  1. DISASTER, DISAPPOINTING, Lost my sofa, bed-frame part and headboard

WE WERE VERY DISAPPOINTED DUE TO LOST ITEMS

My husband researched this company. He compared costs, reviews, communications on phone and in emails. They seemed solid. August 21, 2021, movers showed up at 11 p.m. - not the established 7 p.m. We had to call the company 2 times to ensure they showed up that night. We were upset they showed no courtesy about their late arrival. It impacted our travel plans for that night, hours off schedule for our drive and check in at a hotel - 3 a.m..

When the movers arrived the head one said they would charge us for stairs. We had described our stairs to the booking agent and were told there would not be a charge. First added charge. Then on top of this, a mover seemed high on drugs and was bouncing around and not what I would call professional at all in his behavior. Further to their unprofessionalism was them dropping boxes as they loaded onto a trolley/dolly. Not very careful. I caught a box as it was about to fall off their trolley/dolly. They laughed about that, but I said, "excuse me, the box was marked, "fragile", that means you guys need to be careful." They said they wanted to get out as fast as possible. They left at midnight and this was a big inconvenience to us and messed up our plans.

From August 21 to September 23, 2021. We waited for our furniture. I felt as if it would NEVER ARRIVE. Longer than we expected. We had to call the booking office 2-3 times to find out when it would come. They did not seem to know. They told us to call a number in Vancouver and they charged a WAREHOUSE fee on top of it. THEY HAVE HIDDEN COSTS. THEY DID NOT DISCLOSE THAT WE WOULD BE CHARGED. $200, which we had no choice but to pay if we wanted our furniture. It took them 2 hours to move our stuff in. The worst surprise was that we did not get our beautiful Jane Seymour Collection sofa or the head board and side rail for the master bed. One of the movers stated, there was no room left in the truck so they just didn't bring it. My husband contacted the moving company and insisted they have it back to us by the latest - Saturday, seeing as it was Thursday afternoon. They did not follow through. From there we have had to pursue them and they told us to submit a claim form of which they said it takes 8 to 10 weeks to process! This is unacceptable. We are still without a living room sofa and a queen bed frame for the master bedroom. Plus some items were damaged/broken, likely from the boxes being dropped. At this point we are going to report the items as a theft. The other unprofessional issue is that we found out later that one of the two movers had a violent interaction with a tenant in our new home. The mover was taken away by police because he assaulted the tenant for cutting him off as he pulled out to leave on the street. Our leasing agent told us this and we were shocked and disappointed the people they hire are violent and so unprofessional. I repeat DO NOT , go with this company. Thousands of dollars later - it is not worth the hassle, the headache and the heartache. I have searched online everywhere to see if I can get the same sofa and bedframe and there do not make them anymore. My sofa was VERY SPECIAL TO ME, a real keepsake and artistic piece. I feel they stole it. I loved that sofa because it was oversized and could seat all five of my family comfortably. I am heartbroken, as my living space is important to me and I can not get the same look and feel that our family enjoyed. Do not go with this company.

You are taking a risk and a gamble with your things and you may end up losing them.

A very poor customer service response as well. Not very caring or considerate of how inconvenient it is to tell a customer they will have to wait 8 to 10 weeks for a response on where there sofa and bedframe are - even though the mover said that he saw them in the warehouse as they loaded the truck. VERY CARELESS>

    it is a mistake.

  2. Broken furniture + additional last minute fees!!

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! They will rob you until the last minute & they have awful customer service.

I booked a small move with them last July, under 1500lbs. The day before my move, they added an extra 500lbs and a $200 special handling charge.

I got the $200 removed but still had to pay the extra 500lbs!

The move out movers did not wrap any big furniture in blankets, I had to beg, they did not disassemble furniture (hitting walls with desks). On the move back in, all my furniture was thrown around the truck, damage to a $4000 marble table (hence the random extra fees - weight was already in quote) and they now (10 weeks later) have offered me $30 for all the damages!

They are horrible and awful to deal with! A bunch of scammers!

    DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!

  3. YOU WILL REGRET IT IF YOU USE THIS COMPANY

I never write reviews, but I have to add to the warnings to AVOID THIS COMPANY!!!! They are dishonest and unprofessional. The initial quotes are not even close to what they end up charging you. Plan for at least double. They LIE. And once you've given them your deposit, they basically have you hostage. SPREAD THE WORD. It is shameful how they conduct business, and they could not care less about you, the client. My review could be pages and pages of complaint -- echoing all of the other reviewers -- random changes, surprise fees, intimidating movers, completely untrustworthy representatives. They made the move a terrible experience. I will tell everyone I know about them and never, ever to use them. (NEGATIVE STARS - they don't deserve 1 star!!!)

  4. Great Service

My experience with Atlantic Van Lines was nothing short of great and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

I had a small move consisting of about 25 boxes and furniture items that had to go from Ontario to Alberta.

I shopped around and chose Atlantic because they were competitively priced and the service from Jen was great. The movers at both ends were friendly and professional and all my things arrived safe and sound. Nothing was damaged and all my boxes looked like they did the day they left Ontario.

Before signing on I asked a lot of questions to make sure I understood the price calculations and the time table for my move and I had no surprises.

A big thanks to Atlantic Van Lines.

  5. Totally Incompetent

DO NOT use this moving company. They offered me a 5-15 day window for moving my home, but 7 weeks later I am still waiting for delivery. They have arbitrarily changed my delivery schedule several times, and have lied to me about where my things are and when they will be delivered. I have tried to communicate with their "service" rep, but all they seem able to do is quote their rules (which are vague, and seem to be totally adjustable when it is convenient for them, or when they can add on extra fees and costs). I have moved many times and I know that no mover is perfect, but this company (if that's what it is) is COMPLETELY INCOMPETENT. They do not care about their customers at all ... it's all just a scam to rip people off.

  6. SCAM - BEWARE

This company is completely illegitimate and essentially a scam disguised as a moving company. I contacted them to move from Ottawa to Winnipeg. I have a small one bedroom apartment that is very sparsely furnished - only the necessary items. I was quoted $800 but the day before the move they contacted me for an inventory list of my items, which again were the minimal items you need to to furnish a one bedroom my quote was suddenly MINIMUM $1600 . From $800 to $1600 24-hours before the move. I talked to Jen and Lauren, who were both very unprofessional and rude and ultimately decided to fire them as my movers and go with another option. I only had to pay $450 for my down payment, which I will not get back, but I consider myself lucky because with their sketchy business practices I knew the move would cost far, far more than $1600. There needs to be an investigation into how companies like Atlantic Van Lines are effectively shells for scams like this. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Even prior to the sketchy quote they were very disorganized and did not seem to communicate with each other.

  7. Avoid... Nightmare

Thousands of dollars in damage to my furniture and effects. Literally every item was broken or scuffed in some way. They even broke into our armoire, literally broke the lock and stole the cheap jewelry we put in there. Who steals cheap jewelry!? They were probably hoping we would keep our good stuff in there.

Rude service, especially from the Alberta dispatcher. We waited for 6 hours for the movers to show up, then was told that the movers weren’t going to be there for another 3 days! We were told this after waiting, on the day of, and that was after I called the day before to ensure they were coming. I called home office and they got a truck to come out the next day, but wait there’s more... They then came with a truck too small to fit our stuff and tried to charge us to come back and get the rest of the stuff lol (Probably because dispatch was upset we called home office). Because this happened they voided my 5% military discount. Dispatch was rude and angry after I called home office to get an answer on why they weren’t coming the day they were supposed to. I did this after she told me to suck it up, and that the movers weren’t coming for three days and I was gonna have to “deal with it”!!! The dispatcher then called head office to head off my complaint, the audacity. The movers finished the job on the day dispatch said they would be there, 3 days after the initial pick up date. Likely intentional.

We were out 100’s of dollars for cancelled hotel fees that we booked for our travel to our new home in Ontario. Had to sleep in a hotel for two days in Alberta because they took our bed on the first move day (my wife was pregnant, so I didn’t want her to sleep on the floor). We had to extend our rent and push back our plans.

A lot of hidden fees, the cost started at 1100 ended up paying almost 10, 000$. No joke... The initial form you fill out to get a estimate of the weight for your goods will criminally under quote you, then bam, 1100$ quote turns into 6000$. They will tell you that you will have to fill out another quote that they will send by email and will be more accurate. Mine was sent the day the movers showed up (after I called).

The movers showed up unprepared and I had to go to Uhaul to buy the boxes for them to store my stuff in! They taped everything, so the inside of the fridge and all my appliances and furniture have the brown left over marks from the tape. Everything is either dented or out right broken. I seriously don’t know how they managed to break everything.

Filed a claim for all the broken goods and they wanted to give me 30$ and said if I wanted better service I should have bought better insurance. Really I should of hired a better company, and so should you... All I wanted was to have my stuff moved, is it to hard to ask to not break everything?!

Because the company can only, apparently, move stuff once a month, I had to have them ship to a storage unit or pay them a 450$ storage fee (my house was not ready yet) and pay them 1500$ to unload my stuff! It still cost me an additional 900$ to hire another moving company to move from the storage unit to my house (These movers were amazing by the way).

Do yourself a favour and hire from the bigger more professional companies, any savings or quotes they give are not the real amount you will be charged. These guys should be in jail or out of business, do the World a favour and take your hard earned money to a professional moving company... What a nightmare... Avoid!

  8. Awful company

The worst moving company that I have ever seen. Bad service. No tags on boxes. No invoice number. No items description on the paper. Overcharged!!!

I will not recommend it to anyone. The company is unprofessional and unorganized. Don't waste your money.

  9. No stars and never again

$10,000 for moving all my furnitures and effects ( we are family of 4 ) from Sherbrooke QC to Kingston ON ( 400 km )

Original quote at $3,000 and final invoice at $10,000. They didn’t want to provide weight ticket and I had to leave mini fridges and 9 boxes behind cause the truck wasn’t big enough.

I went through 5 moves in my life and that last one was the worst. Don’t trust Jen Kirsh,

Sales Representative or Lexi Carter, Sales Representative

    NEVER AGAIN

  10. Unorganized and crooks

Do not move with these guys. The day of delivery they showed up with a full truck saying they had no room for our stuff. Only after calling the head office and telling them we need to sell the place and the stuff needs to get moved, only then they said they would go "somewhere," then be back to unload the stuff later on. Before leaving the driver went up to the condo where he told us if he was going to move the furniture, which wasn't a lot we would have to pay an extra $700. Needless to say their "accurate quotes" are not accurate, they wait to see how desperate you are before tacking on extra fees. There wasn't that much stuff as it was my wife's late grandparents place so we cancelled and went with a Uhaul. We did not get our $400 deposit back. Interestingly when the driver was leaving he the middle half of his truck was empty... These guys are criminals who leave everything as vague as possible so they can screw you in the end. Taking advantage of desperate people. Shame on them, I'll never do business with them again.

  11. Doubled the rate at time of pick up

Driver showed up , then said he had no room. Then came back and said he had room. Driver talked down to my wife and sister-in-law, before he knew I was there. Then he started quoting extra cost for wrapping $200 and then an extra $500 because of our hall way length. BOTH of these were talked about in the quoting process . I told him to get out of our condo and that this company is a bunch of crooks! DONOT send them any money! They will lie to get the job and then up charge at time of pickup. DONOT do any business with this company!

  12. Crooks

Bunch of crooked people wrecking all my furniture nothing resolved just a bunch of lies. I would never recommend this company to anyone I had to buy all new furniture as everything was destroyed by them I asked for compensation and nothing I waited for 10 weeks and now I have a attorney that will look after this I was quoted 1700 dollars and so as they have my furniture I’m told 4500 same as when they drop off my furniture the guys want another 500 dollars omg I will see you in court

  13. Poor Planning

-When booking I had to tell them over the phone and via email multiple times both the address I was moving from and where I was moving to

-After booking they tried to convince me to allow them to pick up a week early with only one days notice. When I flat out said no they said they think they can make the original date work still.

-It took them a month to move my stuff from Ontario to Nova Scotia

-I called a week ago to ask for a delivery date and they gave me a 6 day window and said that they would call the day before they are delivering. I have no idea how anyone can plan accordingly

    - They called and I managed to get the next day off work so I asked them what time they would be arriving and they gave a 6hr window and said they’d call 30 min before arriving so I couldn’t even go to work or leave the house just in case they called.

-After waiting 5hrs into that 6hr window and no call I called the company and they added another 3hrs onto the window.

-2hrs later they called to say that they won’t be coming until tomorrow morning now so I took off a day of work for no reason. The lady on the phone said that since I paid already (you have to pay the full amount before they will deliver) then they don’t care who opens the door for them.

-They flat out refused to offer me compensation for their piss poor planning or inconvenience

  14. Awful

I used Atlantic Van Lines to move, a lot of my furniture was destroyed during the move, they stored my furniture for 2 days before delivering, and obviously, they were tossing around my stuff and didn't care to handle it properly! 10 weeks after filing the claim they offered me $30 for the damages including a side lamp, bed frame, Dresser, and turntable, they informed me that I purchased the basic coverage and that basically they owe me nothing, although I wasn't offered any other coverage and even if I only had the basic coverage why is it ok that I paid this company to move my furniture and then having it completely destroyed! I ended up spending almost the same amount of the fee they charged me for the move just to replace all the stuff that was destroyed during the move. PLEASE don't use their service just because they are a cheaper option than other reputable companies because you will end up spending a lot of money repairing the damages done.

  15. Where do I begin.

Worst moving experience EVER! Atlantic picked up our belongings on September 5, 2020. The movers who showed up were very nice and friendly but that’s about the only positive I can say about this entire ordeal. The movers walked through the house and proceeded to tag and load the items they were taking with them. They were in and out within an hour, which seemed fast but initially I thought nothing of it. Not long after they were gone my wife noticed not one but two boxes that the movers had tagged but forgot to take with them. Was my quote adjusted to reflect this, of course it wasn’t, I must be foolishly for thinking it would be.

After a month and 2 weeks our items, well most of them, finally arrive in Nova Scotia. The movers who did the delivery were not only rude but were extremely unprofessional. Letting boxes fall to the ground, handling boxes clearly marked fragile like they contained nothing but pillows etc.

Apparently this is the kind of service one gets for close to $3,000.

Now the fun part. We start unpacking and notice that some dishes and glasses were broken, we expected some of that so no big deal there. What we didn’t expect was for some of our larger items like my wife’s bike to be damaged beyond repair. Brand new lawnmower damaged beyond repair. $600 set of golf clubs missing. Boxes that were picked up are nowhere to be found.

After speaking with our account rep, we were sent a claims form and instructed to fill it out and send it back with supporting photos within 10 days (still in the process of doing this).

I called in to escalate the matter and spoke with a “manager” and let’s just say she “seemed” nice. Complete lack of compassion towards the issue. Voice just oozed with sarcasm and bitterness because I’m justifiably upset regarding the amount of money we just spent and the neglect and inconsideration we and our belongings were give . Was told by said manager that the claims department will handle this and it could take 6 to 10 weeks for this to be resolved.

Did I mention that the manager was very happy to reiterate that their insurance or liability coverage only covers $0.60 per pound. So quick math says that my brand new and albeit now useless lawnmower which was $300 to buy is now worth, if the tank is full, 10 pound times $0.60 equals.
