Avoid at all costs!
I submitted a request for a quote to move from Louisiana to West Virginia (1100 miles) through All American Movers. Pelican Movers is who they contracted with for the job. They were horrible & completely unpofessional. They showed up ay my apartment, and before they even started the job were asking where there was a place to eat nearby. Next thing I know, Dominos is at my door delivering food for them, which they take the time to consume. After being there for over an hour, they finally start the job. They wrapped up things that didn't need it, and didn't do things that did. They put tape all across a wooden chest, ruining the finish. They destroyed one of my cabinets, and a chair that I had for years that belonged to my grandmother. I was given an initial quote of $2700. Was told after everything was done that my total nearly doubled, to $5,140. Some things happened, and I wasn't able to complete my move. I contacted them, and had them bring all of my things to a storage unit in Alabama for me. (400 miles) I was told I still had to pay the quoted amount, even though they were going far less miles, and just packing everything away, not assembling furniture, etc., which was in the initial cost. I feel that I should not have had to pay that exhorbitant amount for what was done. Also, once I did get my things moved to my new destination in Mississippi, I had a stereo receiver, a set of speakers, and about 100 cds missing that they did not send when they brought my things to AL. About $1,000 worth of things that just disappeared.
Horrible
-Loaded the entire truck, then showed a contract for 3x what the BINDING estimate said ($6,500 up to $20,500)
-Hostile, and threatened my grandmother to “Get me my money” after she paid a $9,000 deposit. The check was on hold at his bank because it was such a large amount, but he didn’t understand that and called her late in the evening angry threatening not to bring her things. He told her to wire $9,000 first thing in the morning and she likely would’ve done it if we didn’t stop her. The check cleared the next morning and he had his money.
-Upon arriving with her things, he threatened to leave when we asked for an explanation of the initial price increase. Got in his truck and started driving off before my grandmother gave him the check to keep her things there.
-Nearly every box was crushed and all the furniture was scratched or worse. Then he gave us incorrect information for his Insurance company.
-For over $20k, you’d expect professional help....nope. He had his two teenage sons helping and they were not gentle with anything.
-Yelled at my grandmother when she asked him not to step on her mattress with his boots. Claimed “I am a professional, leave me alone to do my job.”
-Left all of their trash in our yard and said, “We don’t do trash. I am not a trash man.” Even though the trash was all of their tape and boxes they used to cover furniture.
And WORST OF ALL: he told us his name was Nicholas the entire time. It is not: his name is Elbin Guity and he’s been accused of aggravated assault of his wife and likely didn’t want us to look him up. It would’ve been nice to know we were dealing with a violent man with a checkered past. He should’ve never been allowed in their home, and my hope is that no one ever has to deal with this man again.
