  1. Buyer beware.

I too wish I would have heeded the advice of the other reviews. This company was definitely the cheapest estimate; they calculate by cubic feet, not by weight. Be careful - unless you are fully packed up and know how to measure in cubic feet, you are going to grossly underestimate your cost. Our actual cost was $1800 more than the estimate. This is not a professional company, the truck had no signand broke down somewhere in NC about a week after pickup. We then had to make other arrangements bc of the delay, (we were staying with family and waiting to close on a house), and when we couldn't accommodate the new delivery date, they were extremely confrontational and rude. Movers from another company made the delivery and our belongings had clearly been moved from truck to truck. Many broken items, dishes, scratched dressers, they ripped a corner of our couch, and I still can't find a bin with all my Christmas decorations. Also, the new company who delivered our items made the delivery at 8:00 pm, and we were trying to inspect our belongings for any damage, in the dark. Which was nearly impossible. We didn't save a dime and should have just gone with a reputable company that moves by weight. DON'T use this company. Run away.

  2. Movers Beware.

Alliance movers provided moving services from Hershey PA to Providence, RI. The packing was horrendous and the movers broke multiple dishes, a $750 desk, functionally ruined a Concept 2 rower, and gave false hopes of a an accurate drop off date.

The movers falsely estimated the “distance moved” rule. He estimated over 300 feet (first 75 feet is free) and I walked the distance myself using both “feet” (one stride length) and my Apple Watch, which came out to 145 feet.

I called him out on it and he essentially multiplied his step count by 2.5. He made no attempts to argue and quickly reduced it.

Where I have problems is that he did not give me an updated receipt which I need to file with my employer. I have contacted Gerard Polite 4x and on multiple occasions I did not receive single call back for 5 days.

I received an inaccurate invoice, noting that the last 40% was paid CASH, and yet they forged an invoice saying that it was paid by money order. This is important because now, I need to submit it to my employer and I don’t have a money order receipt BECAUSE I DID NOT OAY BY MONEY OFDER.

DO NOT USE THESE MOVERS. THEY WILL RUIN YOUR ITEMS AND ARE CARELESS, AND THEY COULD NOT CARE LESS.

  3. Avoid This Mover..at all cost.

I would heed the advice of many other reviews, only I wish I had.
I have moved 6 times and this experience could not have been any worse.
It started with an estimate walk around on the phone to give details of my household. After Lisa called back numerous times to "beat" any other quote, I was given the quote of $9,400 which seemed reasonable as I had move 18 months earlier for $10,200 and I was leaving behind several items including a pool table, couch, love-seat, entertainment center and a complete bedroom suite and other small items. So basically a similar quote for a recent move.
The problems began on the expected day of pack/move out arrival, the mover was due in the AM but showed up at 7.00PM with only one other person and a box truck vs. the expected 53" truck. The driver did a quick walk around and stated the quoted amount was way off as I would fill up 2 box trucks. The amount was now an additional $7,500 or $16,900. As I have sold the house and they would hold my belongings for 2 months I had no choice but to concede and write another check.
They stayed until the truck was full which was about 11pm. They would return the next day, they arrived mid-afternoon and stayed until 1.00am. The driver pointed on the paperwork that the price did not include a tip. A tip. Well I still gave them one anyway.

Upon selecting a closing date on my new house we arranged 3 weeks in advance our move in date with NorthStar. Our move date was scheduled for May 30th as we were closing on the 29th. A couple days prior they called and said the driver was available on 28th and could he come, we stated we could not get possession of the house until the afternoon on the 29th, they stated the driver would have to take another job. We called on the 30th mid morning to learn the driver may not be available until the 1st of June. Thus all of our belongings are on the truck and we had taken time off to move. After the driver did not show up on the morning of the first, I called and they stated his truck had broken down and may show up in the afternoon. No show/no call again that afternoon, after my follow up he would be there Sunday morning 6/2.
The driver showed up Sunday AM by himself and then local temp movers started arriving to help. The driver stopped in the driveway and stated he could not get into my driveway with his truck. He stated I would need to rent a box truck and also would need to pay an additional amount to move the goods the extra 100 yards from the road to the house. He stated it should be $3,400 additional but would settle for $2,400 if I rented the box truck (and use my pickup truck to speed up the process). So on a Sunday morning I had to find a box truck rental and go withdraw $2,400 cash (so he could pay the temps). Once again I had no choice but to take this additional fee.
He instructed the temp movers to put ALL the belongings in the garage and take off all the moving blankets so he could pack up and leave, while leaving the temps to finish the job!
The temps noticed several damaged items and pointed them out to the driver, he began to dispute this with them, including a heavily mildewed leather chair that had such a strong odor we could not put in the house. As soon as the truck was unloaded we had a garage and driveway full of furniture he asked me to sign the paperwork and handed me cash to pay the temps for 2 hours to stay and finish the job. The temps were all doing a nice job but stated they were berated by the driver and felt upset the way he spoke to them and embarrassed over the situation that occurred with the way the whole day unfolded.
So after all of this my $9,400 quote became $19,313 that I fully paid, more than double my quote.
To add insult to injury w/o the insurance the damage claim settlement amount is $229 for a damage leather recliner, Dining Room Hutch/Stand and table among other small items.
    Mover Beware!

  4. Do not ever use North Star Movers.

I never write reviews but this time I have to. This company made my move a nightmare. They have me a great quote and the day of the move they have doubled it. They have promised me that they will use their own trucks but it turned out they don’t have any large trucks and they outsource to companies without control over their schedules. My delivery was 10 days late. Their packing is very average and they don’t mark properly the boxes. It was a nightmare to figure out what should go where during the unloading. ISAAC and Michael are not honest. You will see their best face when they try to seek you their service. Once you pay part of the job and load the dirt it Ute they stop answering tour phone calls. This is the worst moving experience.

  5. Horrible experience.

Our movers arrived 3 days late- and there was no communication on this other than when we continually called to try to find out what was happening. We were given 2 separate arrival dates and neither of them were actually when the truck arrived. The truck finally showed up 3 days after we originally were told, causing us to have to restructure our relocation itinerary.

We tried contacting the representative who got our order set up and he never returned our calls, making us basically feel like all he cared about was getting our money and that’s that.

Upon the truck arriving, we were told we owed around 700$ more than first quoted. We obviously had no choice but to pay especially being already behind on our departure date.

While we were already en route driving across country, we received a call telling us we were being charged even more money and that it was due when the items arrived. Again, no option to do anything seeing as how we already were out of the state.

Our items showed up three weeks later, some things minoring damaged, and we wound up being charged roughly $2,000 dollars more than what our original contract stated.

Between the horrendous customer service, the horrendous pickup and delivery process, and then being charged an insane amount of money beyond what was stated on our original agreement, all in all the entire experience was awful.

  6. They deserve ZERO stars.

This company is dishonest and borderline criminal. I had a terrible experience from start to finish. Mark made guarantees that were not met. He assured me that the price would not increase significantly, but it nearly doubled on moving day because my estimated moving list was not 100% accurate. I went with Northstar because they assured me that the cross-country move would be completed in 10-14 days. They wrote 21 days in fine print on the contract - which they didn't show me until moving day, when it was too late to change. It actually took 31 days from pickup to delivery. I lived out of a suitcase and slept on an air mattress the whole time. When I called for updates, I was left on hold for extended periods of time and couldn't get a straight answer. They repackaged some of my items and saran wrapped a bunch of smaller boxes without asking. Then they tacked on a fee for packing and charged me for the supplies. When it was time for delivery (31 days later), they claimed they couldn't get their truck onto my street - in an average residential neighborhood - and charged another fee. When they were late, I called customer service and was told that someone would call me back to discuss a partial refund prior to the delivery. Didn't happen. I've called back several times since and keep getting the runaround. I've been told 3 different times that the manager will call me back. Take a guess whether that ever happened. This is the worst customer service I've ever experienced. I can't think of another purchase I have ever regretted more. It would have been cheaper for me to burn all my belongings in VA and spend my money replacing everything when I arrived in CA.

  7. Great Company.

The guys at Northstar Movers did my move from North Carolina to Florida and I could not be happier. I didn't know what to expect because I never used a mover but from the time I spoke to Mike, he made me feel comfortable and I hired him. The men he sent did a great job and Nelson was very polite. I appreciate everything and will pass the word. Thank you guys.

  8. Beware.

If I could give it no stars I would. I have never in all my 62 years on this earth dealt with such an incompetent customer service department. They were great to get your business, but when a problem occurred, it was a different story. I talked with so many people over the course of a month to try to see if they could find my moms boxes, and much to my dismay, I give up. I spoke with Ben, Isaac, another girl, I don't recall her name, who would not give me the supervisors name or number, and finally Lisa. Lisa made me think that she was going to help me. She said the owner David was going to make sure that they looked for the missing boxes, and that he would call me personally. Well needless to say, David never called, and the last time I spoke with Lisa, about how shocked I was at how poorly they have handled my situation, she didn't say anything, just forwarded my call to Isaac, who never answers the phone. I have a mom that is 87, and cries over her missed belongings. Shame on them. I will be putting this review on every site I can, not only to get out my frustration, but to hopefully avoid another persons disappointment.

  9. Highly recommended northstar movers.

I have to write a few things about northstar mover because I feel that those guys working hard to make you satisfied! Seriously! I’m very impressed from the second that they came in until the end. Great MOVERS!!

  10. Very Hard Working.

My mother and I just hired Northstar Movers for our move to Florida and everythign went great. We had a really good bunch of guys and they worked very hard. I was shocked on how quick they got everything done. Ryan was in charge and he really took good care of my mother and that's huge in my book. Thank you Northstar and thanks to Ryan and the guys.

  11. Stay FAR AWAY from this company!!

This was by far the worst moving experience I have ever had! This company is a complete joke.Let me start by saying I worked as a traveling RN for over 3 years and moved myself around the country without any hiccups.I finished graduate school and was moving from Columbus, Ohio to Phoenix, Arizona for a new position.I researched countless companies and got pricing for pods, movers, my own Uhaul, etc. After speaking with Michael (Senior Relocation Specialist) for over 30 minutes on the phone, I had a genuine feeling about him and this company and decided to hire them for my move. He stated I would receive multiple correspondences leading up to the move, during the relocation, and prior to delivery. They did take a large deposit over the phone at that time to 'secure the move' but it was completely refundable up to 3 days prior to the move date. I called the week of pick up since I was not contacted by the company since my deposit was given 2 weeks prior. I was told that I was scheduled for pick up on 5/30 and would be contacted by the drive. Well after multiple phone calls and emails on that Thursday, I was FINALLY contacted by the driver at 6pm after waiting 8 hrs for him to show up.He stated that the move prior to me took up too much room on the truck and they would have to go find another truck that could come around 9pm that night.I told them it was completely unacceptable.During this time, I attempted to reach out to the company and Michael and of course couldn't reach anyone and was never emailed or called back. The driver stated they would arrive the following day, Friday 5/31 at 7am. Well, at 930am the driver and his coworker finally showed up. Almost 2 hours was spent doing paperwork where the driver attempted to charge me an additional $300 ( $150 charge for having an elevator in my building and $150 for an "extra long carrying length") since I lived on the 5th floor. These "hidden charges" were never disclosed to me on the phone when I booked the move with Michael or received the quote via email. They also stated that my couch was not on the inventory list and they did not have enough room for it.It would have been another $500 to have them add the couch to my already very small load (I lived in a one bedroom apartment that was 800 sq ft).I voiced my concerns/frustrations with the owner over the phone and he gave me a "discount of $150" off the new total for my inconvenience? My load was scheduled for delivery June 6th. Be VERY careful and read the FINE PRINT! This company states they have 30 business days from the first date of delivery you give them to get you your belongings. They stated my belongings would arrive June 6th they didn't arrive for over 2 weeks later on June 21st on an 18 wheeler of a different company. Every time I contacted the company I was not given an ETA time or date. For 2 weeks I was told my things were on a truck in Georgia and that once the driver was done with local drop off and pick ups he would receive a route out to the west coast. One the driver arrived to my home, he stated he had to wait for his help to arrive. An hour later, a college age kid arrived. I am positive this was a 'friend' of the drivers that helped him under the table and even overheard the young man ask the driver when he might have more work for him soon. They unloaded my belongings that thankfully I had packed very well. The few furniture items that were wrapped, packaged, or disassembled by Northstar Movers upon pickup were damaged. Most significantly, a few metal bar stools I owned along with a large black 5 drawer dresser that was completely trashed.I am currently in the middle of filing a claim and will be lucky if I get $60 or less for my damaged items. Moral of the story: make sure you read the fine print, make sure every arrangement is in writing, purchase additional insurance, and NEVER hire a smaller 'family owned' company like Northstar Movers. They have zero customer service, are money-hungry, and shady shady shady!

  12. A terrible company - do NOT use!!

Do NOT use this company. I relocated from New Jersey to Arizona in in January-2019. Northstar delegated this relocation to a company called State-to-State Movers in New Jersey. If I could give them 0 stars to both companies I would. Northstar fraudulently over-charged me for the cubic feet of goods shipped. I was required to pay after they took possession of my property. They also demanded a (fraudulent) $600 cash payment (to use a local shuttle truck at the destination that was not required) before they would un-load my property upon delivery. This was a scam. The delivery was made 2 weeks after the scheduled date. Communication during the move was pathetic and unacceptable. And of course, there was notable lost and damaged boxes and other property. I strongly encourage you to AVOID this company,..Greg Moller 6/24/2019.

  13. The Perfect Movers.

It’s was a true pleasure to work with northstar movers. They literally the best movers I’ve ever been hired.
I moved back home from davie florida to Jacksonville North Carolina (just moved last march) and I called northstar movers.
They lady on the phone was extremely nice and polite and from that moment everything went great. Great job guys!

  14. Incredible service! Best Movers!

Definitely unusual experience. My move went too good.. 3 guys showed up uniformed and equipped and ready to work. By 1:30pm they done wrapping, packing and loading. My previous move was a nightmare, driver came to me alone, late and after I signed on all paperwork he get 2 guys from craiglist. Any way with northstar its all different story. Great and honest people.

  15. Terrible moving company - do not use.

Demanded lots of hidden fees in addition to originally quoted fee with no proper documentation of fees, and only accepted cash. Difficult to reach staff when calling to coordinate. Delivery of move arrived nearly 1 week late. Be sure to read fine print on their contract. Or better just don't use them at all. Movers very unprofessional.
