  1. Did not deliver furniture to my apartment

The representatives purposely underestimated the space our furniture would take up on the truck so they can quote you a lower rate than you will pay and understated the likelihood of it take over a week to get our things delivered to our new apartment. They will not call you two days prior to when their truck will arrive as they should. The delivery took 3 weeks from when they picked our furniture up.

The absolute most absurd part was when they refused to enter my new apartment complex because the driver didn't want to damage his truck. Although, I did speak to our complex and they had trucks 53 to 60ft inside of our complex. I told the driver this and he still refused. The driver also lied to me about a cop pulling him over and telling him he cannot enter the complex. I know because I was on speaker phone when the cop talked to him. The driver then told me I had to buy a Uhaul for the day so they could deliver my things. By the time I had bought the Uhaul he charged me an extra $165 for "making him wait" while we drove to Uhaul and I bought a truck. How could I be so inconsiderate? The driver also told the Uhaul employee to wait 20 minutes for his truck to be parked in the Uhaul lot and she said that wasn't ok. He told her, "It's 20 minutes, you'll live".

After I rented the Uhaul, the movers loaded my things into the Uhaul, only after I paid them a money order or cash (they don't accept any other form, which is a massive red flag now that I know). The driver then told me he was not going to deliver the furniture to our apartment as per the contract because it was voided when he "couldn't" enter the complex. He said it would be an extra $400 for him to deliver now. So I used the remaining hour I had with the Uhaul moving my own furniture in. I found most boxes to be crushed and 5 out of 7 plastic tubs to be cracked and broken at the handles. And our $890 couch leg was broken at the base where it connects to the couch and cannot be replaced. The assistant manager I talked with, denied the driver did anything wrong after I told her about this experience. She proceeded to hang up on me because the conversation "wasn't productive".

    Never trust this company.

  2. Delivered black mold and pests

Worst experience of my life. They completely destroyed everything I own. All items arrived drenched in muddy, reeking water, mildewy, and filled with maggots. It was the most disgusting and depressing thing I've ever seen.

When they opened the door of the truck I could see that all boxes were completely crushed. It took me a minute to realize none of these were the original boxes. Our stuff had been removed from their carefully packed boxes and thrown haphazardly into random moving boxes. Probably because the original boxes had eroded to nothing. Even my carefully packed furniture had been completely unpacked and wrapped in black trash back instead. Bureaus were so water logged that, when I tried to open them, the wood just crumbled into pieces. And like all the furniture and mattresses, they were covered in black mold. The movers didn't even want to bring the stuff inside because it was so disgusting, so they left everything in the garage, and thoroughly washed their hands after touching all that.

As we attempted to sort through the boxes looking for anything salvageable, we realized that our items were affectively composting, being eaten apart by tiny insects.

Of course, they collected all the money before showing us the disastrous mess - which, by the way, was about $2000 move than the original estimate of $4000! They raised the price because they cannot drive an 18 wheeler into San Diego, which is mysterious because the stuff was never loaded into an 18 wheeler and the final destination was always San Diego. They also claimed that we had more stuff than originally estimated, even though we actually sold many large items that were included in the original estimate and tediously measured everything we had before they moved to make sure we were under capacity.

And now I have to hire people to take all this stuff to the dump, deal with any bugs and mildew that made it into the house, and begin the grueling, lengthy claims process, which so far has consisted of a horrific conversation with dispatch where the lady blamed God for delivering black mold and insects to my house, which she admitted they knew about a month before delivery and chose not to inform me until after (meaning after I paid the final $2013 when they arrived at my home with the mold delivery).

This company should not be allowed to operate.

  3. You have been warned

Be very careful hiring them, if you do, be prepared for a bait and switch tactic, an increase of about 50% from the originally quoted amount, if you think you are smart you'll fail, they have many methods, they are best at this! Especially if you hire them for packing. Also, different names every time you call or email, we worked with Cheryl Robin, Luz Robles, Tracey Romero.

  4. The WORST mover ever

Move from Bronxville, NY to San Jose CA. They don't explain things well about delivery window of 7-21 days will start from date of first available delivery. Customer service is the WORST -- talked to a manager and the manager of a manager both of whom lack basic customer service/obsession training; they just don't give a damn about the customer's concerns. If I could give 0 stars, I would. Don't ever go with this mover. Absolute worst.

  5. Avoid at all cost

Avoid like the plague. These guys are running a bait and switch scam. The sales guy " William" will bait you into thinking your things will get there quickly. He actually told me my stuff was on a popular route and shouldn't take more than 1 week. The quote you sign at the beginning of this process clearly says you will receive your things within 14 days if in the East coast. When the movers pickup up your things and as well upcharge you for taking up more space, they give you a new contract that 21 days for delivery is handwriting into it and in the fine print there's also a 21 days delivery estimate. At the point in which this was handed to me I had no choice but to sign and clearly I was exhausted from the 4 hours of moving things so they can put in their truck.

It's been 3 long weeks and I still have not received my things. Avoid at all cost!!!! When you call in everyone is hostile and William will never speak to you again after you sign that contract.

  6. Good Job

I had the best moving experience with North Van Lines. The rep was helpful throughout the process and the men who picked up and dropped off my stuff were quick and professional. I have already recommended this company to a friend.

  7. Nightmare move front beginning to end!!!!! Rate a 0 if I could

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! They are the biggest scammers. My discussion with William B (Senior Sales) was in great detail and he left a bunch of stuff off the list. Initial quote was 7,000 and it went to over 18,000. I attempted 4 times to fix issue to no avail. I sent a message with no reply. So I called. I called a lot and 3 sales guys told me don't worry everything will be ok at the end. Ok for who? North Vanlines that's who. The sales guy was the one that gets you in to this hostage move situation. Then dispatch treats you terribly and very unprofessional by calling me a lier. My husband was in the car with me when I called the police dept to see if they were a legit company. The police confirmed that they were a business but had bad reviews. I said yes I see that now. They called and played back a message to me where the police told them I did not call. Ive been told that whole area of New Jersey is crooked. My dad had me concerned that I may not see my stuff again. Well I will tell you it was a very emotional sad day to say the least when my antiques, and home goods arrived broken and the mover they hired was an independent contractor named Tim P (which will be reported). He was very unprofessional, childish , and very rude. I had my own crew there and it made him very angry because he was not going to get his long hall fee money. He called me 4 days out and kept changing the time. We started at 11:20am and ended 13 hrs later 12:38AM. He was so rude and had tempers all day. He threw his dolly out the back of the truck and broke it. He also started using my 100 yr old dolly and I told him no he could not do that. He got upset. Threatened to leave and I told him I would have him arrested for theft if he did. He left all the tape and trash in my storage unit to include a banana peel. I took banana peel back outside and threw it in his truck. He was so unprofessional I was shocked . He kept singing to upset me, singing over and over "tape in the storage room love it love it love it. Called me a Karen. Said no wonder your name in Karen. I had to call the police twice. My cousin, a town detective so I had my basis covered. So this guys moving crew does not show up and he has his best friend helping him and he is not a professional mover but he was nice (Ryan) . They had me leave the money orders blank and aIthough that was odd, but they would not unload until I paid. When the driver called me he told me to have plenty of cash on hand. I did not have him deliver to my apartment so he got only 160.00 and he was expecting probably 6 to 800. fooled him I had my own crew to do my apartment. They screwed me out of enough money as it was. Dispatch had the nerve to tell me it was my fault that I did not get the issue fixed prior to pick up. I tried to tell them that I tried. William B (sales) along with all these other reviews is a scam company. Its a shame that these people are still in business. Sure wish I would have reviewed the company before I hire them. I wish I could share my pictures and videos but they are on my phone. This company probably has people go on and have friends leave a good rating to try to keep their number up. Too bad channel 12 wont do a story on this company. I will try to get through all my storage stuff but they packed it in till it was leaning. I'm sure there is stuff missing because they tried to give me other person stuff and I said not its not mine and someone will be missing it. Considering a court move due to everything that has happened. All my friends that were there could not believe the driver. He took down lines on my street and did not care a bit. said he has done it before and will do it again. Please pass the word and do not get this company confused with North American Vanlines, two completely different companies. The worst thing is they tore my old house up by sliding bin acrossed my floors and scratching them. Big chunck out of wall, fence and framing around front door. I have never not tipped but due to the damage I did'nt, they were upset so Im convinced that stuff was damaged on purpose. Some you could tell was intentional and if you could see my videos on how they unloaded my very expensive furniture and lawnmower you would cringe. I could say so much more but I would give them a zero rate if I could. My move was from NJ to IN and was 18,000 plus:(

  8. Horrible experience

Don't use this company. They charged me 1,000 stating I have more items. It was few extra boxes. They picked up my stuff and disappeared....1 email with my balance. Took stuff January 4,today January 16,no schedule, when called to find out they were very rude. Respect your self, stay away.

  9. I don’t know how they still have a business

    DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!

Dave my salesman assured me best price, he'd beat any price. He also told me move cost is based on weight, as all movers do. After going over items I received two quotes, I had two large items I wasn't sure we were going to bring. I was fine with both and knew it would be a little more because we had a bunch of boxes.

Movers showed up on time, in an unmarked truck. My husband and I immediately questioned the size of the truck for our move, in-fact my husband told the 'foreman' it wouldn't fit. . Foreman came in to see all of our items that we were going to move. We were still finishing up packing boxes and he assured me his guys would help me no problem (we have infant twins).

After going over our items the foreman let us know he was also supposed to do a second pick up on the same truck! Based on the info our salesman had provided him he had us at 1100 cubic feet. Which btw we were now paying per cubic foot-not weight! He did his calculations, said he'd probably have to get another truck, and the price went from approx $6,000 to over $12,000!!! No joke. And that was with him not charging us for extras.

It was 8:30 and the offices were not open. I left two voicemails, one for Dave and one on a generic line. The foreman said he'd get in touch with dispatch as well. He said he'd stop at the other job which wasn't too far away and come back when we heard from the office.

It's 3:30 and NO ONE EVER EVEN HAD THE BALLS TO CALL US BACK! Thanks Dave Massey and North Van Lines, you saved us money and heartache as we are now using a well known reputable company for half your price!

Word to anyone shopping, our current mover said NO reputable company provides FREE storage for your move. It's a gimmick and they tie the labor cost into the move just like what happened to us. Also you are supposed to pay by WEIGHT, not cubic footage. Stay FAR away from this company or you WILL get ripped off.

Lastly, when my husband went to get the mail there was a water bottle filled with piss on our driveway. Real classy!

  10. Antagonizes and demeans customers

I could say a lot, but my opinion isn't important. Read this email from their COO, Meme El Bakry:

    "M. E.

    Hello,

My name is Meme, Chief Operating Officer of North Van Lines. Sorry for the delayed response, I've had a few less important things to do first before responding to your email. Allow me to take this time to respond with some fun facts, unlike the nonsense in the correspondence from L****** and M*****. I'll address you both separately.

    M******,

Who are you? Actually, we don't care! You are not a customer of North Van Lines.

    L*******,

Guess what today is? It's Friday! Guess what's NOT going to happen today? You WON'T be getting a refund! Just like William informed you via email and over the phone, you have requested to change the destination as well as the inventory list by adding a ton of additional items. Did you really believe you can attempt to violate the contract you already signed by changing the inventory and then claiming its VOID! Reality check, you are still under contract with North Van Lines and you are still responsible to honor that contract. The estimate you electronically signed upon your move reservation will never become VOID unless YOU cancel your move. You did not cancel in the required timeframe to receive a refund. You thought you can play this game and trick us but Ma'am we are not a hole in the wall company and we have an amazing team that can't be tricked or intimidated. North Van Lines operates in compliance with the rules and regulations of the US Department of Transportation and the Federal Motor Carrier Saftey Administration. Another fun fact, we have recorded calls, or did you forget. You thought "M***" can help you! The "Attorney" (hey "M***" did you see what I did there with the quotation marks? I hope this upsets you) that you speak of needs to find another career as this is the worst advice one can give. What your "Attorney" aka "M***" should've told you is that what you both have sent to us in writing falls under what the Law calls EXTORTION! Which is illegal and punishable by law. You thought you can threaten to defame our reputation with lies if we do not give you money!!! Are you out of your mind to think that would work? It is quite amazing how much personal information can be found by paying $1 online and by only having a name and an email (Yes I am talking about you, "M***"). Based on "M***s" email I guess we also can go online and post reviews about "M***" and his services. Based on what "M***" said apparently, you don't need to get service to trash a company online so we too can play this game. In fact, we too feel that all potential clients that need legal counsel should stay clear from your "Attorney" as he'd probably make things 10x worse for them i.e L*****. We will take action against the BOTH of you if ONE false statement is posted by either one of you or anyone you know to ANY 3rd party! Why didn't "M***," tell you to dispute the payment?! I'll tell you why, because you WILL NEVER win that dispute once we send in our evidence confirming your fraudulent behavior.

Let me make this very clear to both of you! We are not intimidated, scared, worried or even feel a slight alarm from anything the both of you combined can do. I assure you for every action there will be a greater reaction as we will vigorously protect our reputation from frauds like you both that think they can extort a company out of money by threatening their reputation. We look forward to the false complaints so we can respond with FACTS such as call recordings of Lisa REQUESTING the changes followed by legal action for damages due to libel defamation.

Back to "M***" CEASE AND DESIST ALL COMMUNICATION OR FRAUDULENT ATTEMPTS OF EXTORTION. Further communication after this formal request to Cease and Desist will be considered harassment as per N.J.S.A 2C:33-34 (isn't that the right code "M***") and further incidents of this type will be reported to appropriate authorities. You're lucky we haven't reported you yet. But no worries, our legal team is CC'd to this email and they already have everything they need to proceed, if necessary.

FINALLY and MOST IMPORTANTLY, William Bettler, on behalf of North Van Lines we thank you and would like to commend you on your hard work and congratulate you on becoming OCTOBER's Employee of the Month

    Regards,

    Meme El-Bakry

    Chief Operating Office

    North Van Lines, Inc."

Super classy, right? Caveat Emptor. Steer clear of North Van Lines.

  11. Horrible Experience.

We recently used North Van Lines to move from NYC to North Carolina. The process started out well, the booking agent was very responsive and updated quotes when we went through the large amount of furniture and belongings to move. This started out as a good experience, we got our updated quotes and decided that this was the company to go with.

Do not make the same mistake we did - look elsewhere.

The movers showed up, about 13 staff and began wrapping furniture and moving boxes into the two trucks that arrived. Started great and quickly went down hill. Backstory - all of our boxes were clearly labeled for their destination and ancillary stickers like HEAVY and FRAGILE to assist the movers.

    - Stickers disregarded

    - My wife and I intervene several times as the movers were flipping over FRAGILE boxes and packing them on the bottom of the truck and throwing HEAVY boxes on top.

    - Furniture was quickly wrapped and they dismantled furniture to 'save on space'. We thought this was great to cut down on square footage and the contract we signed was to pack and REASSEMBLE furniture when it arrived

    - Several more conversations about carelessness with fragile boxes, furniture not being wrapped together and not to mention the carelessness of their move of the larger items.

    - The house we were leaving suffered plaster damage, baseboard damage, stair damage and some HUGE scratches on the floors. All of which I had to then repair.

    - Given a new quote at 33% higher for the two full trucks, oh when it arrived it only fit into 1 and 1/3 trucks so I am not sure how we paid for the two full truck square footage that was poorly loaded to receive trucks with only 2/3 the capacity.

After multiple weeks truck one arrives at 1 PM, two guys and no equipment to work (no hand trucks, no box cutters, no tools) truck two apparently broke down and was going to be 5 hours behind them as they reloaded onto another truck.

    - This first crew was great, very professional and handled packages with care - after I ran to Lowes and bought a hand truck on our dime.

    - my wife and I had to step in and help to try to get this done in a reasonable amount of time with limited men.

    - half of the boxes were damaged, and even some of the hard plastic storage totes were cracked or crushed. I know the truck crew did not load the boxes and this was probably the loading crew back in NY but we were unhappy and they were at least empathetic.

    - We were all done by 5PM and they said the other truck had 4 guys and all the furniture (Truck 1 was all our boxes), so they would unload and rebuild. We thanked them and waited for truck 2.

    - Several calls on the truck and they arrive, at 8:39 PM. When I asked about the lateness and my concern of them not finishing until too late, dispatch assured me they have 4 guys and will get it done in under two hours. Well truck 2 had 2 guys, no hand trucks, no dollies, no box cutters, and no tools - tell me how do you reassemble furniture with no tools.

    - This team was completely unprofessional. I understand it was a long day for them with their truck breaking down and having to reload all the materials, but that is not on us nor the job. Put that behind you and get to work.

    - They spent the time arguing with each other, several smoking breaks and one of them was visibly sick and did not wear a mask - no matter how many times we asked them to put masks back on, they kept removing them every time they left our sight. Again my wife and I started carrying the furniture in and getting it done for them as they didn't seem to care about moving in any hurry or being careful with our belongings. Again a crew that was careless, scratched our floor in the entry way as they tried to drag furniture as we had to remind them to lift it. We finished unloading the truck around 11:40 PM and asked about them putting the furniture together to which they replied we don't know how to do that.

Long story to get to the point of go with another company as we are currently fighting North Van Lines to get our money back for services not rendered as well as multiple broken pieces of furniture and damaged boxes.

  12. North Van LIES.

My company was moving me so I began to look into movers. During the process we were finding apartments and signing contracts internally and I was budgeting my move. I called and got 3 quotes North Van was 1. The sales person was friendly at the time and explained that my house which is 800 sq ft. can be packed up and shipped for under $5000.00. All dressers would be wrapped up with items left inside and the guys would pack everything and it would be unpacked in CA. White glove service she called it. I loved the idea because during this move I still had to work. I went with van lines. I gave the most detailed moving list known to man because I had a budget and I had them requote me three times. Cheryl says no problem and let me know if you have any issues. Sign the paperwork with the okay from the company. THIS WAS THE LAST TIME I HEARD FROM CHERYL. Enter in the RUDE, UNPROFESSIONAL AND GHETTO SIDE OF THE COMPANY. I get a call from the dispatcher claiming he is on the way for 12pm. 2pm rolls around and no one has shown. 2:30pm I get a call and he is outside. He tells me to come and look at his truck because it’s full & can’t fit my items. Day wasted!

Next day they show. They will attempt to distract. IF YOU DECIDE TO STILL USE THEM FROM THIS REVIEW, WATCH THEM LIKE HAWKS. They start packing and I notice they start unpacking my draws. I tell them stop and that Cheryl said they would take the whole thing. THEY ARE TRYING TO MAKE THE PRICE GO UP. I was only taking 1 bedroom of my 732sq home that was 3 bedrooms/ 2 baths and all of a sudden it turned into 950sq space taken in the truck which is double what they quoted.

I’m livid at this point because my budget was 5k. The price is now a couple of dollars from 7k. Red flags I saw was them trying to multiply everything while I told them to stuff the boxes and the fact that the mover came in automatically talking about a corporate move. At this time with the overage I called my company pissed and they said moving companies LIE. I called on 8/17 and told the dispatch I could accept delivery as early as 8/24. She said fine and send an email. I send the email and receive no answer. I call and a girl w/ a tude says wait for the email. I followed up and I get an email with the balance due at delivery. No details. 8/24 comes and goes. I decide to call and said hey I said I can get delivery and I haven’t heard anything. All of a sudden I get another tude from girl# 2, she states that they don’t have to ship it and they don’t ship the order until the date you list. BEWARE. This was not how this was explained by Disappearing act Cheryl. I told them fine if this is the case my stuff should have at least been packed on 8/24 and it’s 8/31 and I have no notification. They said when it’s packed I will be notified. My items left Sept 5th. The driver isn’t employed with North Van Lines, they state it’s their own trucks and drivers. LIE! I tell him I think an 18 wheeler can fit where I live in San Francisco because I’m by the water. It is now September 11th and he calls stating he can deliver tomorrow and the shuttle will be $712.50. Sales said it would be $400Let’s rewind to the sales conversation where she said the shuttle is minimum $400. The 712 was automatic. They did not attempt with the large truck. They also haven’t attempted with the 18 wheeler and automatically want to charge even more for a shuttle.

I get a call from a no caller ID and it’s dispatch. This rude person Cindy is on the line with an automatic attitude stating that they have a shuttle. I said Cindy how does a shuttle go from $400 to $712. Attitude Cindy says do you have you email in front of you. I said Cindy I know it says minimum but where is the cost breakdown. She states in tiny letter that they charge $.75 per cubic feet for the shuttle. I said well you haven’t attempted to deliver with the 18 wheeler. She said my driver said he is using a shuttle and that’s what you are going to get! Or we will put your stuff in storage and you can get it yourself. Mind you I paid for them to unpack and that didn’t happen either.

  13. Deceitful Business Practices.

I would give it a zero star if I could. Deceitful business practices! My estimate for a long distance move was grossly under estimated so I got suckered in and after they loaded the truck and they had me, the price almost doubled. I had no choice but to proceed because I had to vacate the premise that day and now I have to sue. I kid you not, literally caught with my pants down. And when my stuff got to Florida, every box was damaged and many damaged items. Might have been done on purpose. Consumer Beware.

  14. CT to CA.

They tell you everythings included on the sales call and then nickle and dime you, completely against their word. These people tried charging me a covid19 cleaning fee, yet their drivers show up with no masks, getting right up on me, and touching stuff in my house with no regard. Then they scratched my floors and claimed it was my responsibility to tell them to use caution. Didn’t know I gave them license to damage my floors. One and done for me. Good luck to whomever chooses to use these slimeballs.

  15. The Worst !

Nitureas the worst experience EVER !!

I could have rented a dumpster and just trashed all my own stuff.

They literally ROLLED our furniture and boxes across the lawn and into the house !

    EVERYTHING was broken.

Our Mom had just passed and I wanted to move my Sister her andmy Mom's belongings to Texas.

I'm 68, my Sister 63 and we had to move our own furniture and boxes into the house ourselves to keep the "movers" from ROLLING our belongings.

No money can replace the damage they did.

All my Sisters belongings and our Mothers memories SMASHED !

Boxes of broken dishes and memories, broken furnature is what we got for $7600 !

They ROLLED, end over end a desk, hutch, island, dressers and all the boxes.

My Sister hasn't stopped crying. Every memory of our Mother destroyed !! All her belongings destroyed and for this we had to pay $ 7600.
