide me information. The representatives which I have spoken to, both at Midwestern Van Lines as well as MovingClaims.net, have provided me with conflicting or even incorrect information, leading to confusion and uncertainty which, once again, tilts the scales in their favor. This entire ordeal has left me emotionally drained, brought me to the brink of bankruptcy, and a severe diminishment of faith in humanity as a whole.

  9. Zero rating!

Cost was WAY over estimate, delayed delivery, delivery came on two separate dates with short notice. Poor communication, repeated promised call-backs that never happened. Items arrived broken, wet, and we are missing two flatscreen TVs. They were listed on our inventory, loaded on van, where are they? As recourse, we were offered movingclaims.com, which requires serial numbers, dates of purchase and owners manuals for electronic items. Just when we thought nothing else could go wrong, it did. This company was consistently bad. I will say the probably low wage workers packing/moving the furniture were fine.

  10. Move from Ks to Fl.

TERRIBLE!! They overcharged us for the cubic feet we moved. We took photos to prove they had not filled the trucks to the capacity they claimed. We tried on numerous occasions to give them the chance to do the right thing. I.e. Honor the contract that stated we would only be charged for the cubic feet moved. They ignored us. We even took them to court and the judge agreed. We had no choice but to use them as we had already paid the deposit and needed to move that day to get to our new location. They are beyond reprehensible. They are extremely convincing in how professional they are and how much better they are. THEY LIE!! The will tell you they have all their own trucks and employees. THEY DON'T! Our trucks were rentals and our drivers admitted to being contractors. We have moved 8 times since we have been married and have NEVER had a worse experience.

  11. Crooks Midwestern van lines.

This company are crooks Simon took my estimate never sent me hard copy, took $1960 from me I have a witness to him lieing on the phone stated he could move my 40ft container sold my house he new it needed to be done asap 5 months later dispatch an him lied they never intended to move my stuff, I have lost over $150,000.00 all my stuff my container. I'm hiring a lawyer if any body else has same kind of complaint let's go after them together, Tabatha May Law look me up on Facebook or messenger we can higher a lawyer an sue them an shut them down for good.Simon is a Crook Dispatch also crook they cancelled my contract then said I did took my money my house sold container not moved I lost all my stuff of 50 years.

  12. Crooked company needs to be shut down.

They are crooked and need to be shut down. They packed up our belongings which they did a well job. They gave us a date when our delivery would arrive. The driver called and said what time they would arrive. That day came and they never showed. Days went and we had no contact. We called the company and had no answer. Message after message left for day after day and no reply. 4 days later we receive a call from the driver saying they are an hour out. They arrive in a different truck. They open the truck and our belongings are falling from the truck. Boxes smashed open, furniture thrown every which way fishtank broken glass everywhere. They had no explanation. They unpacked our belongings on wet ground and snow. They unloaded heavy boxes on top of small boxes crushing them. Every piece of furniture was destroyed. Our empty safe was tampered with and would no longer open for us. Our attorney sent letters and phone calls and we have never had a reply.

  13. Midwestern Van Lines.

Do not use this company. Horrible experience. Started with a gross underestimate of cost of the move by 60%. Then failed to come on agreed pickup day. Moving agent would not answer phone or return emails. Movers showed up a day late (Saturday) and was undermanned. Worked for a half a day and took Sunday off. When asked when they would return they said they would have to check with dispatch. Came back mid afternoon Monday and halfway finished job. Again, did not know when they could come back and finish but asked for the 2nd installment. I had to refuse to pay them to get them to comeback and finish packing out on Tuesday. When it came time for delivery dispatch provided as little information as possible but insisted that final $10,000 payment be made by post office money order or CASH before delivery even though they had conflicting final payment information in their moving documentation. Bottom line is horrible communication after they took the first installment. STAY AWAY if you can.

  14. Heartless thieves.

These guys are criminals. They stole my $800 deposit. They don't return phone calls and they act like everything is an issue. They have a lot of excuses to not get things done and then they just dropped out of existence. I call and get no answer and no calls returned.

  15. This company is horrible, no customer service.

This company is quick to offer service, seemingly at decent price.
However, delivery dates are completely unreliable, I gave them narrow window of when I needed items delivered to new home and they jerked me around for days. Once they have your money, then forget about anyone calling you back. I have made at least 3 calls a day and have been promised multiple times there would be a supervisor calling me back. NO CALL BACK,
Told the office that I needed property delivered by certain date since after that date no one would be here to accept delivery and their answer was they "can't guarantee delivery date".

When I told them that if they can't property to me by certain day that I would have to cancel- they told me I was in breach of contract and still owe them all monies despite never delivering property to destination.
Unethical, unreliable, no customer service standards. How they get to list themselves as "best in the midwest " is beyond my comprehension.
