  1. Price Gauging and Terrible Customer Service

Don’t be fooled! There is nothing affordable about student movers. We were charged close to $1,100 to move a bed, dresser, small tv, and tv stand 50 miles. When I called to ask for a breakdown of how this charge was calculated, the woman I spoke to was rude and evasive. Ultimately, she refused to answer my question. I followed up with two emails and received nothing but an invoice indicating that we were charged 8 hours. Because I never got the clarification I requested, I can only surmise that I was charged the minimum 4 hours labor (to which I agreed beforehand and with which I don’t take issue) plus FOUR hours drive time. During the very difficult conversation I had with the woman who mans the phone, I was told that the drive was 1 hour and 8 minutes long. Even though I was not notified beforehand, they must round up. Thus, 1 hour and 8 minutes became 2 hours which was then doubled according to DDT (Double Drive Time) regulations. So ultimately, I was charged 4 hours DDT for the actual 2 hours and 16 minutes of DDT actually used.

I will add that the company is called Student Movers for a reason. One mover was just out of high school. The other was a freshman in college. They were fine. They just lacked the wisdom and expertise that comes with doing a job for more than a few months. The move was an easy one, so they managed. Here’s my issue: COVID restrictions necessitated leaving a lot of the small items piled up in the common area of the assisted living facility. I did not want to leave these items unattended for too long but was forced to wait for final paperwork. I asked the boys to leave the final paperwork with the gal in the lobby- no signature needed and no restricted entrance. When I came down to the lobby after the move-in was complete, I discovered the boys DID NOT drop off the paperwork as requested. It’s a small thing, but telling.

If you want fair pricing and more experienced movers, do not go with Student Movers!

  2. Fraudulent Company

This is the absolute worst company I have ever used. I lived in a 500SF apartment. 3rd floor but there's elevators. Giving them the benefit of the doubt it takes 5 minutes to get from the unit to the truck and 5 minutes back. Overall each haul would probably take 10-15 minutes if that. The dolly they brought had a flat so they used my dolly and cart to load boxes. No problem.

I have maybe 35 boxes total and 10-12 pieces of furniture including chairs (which I disassembled ahead of time). We put everything but our bed and dresser into the living room to make things easier. I have before pictures of our set up for reference. Really not a lot of stuff.

We hired 2 people for the 4hr minimum. I was already expecting a bill for $440 plus the 20% and the "double drive time." Moving from Ontario to Menifee is usually 45 minutes but with a truck let's say 1 hour.

I spoke to Michelle and the owner Sean twice. First time I called they were 2 hours in and they weren't even halfway done. I called and they took no ownership and blamed the elevator for taking so long. They kept talking over each other and I couldn't understand them.

My boyfriend and I, with the same items and furniture moved into our place in Ontario in less than an hour. When I told them this they told me I was lying. Again, so professional. I've moved countless times and have never taken this long to move ever. The only reason why I hired movers is because I hurt my foot a week before our move and we needed the assistance. The guys they sent us were sluggish and had absolutely no hustle. They were incredibly rude and did not handle our belongings with care. I tried to tell this to Michelle and Sean but they said the sole reason why it took so long was because of the elevator, again no accountability. My boyfriend helped them move because they weren't fast enough.

I was even told by Michelle on the first call that it took this same crew 2 hours to load a 3 bedroom but they said they were on the driveway and it was closer but it all still doesn't make sense to me. She quickly changed her tune when she three way called me with the owner, Sean. They also added the movers to the call and cussed and said derogatory marks towards my boyfriend (this was before they realized I was on the call). I tried to bring this up but they both gaslighted me.

So let's do the math. 2 movers (including my boyfriend) with the cart and dolly I provided can take up to 6 boxes at a time (it can do more than that but let's just say 6). That's 6 trips at 15 minutes so far. That's 90 minutes just for my boxes. Including the furniture let's say an additional 4-6 trips and that's if each person carries 1 piece of furniture each and two people carry the couch and mattress on the last trips. That's 2.5 hours total to load the truck. It has taken them 5.5 hrs to load a truck. Not counting the 1.5 hrs to drive and 2.5 hrs to unload.

I'm furious because I am literally paying almost 3 times more than what was expected and Sean has taken no ownership over his crew moving at a snail's pace. I was threatened by Michelle that they would put a lien on my property and seize it too and she also informed me I should be mad at my boyfriend and not the crew? Are you serious?

Additionally, they left the apartment without telling us for 30 minutes. Which I'm sure I'll be charged for that too. Took them 1.5 hours to travel to Ontario to Menifee. The truck was an absolute wreck in the back when they pulled up with my items. All my furniture is broken with the exception of my couch and mattress. They goofed off countless times and I had to continuously ask them to get back to work. I had one employee out of the two inform me that he has been "Out of work for a while and this is my first day back. I really need these hours." They clearly were taking advantage of the situation. DO NOT use this company. I used them because of the good reviews but the negative ones are very real. I am sure they will deny this is true as well. These reviews have got to be paid.

What I have is a $1,500 bill, had to assist on moving my items which I paid a service to do, almost $3,000 worth of damages (I made a inventory sheet with these damages), owner and service rep took zero responsibility and couldn't answer my question of why it took so long, have your property be threatened to be taken away, threaten to have the police be called on you for harassment when all you are trying to do is get your belongings moved respectfully and correctly and then be told it's your fault that this all happened because they deny any ownership of any problems. I repeat DO NOT use this company. I see there are very similar experiences close to mine. This companies responses are an absolute joke. Do not believe their responses, it is all lies. Report them to the Bureau of Household Goods and Services if you have the same issues. This company is 100% FRAUDULENT. Love to see how you respond because pictures do not lie.

  3. Happy Customer.

Great guys, hard workers, very respectful of furniture and environment, would always use them again!!

  4. Student Movers did a great job.

I called Student Movers on super short notice and they were able to get a team of guys to my place in less than 24 hours. Matt and Austin showed up early and did a great job. I did not want to carry those things upstairs, but they took care of everything and then asked what else they could do to help. They assembled some furniture for me and I couldn't be happier with the service. Will definitely call them next time I need moving help.

  5. 5 star moving company.

So everyone hates moving. It sucks so I hired Student Movers to help me move from Newport Beach to Huntington Beach, California. This was by far the best and easiest move I've ever had. Crew was professional local moving guys that went above and beyond to move whatever I needed. Price was fair and was all inclusive. Everyone else I called didn't answer their phones or when they did they were trying to talk to me on someone else's move..not cool. Student Movers customer service answered the phone, helped me book my move on their awesome moving website 24/7 was able to book when I was ready to book my appointment. Student Movers even helped pack up all my kitchen items with packing paper and boxes(was extra for packing supplies) but was easy as can be. I loved the conveince of Student Movers, I was treated like a king. Hassle free move that I would've paid triple to have done what they did and saved me time and money.

  6. Student Movers went above and beyond.

We were so happy with our move with Student Movers. Being in the service we move all the time. It was nice to have people moving us that were professional and clean. From the moment they arrived they got down to business or should I say moving. They were polite and friendly. We moved from a large 5 bedroom house that and had lots of garage tools, and equipment. It was nice to know we were in good hands. The movers packed the truck and we arrived at our new home. They helped set up furniture and always had a smile on their face even on the hot day that we moved. My family and I were so pleased with this moving company that we have referred them to all our friends and realtor. Great job, keep up the good work.

  7. Really impressed with Student Movers.

This post can save you a lot of time and money, because I already did a lot of cost-comparing and you will not find a better deal than Student Movers. Be sure to ask about their specials.

The movers, were professional and personable, efficient, cheerful and intelligent. During a stressful time like moving, it really helps a lot to have smart people to help. Student Movers was amazing - two not-giant guys who easily carried large boxes and furniture up two flights of stairs with no complaints. Don't let their size fool you - these guys are STRONG!

I've had some rotten experiences moving, with stuff being broken or "disappeared" but this was a very smooth move with zero damages or losses and I plan to use this company every time I move from now on.

We really appreciate the efforts Student Movers took to keep our stuff intact and our new home undamaged.

They were also very easy to talk to and eager to help, making the move even easier.

I will definitely recommend www.thestudentmovers.com to all my friends.

  8. Best Move Ever -Polite and Hard Working.

My Co-worker had used them a few weeks ago and said that she did was stand back and watched these very nice men do their job and load her things into the truck.  Her husband had to work and was not their the whole timw so she was relieved when the guys knew what had to be done and wrapped her furniture carefully and loaded the truck like a tetris puzzle.I was late calling due to work and my move date came faster then I thought The gal who answered the phone was very sweet and answered all my questions. It was a great price also 2 men and truck for $330. The cheapest rate I had gotten from other movers. Also I was impressed the had all come in a uniform, like a polo shirt with their name on it and hat.  I got the same service as my friend at work and I would use them again, I have already told my Mother In Law who lives in Nor_Cal, I guess they have crews up their as well. It sucks to move and I am glad I took my friends advise. Oh forgot to mention we also got a discount cause we angies list and yelp. I think it is one or the other but I know we both got one.    .
