  1. Terrible.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. I paid them a deposit in good faith only to find their phone number had been disconnected when I got ready to move. Kept my money and did nothing to earn it. You will regret having any involvement.

  2. New Jersey to Charleston Nightmare.

I've moved numerous times throughout my career and this has been, BY FAR, my worst experience. I strongly urge anyone reading this to find another mover!

NS arrived two days late for pick up, then did not deliver all of my furniture for 30 days. What should have taken and was agreed to take 3-5 days took 30+ days. What I didn't know was our furniture was delivered to a central warehouse in Philadelphia, then subcontracted to three separate movers, who tried to upcharge me, or who wanted to leave everything in one room.

Numerous boxes never arrived, beautiful antique furniture came cracked, mirrors were shattered, my liquor box was raided.

I've already has this company's BBB bogus rating changed from A+ (which is why I hired them) to No Rating. I also filed a claim with CSI, but just found out that NS has also not paid CSI for services. This is just a bad company, which is why I am also strongly suspect any of any of their positive reviews. You've been duly warned. By the way, I also completely agree with Barbara Quinn's review. Greg S.

  3. The worst experience.

I would run and don't stop. The biggest rip off artist I have ever run into. They make promises and kept none. From start to finish. Now I have broken and torn furniture, packing tape on wood. They broke and ruined a teak table and chairs, that are now unusable. Tyler will sweet talk you to start and then never hear from him again. Alex lies to you from start to finish. The 3 men who picked up my furniture took more breaks then I even seen. My furniture is ruined and destroyed. We moved from Long Island to Virginia. Don't believe any reviews that tell you they did a good job because they are crooks!!

  4. Northern Star Movers do Not Use This Company.

We used this company to move from Florida to Michigan. I can only say run, turn away, forget you even seen their ad. They sweet talk you into a contract and once you make the deposit forget it you have opened the doors to a very bad experience. They OVER BOOKED my load I don’t own 4 couches. More money for them..They said they could move my riding lawnmower then when the “foreman” got to the job they can’t take it because it has gas fumes. The “foreman” was a disgusting pervert who kept hitting on me. I am probably 30 years older than him and they were a day late. They KNEW they had a 3bdrm 2bath house to pack (I paid dearly for this service that I tried to cancel because I packed my entire house)and they showed up at 3 in the afternoon to start. If I had not packed my house they would have been there for 2 days trying to pack everything. And I DID call 7 days before and let them know I did not need packing but I still had to pay for it “ because there was no record in Their system” that I called to cancel. Imagine that! The one and only customer service rep they have is Alex. She is the absolute rudest person I have EVER in my life had to deal with. She hangs up on you, yells at you. And it sounds like she sits in a bathroom because there is such an echo you can’t understand her. This woman has no business being a customer service rep. then I waited 2 weeks to the day to get my furniture. The driver told me they were going out of business. He had an old North American Van lines truck. He was ok to deal with but I couldn’t figure out how he was going to unload my stuff and carry it in by himself. Well they hired 2 guys off Craig’s list to come and move everything in and set it up. Wow is all I could say. Luckily both the guys worked for other movers and were just making some extra money. So the driver takes everything out of his truck and stacks it in my DRIVEWAY!! I have pics if anyone is interested All I can say is save yourself the hell I went they and do not call this company. If you do I can almost ensure you will regret it. We did. Again run away. RUN FAST.

  5. Professional moving company.

Not so many people enjoy the process of hiring relocation companies. Many people will admit that this is an arduous process; one that requires proper handling. If carried out appropriately, however, it is one of the most rewarding ventures. I was recently involved in relocation from Georgia to Maryland, and I can confidently say that my patience and keenness in choosing the ideal mover paid off. Prior to striking a deal, I took my time and carried out my homework. I was out to do my part without leaving the slightest room for failures. I first started my consulting my former colleague who had just gone through a relocation experience. He offered me a couple of recommendations. I also went through a couple of online reviews. When it was time to make the ultimate decision, I settled on Northern Star Moving Systems.

Why did you choose this relocation company? Someone might probably want to know. For one, I fell in love with their quotes. They were fair enough and reflected the standard markets rates. In fact, they were slightly so they bagged the first point. When I contacted their team to make inquiries, I had one of the most memorable experiences. I was met by a kind voice on the other side. The sales officer was so cooperative and friendly. She gave me time to ask all the questions I had. That's not all, however. She shot back the right answers, putting emphasis in key areas. By the time she was done, I was already looking forward to a thrilling relocation moment.

As it turned out, I was right placing my hopes on them. The team handled my relocation in the best of ways. They were really organized and willing to assist where necessary. The level of cooperation they displayed was simply out of the ordinary. From the first moment they stepped inside my compound to the last few minutes of the relocation process, they ensured everything was perfect. The process was so enjoyable. I saw them handle my properties with so much care. In fact, the relocation expert treated my belongings as if they were their own. It was amazing. They delivery services were top notch. They took a shorter time than I had anticipated.

I do appreciate the great support I received from this team. Their services were awesome, and I am so happy that I hired them out. I am so grateful because the movers were even courteous enough to get back to me after the relocation. They inquired how my experience was, and I was glad to share with them how satisfied I was and still am. If you are relocating in the next couple of days, I will personally recommend Northern Star Moving Systems.

  6. GA-CA Move.

Northern Star Moving Systems is nothing short of amazing! I wish I could give them more than 5 stars. I had originally booked another local moving company but they never showed up. I was in utter panic and gave Northern Star Moving Systems a call and they were more than willing to help me out in a desperate time. They took care of all my moving needs from extra boxes, packing supplies and a huge moving truck. Their customer service is fantastic from the people on the phones to the movers. All very friendly and knowledgeable. I wont hesitate to call them back again for my next move. In my opinion this is the best moving company around. You don't have to worry about hidden fees (like you do with other companies or when you do it yourself) and they just put your mind at ease which is great because moving is usually such a hectic and stressful situation. If you are looking for the best moving company in town call Northern Star you wont be disappointed.

  7. Great from start to finish.

I called and spoke with Tyler at Northern Star Moving Systems and he was great from start to finish. I explained to him I needed to relocate for work purposes and needed to move as quickly as possible. He was able to get all of my items picked up just a few days later with no extra charges. We went over all of the items I would be bringing and he gave me a fair price compared to the other companies I had been speaking with. He explained everything, and what to expect perfectly. I was given the customer service phone number, which is 24 hours and that was so relieving to know someone would always be there to answer my questions.

  8. Worst moving experience ever.

I don’t normally post like this but I want to spare others from my recent nightmare. Hands down the worst moving experience I have ever had. First..they said they would be there Monday morning. They showed up at 6 pm on Tuesday and finished late Wednesday night. They took so long that we packed up half our kitchen on our own, even though we paid to have them pack it. Of course they didn’t credit us for what we packed. When they did pack our house, they packed up things they were specifically asked not to pack, like my husband’s CPAP. Which means neither of us slept for the next two weeks because that’s how long it took them to get to our new house. There was absolutely zero communication from Northern Star about when they would get to our place or why it was taking so long, despite daily calls and voice mails, which were not answered and not returned 99% of the time. They finally got to our new place the day before I was starting my new job, and were there until 1 in the morning. They left half of our furniture and boxes in the garage, promising to return the next day and finish the job. They didn’t. When we unpacked we found an extremely shoddy job done packing, with over 20 items destroyed because they didn’t wrap them at all, or packed heavy boxes on top of boxes that were clearly marked fragile and couldn’t handle the weight. Worst, my initial quote was just under $10k, which was what my new company said they would cover. Then Northern Star kept adding and adding and adding, until the final cost was $16,792. And, in a very sketchy move, they added $1700 to my second to last quote without documenting anything on my receipt. I had no choice but to pay it because they had everything I owned and wouldn’t release it to me without a money order. Absolutely disastrous. Do not use this company. They have been a nightmare.

  9. Professional movers.

I don't know why anyone would use anyone else for moving. Moving is already a head ache so if you can hire professional movers swiftly and safely with all your belongs then why wouldn't you.

I want to start this off by saying Northern Star Moving Systems has helped me twice actually and keeps setting a hire standard for movers each time I use Northern Star.

So first time I used Northern Star Moving Systems I was pleased. I had a lot to move and it took much longer then expected. The movers did great but I ended up paying more then I would of liked. So because of that, the next time I moved I decided to find those cheap movers that say $59 or something crazy cheap like that. Well turns out they didn't even have wardrobe boxes or they didn't have the huge speedy box that helps so much that Northern Star Moving Systems has. But to top it off after the move with the cheap guys(not Northern Star) I found out that my whole knife set was missing and my tool box that they said they "thought" was theirs. I only got the toolbox back the next day but after fighting with them that it was mine.

I could go on and on about this but the moral of the story is I still end up spending the same amount because they charge little fees here and there with the cheap guys and aren't as efficient.

Go with these guys and if your lucky enough to get Northern Star Moving Systems then you know you will have a hard and honest worker which is hard to find these days. All around I give Northern Star and their crew 5 stars!! I would give 10 if I could but I just hope this helped you understand to go with the professional's because you will save money on the long hall.

  10. Polite And Fast!

My aunt used this company in June and had nothing but positive things to say so I tried them for my move. I requested an estimate and they came two days later. The gentleman was very polite and told me it would take 7 days to move me from a 3 bedroom townhouse to a 4 bedroom townhouse from South Carolina to Texas. I did get 3 other estimates which was almost the same pricing but I decided to go with Northern Star Moving Systems because I was referred to them.

That decision ended up being the BEST decision. I received a call in advance saying they would be there in 30 mins and they arrived promptly. Robert, Mike and Erick were POLITE and FAST! They packed up my home in four hours which included disassembling and wrapping all furniture.

When we arrived to my new home, they put down runners and I provided booties for them to wear (I have OCD when it comes to being clean) and I was throughly IMPRESSED they took off the booties to go the moving truck and put the booties right back on when they entered the home. They NEVER missed a beat. They worked without stopping and never complained when I asked them to move furniture to a different place because I couldn't determine how I wanted the room up.

In short, I was impressed with their professionalism, efficiency, and even smiled while moving. I was only telling them where things were going and I was exhausted lol. They worked non stop and finished two hours EARLY! Best of all, they did not scratch the walls or dent the floors. They were immaculate.

I was stressed with moving and they made it a breeze. I would definitely recommend Northern Star Moving Systems!

  11. Clearly, I made the right decision.

It's rare to find a product or service that completely surpasses your expectations, but Northern Star Moving Systems managed to do just that.

I had never used a moving company before because -- despite owning a ton of crap -- I never felt like I had a sufficient amount of crap to warrant the hiring of movers. However, faced with my second major move in as many years, I was starting to feel a bit like Sisyphus; only instead of a big-ass rock, I was lugging the same pieces of poorly assembled flat-pack furniture up and down stairs over and over again. More out of exasperation than any perceived value, I reluctantly decided to hire movers.

I had seen neighbors using Northern Star Moving Systems in the past and was impressed with how thorough they were in preparing and packing items. Watching them work was like watching someone play the best game of Tetris ever. Everything, wrapped in foam, cardboard, and tape, tucked neatly into perfect slots. Naturally, I figured they must have cost a fortune. (SPOILER ALERT: They were actually very reasonably priced)

So, basing my decision off of precisely one past experience, I requested an estimate from their website. This revealed one of my favorite parts of the Northern Star Moving Systems experience. The website suggested I would get a response back within the next day or so; imagine my surprise when, 30 minutes later, I had not only an e-mailed quote in my inbox but also a missed call and voicemail with the same. I generally consider myself pretty proactive about getting things done, but Northern Star was out aggroing me in this department (and I loved it). Even though the estimate and eventual agreement signing was all done over the Web (because who really wants to talk to another human anymore??), Northern Star Moving Systems agents checked in with me via telephone and e-mail at every step of the way about costs, scheduling, planning. etc. It might have been borderline annoying had it been mandatory, but, because they were mostly courtesy calls (that could be ignored if desired), it was a very nice touch.

On the day of the move, a squad of three movers (lead by the affable and capable Nick) showed up and quickly surveyed my place and things. I had given Northern Star a summary of items that would be moved, but cautioned them that the list was a bit fuzzy (due, in part, to me moving small items piecemeal, myself, in advance). I expected them to formulate a plan of action before jumping into the actual haulin'. Imagine my delighted surprise when one of the movers deftly grabbed and wrapped an entire dresser before delicately hoisting it and carrying it out to the truck. Like, maybe a full minute, maximum, had passed between "Hi, come on in,". This was clearly some next level action I was looking at.

For the next 45(!) minutes, I stood in the center of my place, mouth agape, as this trio wrapped, padded, packed, and stored my stuff. It's a weird feeling, because I've been doing this by myself for so long, but Nick & Co. were SO MUCH BETTER and faster than I could have ever been. Clearly, I made the right decision.

The only bit of saltiness I have is directed toward myself for not having used Northern Star Moving Systems in the past. When I moved myself previously (other truck rentals), I ultimately ended up spending three times as much time and money, all for the privilege of wrecking my back. Northern Star Moving Systems is definitely the better way to go.

  12. Judge for yourself.

I don't want to say this will be your experience with them but here are some facts from my move.
As for me, if I could, I would give negative stars. My specialist was James, the office representative was Lynn, and manager was Chris.
Here are answers to some of my questions I had for James prior to the contract, what actually happened, and my interaction with the manager.
-James said I would be able to contact him whenever throughout the move until I was happy with my belongings in my new place.
After signing the contract, he was nowhere to be found. I did speak to him one time after signing when he said he never received my emails and that the extension stamped in his email signature wasn't correct. He gave me his cell phone number - never answered or called back.
-James said no, they do not hire third party contractors to move our belongings. From pickup to drop off, it would be their movers in their Northern Star Moving trucks.
Upon pickup, yes, it was their movers and truck but upon dropoff it was a third party mover.
-James said our belongings would not be mixed with other people's belongings on the truck. Our belongings were stickered with pink tags upon pickup to avoid the mixing of other people's belongings. Upon drop off, our things were mixed with another person's belongings who also had pink stickers, so at one point the movers were giving us another person's bike and boxes. We totally could have taken them. Also, we are missing a bin.
-James said the quote given to me would not change unless I requested that they hold my belongings longer than the free 30 days or if I added way more to my belongings. When going over the contract, he said the long haul and elevator fees would not apply to me because my things were being picked up from a storage unit on the 2nd floor and those fees were more for people in tall high-rise buildings. For pickup, I was charged $300 for the long haul fee ($75/50ft). So for dropoff I had to move my belongings myself to avoid the fees again, even though it was being moved into another storage unit.

My interaction with Chris (the manager) about this $300 fee - These are some of his responses.
"$300 is not a surprise, I could understand if it was over $1000 but it's only $300. Just pay it." - (when telling him that James said there would be no surprise fees)
"I am not going to argue with a customer over a small job" - (guess we were considered a small job since we were only moving a 1 bedroom apt).
"I am the manager. I am not in customer service so I do not need to speak to you in any kind of way so either pay the $300 or remove your things from our truck yourself" - (when I mentioned how stressful moving is and asked why he was speaking to me aggressively)

Note: Insurance is a third party so if you are missing anything or it's damaged you do not contact Northern Star Moving Company and apparently this third party company is not great. Still waiting to hear back about our missing bin.

If you still want to move forward with them, be sure to get everything in writing, in DETAIL and do not sign the contract if you do not agree with something. Even though I did all of that and it didn’t help much, maybe it'll help you somehow. Also, take your own DETAILED inventory of your belongings. Their version of inventory is writing "some boxes, some bins" and when dropping off asking YOU if you think that's everything.

    Goodluck.

  13. Do Not Use.

WORST COMPANY EVER. DO NOT USE THEM. Salesman, Sam, lied to us about the company having their own van line, they drastically underestimated the cost (original quote was under $7k), they didn't show up for pickup on time nor with their own trucks (they rented 2 Enterprise 26ft trucks) or the number of movers they promised, they couldn't finish loading in one day so they had to return next day which greatly inconvenienced our travel plans, the movers left some of our belongings behind, left their trash and cigarette butts all over, and just overall no respect for our stuff. Then when it came time for delivery, they didn't show up on the promised day, wouldn't call us back or give us an ETA on when we could expect it, charged over double of their quote because they unloaded the 2 rental trucks to put on a semi even though we told them not to so they upcharged for shuttling, our items sat in a warehouse for TWO WEEKS. We were forced to spend over $1500 on furniture and household items just so we could live in our new house until the trucks were delivered. When the trucks finally arrived there was EXTENSIVE DAMAGE to nearly everything. Boxes crushed and broken, all furniture was scratched and/or dented, items missing, many things broken and tossed around into different boxes when they broke them. The movers hired were so lazy that one of them quit halfway through because he wouldn't walk up a small flight of stairs. Everything about this experience with NorthernStar Moving Systems has been horrible, costly, frustrating, and downright unprofessional. I could go on about even more things that were wrong, but this post is already exhaustive. We will be filing an insurance claim and possibly a lawsuit. This company is a SCAM.

  14. Great Company.

This compan did a great job on our out of state move! The movers were nice and polite and did everything we asked them too.. thank you.
