  1. Domestic removal.

I knew moving would be stressful but had not imagined that choosing this removal company would make it so much worse. On the day of removal they kept disappearing and I had to go to look for them. It turned out they were not happy that they could not park immediately outside the property. I had raised this with the assessor and shown him the property on google maps, & he had said there would be no problem. After 4 hours they decided it was too late to deliver & kept my furniture overnight, leaving me alone in an empty house. They then charged me an additional fee on top of the original quote which more than doubled the cost to deliver the next morning (which they achieved within two hours). I found them in-communicative, unhelpful, and inconsiderate. Of course their contract makes sure that any problems are down to the customer – so there is nothing that can be done when things go wrong. Except to warn as many people as possible to avoid this company and find one which cares about its customers or at least has a basic understanding of customer service.

  2. At Any Cost Avoid!

If you have the chance to see this blog before going with Simpsons Removal Company - think again and do not go with them. I have never found myself in such a situation to even consider writing a review but this company is not what they claim to be. In all fairness they were always really kind, helpful and SEEMED professional. That was after I discovered that they withheld quite important information to the point where I actually feel devceived. They made me pay the downpayment (50% - ca. £1000) because the moving truck already arrived less than a week later. Then send me through the documents detailing that I need to accomodate 7tn truck at both destinations. I had to sign up to it because I had already paid the downpayment. No one had let me known before hand (which would have been the important bit). Then they hassled with me over insurance as they told us that each box was insured with £40 and in addition we could insure whatever we wanted. We got a quote for that in writing. Afterwards I was told that I was "discriminating" against the insurance company - I.e. not insuring enough stuff. When I called out to them politely that it seems that they had not checked what we wanted insured with the company first, still quoted us and this was not my fault that they did not know the minimum levels of insurance for their own company they dropped it - but that was a good 5-6 emails of hassling. Then the guys came and picked up the stuff. The movers on the day asked me for a feedback form when I pointed out that I had not actually heard about most of the things on the feedback form ("Have you been informed of such and such in advance") they said - "yeah the office..". Ah great so even the movers know that office is not doing a proper job. Afterwards I get an email telling me that more space was used than actually quoted for - I had to pay an additional £400. The truck that arrived was empty it could have been pointed out to me at the time and at least I had the choice of either taking stuff off the truck or paying but just receiving an email "Surprise - please pay" I do not think is a very ethical approach whatsoever. The day after the movers came I had to pay the rest of the money (another ca. £1000 - that is in addition to the £400!) even though my goods had not arrived in Germany yet. We then had paid for a Premium Service, which we were told meant that all the other deliveries were being arranged around ours and we would get our goods on a Saturday. They then changed that to Friday ("we never confirmed Saturday"). On top of it we then were unable to arrange for the truck to deliver in Germany so it had to go to a different moving company that we are now paying. They were meant to deliver today (as per the Premium Service that cost us £500) - the goods were dropped off yesterday. In between all these issues you cannot believe how many conversations and how much hassle we had to put up with constant back and forth writing of emails to get what we wanted, needed and paid for and that is simply not what you want from your moving company (given that moving is stressful at the best of times and you really do not need this additional hassle). Their one argument is that they are governed by the BAR, however I contacted the BAR about this unethical behaviour and their response mainly was I should try and sort it with the company itself first. Now I have worked in the Financial Services industry and I know if someone contacted the FCA (to which Simpsons referred the BAR to) this would have been taken a whole lot more serious. We did complain to the company so many times about the lack of service and the withhold of the IMPORTANT information to make moving decisions and they have always come back in a professional and kind tone which was a voluminous amount of text detailing and explaining but essentially not helping us at the end of the day. I spent so much money for a service that does not even deserve the word service and I need to spend more now for the moving company in Germany. Waste of money and time (not to mention a "premium service" that they did not stick to as per contract). I have to say that I was surprised to see the company respond to so many claims here on the review site - perhaps the time would be better invested into upskilling employees to not just ACT professional but also BE professional - I.e. giving your clients all the necessary information to make an informed decision before you take their money.

  3. Simpsons Removals!!

This seem to be their norm these days. I shipped my cargo from UK to Johannesburg, South Africa. It took them a rather long period to get the cargo to South Africa. When it finally got there, they subcontracted to a company called Advance Transport in Cape Town who claimed to have handed my cargo to H&M Removals. I asked them for the Way Bill and they did not seem to know what this is. For a professional company, I wonder how they are still in business. For a while, neither Advance Transport nor H&M Removals could locate my cargo! I had to call all three companies severally before they could finally locate my cargo. When the cargo arrived Johannesburg, H&M Removals would not deliver to my address because they were on "skeleton staff"! I had to hire a truck to pick up my items myself! and lo and behold, as expected, one of my items was stolen!  This is what I found about Advance Transport on the net http://hellopeter.com/advance-transport/complaints/advance-transport-couldnt-be-less-interested-1149753. This is exactly the same attitude I received from them. Old habits die hard they say! My recommendation? I would shop around for companies that actually care about you and who understand what it means to move from one country to another. As if it is not stressful enough, some think they can do what ever suits them and the customer can do nothing. Well, I have news for you! Times have changed and the social media has given us the power we need to bring companies like yours to your senses!  .

  4. Moving locally and storage facilities.

I had a fridge and washing machine in storage with Simpsons for 2 years and they stored both items with the doors shut rendering both items useless. They then refused to replace them by saying that it is there policy to store these items with the doors shut and it was my fault for not drying them out properly. They also damaged quite a few items and at one time refused to believe that I had a complaint although I had asked for and filled in a claim form. In my opinion they are not professional and there staff do not seem to care about your personal property. The speed there drivers drive those vans its surprising that they do not damage more items because I have seen them go past me like the wind. They do not take care with your items and when asked to put items in the garage they just dump it without any thought. It took me 9 months of fighting to get any sort of compensation and that still did not cover the cost of the fridge and washing machine. They seemed to rely on playing the long wait expecting the person with the complaint to give up as they loose the will to fight. In my opinion stay clear. .

  5. Poor Delivery Men & Customer Service.

Never, I repeat NEVER use Simpsons removals.  They refused to unpack any of my furniture apart from 2 beds (which they whinged constantly about) I only found out that it did not include flatpacks on arrival (and everything had been flatpacked) but even the items that hadn't they refused to unpack.  They left me their own rubbish to clear aswell as the debris they were contrated to remove. The delivery men were also intimidating, lazy and rude. On complaining I have basically been tough and I'm lying! Now I wonder where those delivery men get their manners from.. Absolutely appalling company. .

  6. Surprisingly good.

Having lost our slot with our original removals company we shopped around for another. Simpsons were the most attentive and sent out the owner to see us and price up the job. The cost was competitive - £580.00 plus vat - and the extra few boxes we needed were robust, cheap and promptly dropped off for us the following day - no big deposits or hidden extras, all costs were agreed upfront. We read mixed reviews so were more than a little nervous but as it turned out, our experience was great. On the day of the move a massive truck and a team of three very professional staff turned up ten minutes early and after a quick assessment, tigrelessly and carefully loaded all our gear onto the truck. There was a slight delay while we waited for the other house to finish but the lads stepped up and made up the time to ensure we didn't incur any overtime charges. We didn't incur any breakages either which was another bonus.Polite, courteous and professional service. I would recommend Simpsons.

  7. Furniture removal.

We would not recommend Simpsons for moves. They made errors in billing and would not recognize payment receipts from their on line payment website. They were slow to move our belongs from storage to shipping. Lost valuable belongings in transit with no explanation other than telling us to claim of the insurance and we had damaged items when our belongings arrived. During many calls to the company the front line office staff made attempts to help but senior managers had a terrible approach.

  8. Uk to Canada.

I was very disppointed with Simpsons removals. We booked them, used a shared container. I was told it would take a maximumnof 10-12 weeks for delivery. No where was I told at all it would take longer for any reason. This was the main reason I booked and used them because of the time frame. We moved from the uk to Canada. It is stressful moving at the best of times. I emailed regular and contacted them via email a lot, I never got a reply. I then emailed upper management and got a short and abrupt email back Telling me it was in consoldoation amd I would be informed once it is on the ship. I was told in the email that there wasn't a time frame (even though I had NEVER got told it would take that long I was told 10-12 weeks!) I gave up emailing/contacting them as I never got a response. I found it horrendous! We finally got our items 8 months later. Absolutely disgraceful.. On the positive once our goods arrived in Canada I cannot fault the company used here (not simpsons!) they were fantastic, emailed regularly with updates. .

  9. Why didn't I read these reviews before I booked Simpsons?!

I wish I’d seen this site before booking Simpsons for my move, I wish I’d thought to look for a review site. I can only agree with what has already been said. Worst moving experience ever. Bought the packing service and was left without phone, internet, microwave and very nearly kettle for 3 days, on the move day they tried to leave before my things were out of the house and then broke my sofa, kitchen table and about 14 other (smaller) things. Total carnage and a complaint isn’t worth the effort (although I have tried). .

  10. Simpsons Removals Were Great !!

We moved to Perth and took half a 20 foot container, the Simpsons saleman come out to our house and we showed him what we wanted to move, we was sent an email quote within two days of them coming out to us. We got other quote and some were cheaper than Simpsons but we had a good feeling about them, when the time came to book the moving day they were very helpful and gave us lots of great information on how to complete the forms. The big day can and the three staff done a great job of packing the goods and loaded it into there vehicle, we did get a call from Simpsons and they told us we had gone over the amount they had quoted for and wanted anothe £275, to be fair I did take some extra items that we did not show the salesman so it was only fair to pay them for the extra work and the extra space in the container. Over all it was a great move and not on thing got broken so hats of to the Simpsons packers and the office staff that held our hand every stepof the way.

  11. Avoid at all costs for international shipping.

I paid Simpsons to ship goods as part of a consolidated container on the 29th of September 2012 to the US East Coast.  At the time of booking, I was assured that while they could not give me definite delivery times, it was normally between 8 - 10 weeks with a maximum of 12 weeks. On that basis I booked with them. I finally received my goods about 24 weeks after I gave it to them - on March 17 2013. Their customer service is very poor - when I asked when I would get my goods, their only response was that in their terms and conditions, they do not guarantee delivery. They then asked me to pay an additional £1,200 if I wanted my goods delivered on time. Alternatively, they  told me to come to their warehouse and take my goods and that they will then charge me for storage!! Without doubt, the worst consumer experience of my life.    .

  12. Read the Bit in the Contract about THIRD PARTIES.

Once the international third party sole trader which Simpsons-UK had given our money to in order to handle delivery and 'destination services' disappeared, Peter Simpson was quick to remind us of the clause in the contract we signed with them that the customer has to pay any costs arising from such circumstances. From then on we were at the mercy of these third parties with virtually no support from Simpsons-UK except long and patronizing emails from Turner demanding us to 'just pay them'. Late delivery, poor communication, loss of money, rude suppliers - it was a horrible experience. If you pay Simpsons-UK to move your possessions internationally you will pay for their poor choice of global agents, which they will not even contract, just prepay with your money. Why use Simpsons-UK at all? Just go and research local contractors in the country you are moving to. Simpsons-UK made our move an awful experience and their replies to others in this list demonstrate their arrogant approach to customer service.

  13. Dont even consider it.

Worst experience ever. Had to change my removal dates and they simply would not engage. Called them eight times and could not get any help. They lied to me arguing that I had cancelled the service when I hadnt. They also lied on court today and provided a false testimony, but still won the case against me. The judge said I should have called them again (a ninth time) before going elsewhere.  The irony is that the judge said that they would have won irrespective of whether their testimony was a lie (so a couple of unnecessary lies from their side). So in the end they will receive approx 700 pounds of my money for doing nothing. But my conscience is clean. Just a couple of unnecesary lies Simpsons, nice job.

  14. You have to understand the removal industry to write reviews.

Hi I'm Marcues I used Simpsons Removals last year to ship my effects to Dubai. I was dealt with by Max Oughera who I must say was very professional and had an excellent telephone manner and very polite (I would recommend you as to speak with him if your looking for removal quotes).

Max asked if I had an idea in termsof my overall volume and I discussed with him the items I was looking to ship, he then estimated the volume to be 8 cubic meters and then went on to ask what service I was looking for. I wanted the quickest option as I had time constraints so Max advised that the quickest option was not the most cost effective.

The most cost effective method of shipping your goods overseas is in fact in a shared/groupage container and NOT as LCL as I have now researched and told by Max very clearly.

I've read reviews and see that people get irrate when they're told a transit time and write reviews when their goods are not delivered on time (at least to their knowledge) but you have to understand that an ETA is only an estimated time of arrival and not EXACT time of arrival and also if your goods are being shipped as groupage then you have to wait until that particular container is full in order for the company to ship it.

If you want an express service then be prepared to pay for it and please understand that if your shipping to an international location then be prepared to wait.

My overall expreince with Simpsons Removals was excellent. I understand how long a ship will take to arrive in Jebel Ali and also appreciate how business works and also realistic about time frames.

If you're looking to move overseas I would highly recommend Simpsons Removals for your service, aslo Danny the driver who cam to collect was fantastic.
