  1. Unprofessional & incompetent. Please avoid!

DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS MOVING COMPANY! That’s the crux of this review. This company made my cross-country move to Atlanta a nightmare. In short, the movers arrived late, appeared hungover, attempted to scam me out of my belongings, and broke/damaged many of them. Trico seems to think that if even the PIECES of your items arrive, you shouldn’t receive an appropriate refund. The entire experience was unsettling and hurtful considering how serious this move was due to the pandemic. Avoid at all costs.

When I booked in August for the early October move, I gave a temp address and told Brian, the reservation agent, I’d update once I signed my lease. I gave the correct address in early September via email and phone. Brian quoted me nearly $10K for a household and car move, completing a phone and virtual inventory assessment. We both agreed that my apartment was organized and tidy, so the move should have been easy. I included packing services so I could focus on starting my virtual onboarding at my new job rather than trying to pack myself. I reiterated multiple times that I needed the move to start as early in the day as possible since my train to Atlanta left that night. Instead, the movers showed up around 11:30 am, piddled around until they officially started at 12:30 pm, took a lunch at 2:30 pm, returned around 4 pm, and continued haphazard, slow, and reckless packing until after 9 pm when I finally had to leave to avoid missing my train. They were still there when I left. In all, I think the entire job took them over 10 hours. I found out later that they left a huge scratch on my apartment door in retaliation.

I have relocated multiple times – sometimes packing myself and sometimes having movers pack. This was the longest and most trifling experience of them all. My packing and moving has never taken longer than six hours. They tossed glass artisanal spice bottles on top of one another and found then used my (packed) bed blanket as cushion. Now both are ruined (see pictures). They wrapped my large flat screen in a blanket and put pictures in TV boxes with mirrors, TVs, and other artwork. None of it was secured or cushion-wrapped. My mattress arrived smelling like mildew and had brown stains on it. One of my TV bases was cracked. My large buffet had scratches and a damaged leg. One of my bookcases was broken. An end table was irreparably bent. Clothes were stuffed in boxes with no wrapping to prevent water damage. I still can’t find my bedroom lamps; at least one of the living room lamps is inoperable because of missing pieces. Electronics were thrown in with delicate items. Dishware was poorly packed and thrown together, most of which ended up broken. None of the furniture was wrapped properly, so everything had a horrible smell, which took weeks to clear out.

They purposely left certain items out in an attempt to take them and would have succeeded if my friend and I hadn’t lingered around to literally watch them box and tag every item. The most insulting part is that I found my mother’s picture urn tossed around like trash on top of other items. I was and still am completely disgusted.

I notified Brian and others on the team of my issues the same day, as the movers were moving my belongings, including pictures to prove they were still packing at nearly 9 pm. I explicitly told Kat that, at a minimum, I wanted to be reimbursed for the packing costs, which were over $1,600. She said my request was noted but she couldn’t give a final offer until after my belongings arrived. It took weeks for my things to come. I spent the entire time anxious and scared not knowing would need to be replaced but certain that a lot had gone wrong.

I realized Brian never updated my address the day my car arrived. I had to ride-share to a random location because the delivery person was too lazy to pay attention to my actual address and locate the ample parking. The day my belongings arrived, I missed two work meetings because they didn’t have the right address either. I kept going downstairs to meet and open the door for them, but they weren’t there. I realized all the damage once they began bringing items in. I immediately contacted Kat again to discuss a settlement. I’m now submitting my review and a complaint with the BBB.

This company is disgusting, unprofessional, and scammy to say the least. Don’t believe the 5-star reviews. They’re not the full picture. Do yourself a favor and find another company so you have a chance to minimize the stress of a cross-country move.

  2. Top Notch Movers.

I checked out about a bunch of movers in the Los Angeles area before narrowing it down to Trico. They not only had solid pricing but they were easy to work with. Everything was out in the open. No hidden fees for blankets or fuel surcharges like some of the others. They quoted me a flat rate and that was what I paid. When moving, day came they go to my place 20 mins early (first time I've ever seen a mover arrival early) and got right to work. They did not take a break until everything from our 4 bedroom loft was moved on to the truck. Truck and all our stuff arrived safely and was placed in the house where we wanted it. They even took some time help us organized our furniture. Super thoughtful of them.

  3. Great move to Phoenix with Trico.

Overall great experience with Trico. They gave me 3 dates and time frames when I first contacted them. None were a perfect fit but they were nice enough to switch things around with a date that worked for us. I had a long list of question I wanted answers for. I anticipated they were going to rush through the conversation since that's what two other moving companies did when I was calling around. Instead they took their time answering each question and made sure I completely understood each answer. Moving out of state is a different ball game than going moving to a new area in the same city. Not only that but with the pricing being higher compared to local moving you want be absolutely sure your money is well spent and it was with Trico. Movers arrived head of schedule, were outgoing and friendly. They helped me take apart my guest bedroom furniture and they stayed organized throughout our move to Phoenix. I don't think I've recommended a moving company to anyone before but for these guys I'm making exception. For the price we paid we felt like they did offered a level of service and dedication to our move.

  4. No One Knew What They Were Talking About.. Repeated Lies And Broken f.

I paid top dollar for a move from LA to Denver. I had left half of my items in storage until I had bought a new home in Denver. First, they were unable to give me a proper accounting of the items in storage. I repeatedly had to ask them where items were that they had originally moved. It took them more than a week to give me a full accounting. Next, I gave them a delivery window that I wanted my belongings moved to Denver. The repeatedly lied to me about when they would make it. Ultimately, they were more than two weeks late with the delivery. I received a call from their mover who had no idea where THEIR storage unit was located. They then lied to me about the phone call. I was never able to get a straight answer from them. Finally, when they did arrive, they brought a dolly that got grease all over my brand new carpet, broke my Eames lounge chair and then the workmen left their tools behind. This service is NOT recommended for anyone who expects decent customer service.
