  1. Why are they still in business

Move from leesburg, Fl to Hudsonville, mi. Lost items, broken furniture etc. paid over $600 for best insurance. Had over $3000 in damages and lost items. Got a measly $260 back. They make all the promises and deliver zero. Never use this company

  2. Worst moving experience ever

They lost several items and are offering to compensate me for 1/3 of the value of them. In fact, they lost so many items that I cannot even determine the total quantity of lost boxes. The inventory was done incorrectly and it took 2 shipments over 2 weeks apart to get my things here when they assured me one truck would be enough. DO NOT use this moving company.

  3. Incredibly incompetent company

Stay away from this organization. Our experience thus far has been a sad disappointment. From not showing up on the day of packing to not informing us about storing our property, to loading our property onto a truck with another customers property and then using a Uhaul to store the rest of our stuff until they could find another truck to come get it, to not showing up on the day of delivery, the list of failures goes on. Their customer service help line is not worth the time it takes to place the phone call. Highly incompetent. The leadership team for Wheaton is completely insulated from the reality that their company is failing their customers. I tried to contact higher management to resolve my problems but was always redirected to the dismal customer service line. We are currently sitting in our new and empty house for another week waiting on delivery. Sad outcome for us.

  4. Extremely Poor Service--Less than poor

Wheaton Van Lines has been holding our belongings in storage for one month because, they say, they can't find a driver to bring our goods to us in Knoxville from Portland, OR. They have no solution and say they don't know when they will find a driver. This is a national company and they can't find a driver. We placed our move order 2 months prior to the actual pickup date at our previous residence so that means they have had THREE months to make this move happen. All I get from them is "we don't have a driver yet, have a nice day". We don't know what to do or how to get our belongings. We are frustrated by their lack of concern and their inability to find a driver within their own national organization.

  5. Worst Customer Service/Moving Experience of our Lives!

P.S.A. if you want the world’s worst moving experience of your life or of anyone’s life, hire Wheaton World Wide Moving. Their motto is “We Move Your Life”, it should be we will ruin your life. Now that we have all of our belongings I am writing this. Fear of retaliation by Wheaton encompassing more damages and more missing items kept me silent until now. But the 32 days from pick up in CT to the final delivery in Mississippi is behind us now, and I feel like people need to know what happened to not ever have to go through what we have.

When moving 1200 miles away, literally across the country, you have an important decision to make with a moving company. You have to have faith that everything you own will be handled with care, you have to trust that the company you are contracting and paying a large sum of money to sees you as more than a paycheck. Wheaton and Altherton are not who you can trust and have faith in. Moving/buying a home is one of the top stresses of your adult life. And for us this was supposed to be one of the happiest times of our lives, purchasing a home and property of our dreams. For 32 days it was not complete, we were unsettled. We were forced to buy things we already owned to not continue to look at the house of our dreams empty and unlivable.

Below is a summary of what transpired:

On 3/26/21 , CJ from Altherton & Sons Moving & Storage (Franchise of Wheaton World Wide Moving) came to the home to give us a quote to move our almost 6000 square foot home belongings in Manchester, CT to Booneville, MS. We were supplied a quote on 3/30/21 for $9,700 based on an estimated weight (16,400 lbs).

On 4/18/21 we locked in the dates of closings (CT and MS) and relayed this to CJ to lock in the pick up on 5/20/21 in CT with delivery in MS on 5/24. We were assured this would be done with a 53’ tractor trailer.

On 5/20/21 Altherton representatives arrived at our home in CT at 9 a.m. in two 20’ trailers. Around 4/4:30 p.m. they ran out of room and had to rent another 20’ truck. At this point we were told that they would be unloading the three trucks into another truck (53’) in the morning to go to MS. The multiple handlings of our home belongings was not discussed nor was it mentioned in the contract.

To understand that this company not only breeched the contract but have disrupted and put undue financial, physical and emotional stress where it was not necessary. There has been zero care and concern for my family and the results of Wheaton’s actions, no matter what approach we took to try to get them to resolve the matter quickly.

6/20, Father’s Day we received the additional 15% of our belongings. This equaled 88 total boxes. This was likely closer to 25% than 15%. Most of the boxes were damaged so severely that we feared the worst and in most cases we were 100% correct in doing so. Boxes with dishes were rattling with broken pieces before entering the house. Simply the boxes had been handled 6 times and stacked at least that many times if not more, and carboard boxes do not have the ability to withstand that much abuse.

To summarize, contract date of pick up was 5/20/21 with a final acceptable day of delivery 5/26/21. Final delivery received 32 days after pick up and 25 days after last acceptable date of delivery per the contract.

With so much on the final delivery we had to do all the work all over again. After moving things in every cabinet, every drawer, every closet, every outbuilding on the property we have finally completed this process. We are mentally, emotionally and physically exhausted. Mostly we are sad and still dumbfounded. None of this needed to happen. All of this could have been avoided. If they could not do the job they should have been honest from the beginning. We would have found another company that could have done it. And when things went badly from day one (pick up) there was no sense of urgency to rectify the issue. We were held hostage, as were our things.

Friends and family, PLEASE, do not use this company. Do it yourself. We wish we had.

  6. Horrible experience with Wheaton Van lines

I have done 16 intrastate moves in the past and have never had so many furniture pieces broken in delivery. My mistake was not getting full replacement but even with that I dont have confidence in this company that they would have had my items repaired. With that the claims department when I complained sent me a contact whose email response was an continually out of office. And now they will send me a check and with that they said 30 days at least to process. I must say this has been a horrible experience. In my other moves I had one or two items break, one it want furniture and two the company was quick to response. Again think twice before going with wheaton van lines and ensure to get replacement cost.

  7. Will not pay for item they lost

I have their own form for an Item of Extraordinaire Value. I have submitted this claim several times and they will not pay even though it shows right on their form that it was not delivered. The driver admitted it didn't show up. The painting was worth over $7,000. I paid for full coverage and many of the things they moved were damaged in shipment.

  8. Moving company was ok, but not the best!

I read a couple of horror story reviews of long-haul moving companies so ended up using a local company (that had good reviews) that uses Wheaton as their trusted long-haul moving company. Everything was good, up until waiting for our things. There was good communication about the process and our things were packed up on 12/7. In our contract, the pick-up date 12/8 with delivery between 12/14-12/24. Our stuff was in storage for 2 weeks because there was a shortage of long-haul drivers, the holidays, and the previous week, our stuff didn't fit onto the truck. I was only kept updated about the status of our stuff after I kept on following up via e-mail and calls. Our stuff finally came on 1/2 - 8 days after the agreed delivery date as per our contract. The furniture wasn't really damaged (except one piece) and one of the movers wasn't wearing a mask (which I had to ask him to put it on). No items were missing, except some detailed parts. I asked for a discount because the contract was broken, but we never got one. Instead of calling me back, I got e-mails instead. Overall an ok company, but not the best.

  9. Worst moving company! Do not use!

Wheaton Worldwide/Bekins is the worst moving company! Do not use! They packed our furniture and it was all damaged in transit! Truck was delayed, the movers were rude, the customer service communication was terrible! I could go on and on.

  10. Good with a few hiccups.

We consolidated from two houses into one and did not need/want to move most of the furniture from our house in Wisconsin to our already furnished house in Florida. So, there was less to move than you might expect. We knew that we would share a van with others. We were led to believe that our "stuff" would be loaded onto a van from our Wisconsin house and that van would go directly to Florida with a stop or two along the way. However, Stevens/Wheaton couldn't schedule the interstate driver. So, our stuff had to be offloaded into a Wisconsin warehouse and reloaded again when an interstate driver became available. We have a lot of fragile and expensive art so the unexpected loading, storage and unloading was worrisome but there was little that we could do about it since it was too late to find another mover. The best that we could do was to pay for extra insurance to better protect our artwork investment. Thankfully, all of our art arrived in good condition.

The other major issue revolved around unpacking. We paid for a heavy (~75 pounds) modern art mirror to be taken off our wall in Wisconsin and have Wheaton hire a 3rd party company build a custom wooden crate for the mirror's move (along with 5 other pieces of art in 5 other custom built crates). We were told that the company doing the crating would uncrate, setup the art work and take the crates away in the Florida house. So, we had anchors set in the Florida wall waiting for the mirror. When it arrived, the uncraters said that they had no instructions to hang up the mirror. When I called the moving agent she said that she would instruct the uncraters hang the mirror but upon further questioning, she said that she would need to add that service to my bill. I hung up the phone and tipped the uncraters a sufficient amount to hang the mirror.

Besides these two "surprise" issues, the move was as boring as we'd like it to be. Both issues could have been prevented by better planning and communications from Wheaton. I gave Wheaton a "Good" review because I expect to have a few disappointments during a move. The disappointments in this case were resolved with minor aggravation and some cash. Total bill was around $5k for one bedroom, several pieces of artwork, some lamps, TV's and about 60 boxes of "stuff". This price included the additional insurance that we believed was necessary due to the unexpected extra loading and unloading, and the extra tips necessary for hanging a very heavy mirror. So, no real problems; just a few hundred dollars more to smooth out a couple of issues.

The men that Wheaton sent to load and unload were very professional and communicated easily. The 3rd party craters were a little rough around the edges but OK. The original loading was completed as scheduled. The unloading/uncrating had a one week delivery window and it occurred within that week even though we had the extra handling and time in the warehouse. So, this review is "Good".

  11. Excellent experience.

I’m sitting here reading all these horror stories and felt I needed to add my review. Wheaton moved us from GA to NJ and it went perfectly! I think a lot of the reviewers don’t realize how moving works. Our local agency was great- I chose them specifically because of their reviews. I inquired about how they choose their drivers and workers and they told me they choose from the best Wheaton offers. That was true. But I also realize that’s because our local agency was great. Our driver was awesome. The local crew he brought was great and they worked their butts off. The delivery was a breeze as well. The local crew in NJ also worked hard and I appreciated them. Gratefully we didn’t have any damaged items. We did have one missing item, but the driver realized where it was and took the initiative to contact Wheaton for me to get the process of getting it back started. Wheaton corporate was in touch with me from before the move took place until after our items were delivered. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone- but you have to be careful about your LOCAL agency and how they choose their crews.

  12. Do Not Hire Them, Stay Away !!

DO NOT FALL FOR THEIR REVIEWS ON THE WEBSITE OR GOOGLE. These people will cause you pain that you can not even imagine. From the day my stuff was picked up, problems started. They will send their own driver but will send help that they hire from CRAIGSLIST (Unprofessional, and NOT PROFESSIONAL ASSEMBLERS). They banged/dropped my furniture items on the floor so many times, one guy took over 2 hours to un-assemble one bed. Packed bed parts in separate boxes, where no one will be able to find.

At the time of arrival in another state, is where things got worst and messed up my brand-new house. They brought different helpers. I feel bad for those people, but those two helpers didn’t have any strength at all. One guy even had a leg problem. I feel bad for them, but it’s the company’s problem who needs to understand and hire the right people. These guys started taking furniture items upstairs, and knocked off walls, and left big marks. Assembled my beautiful king size bed set and didn’t put the feet on the railing in the middle to support the weight, and put Mattress on top, so that no one can tell. As soon as we sat on the bed, bed Collapsed from the middle. Texted this So-called SALESMAN who I started this process with, that they need to take care of this, and call me. He called me back and yelled at me not to text him at 8 pm on his cell phone. He screamed the hell out on me that I texted him for that. Number 1, it’s his damn problem to give his cell number out to people. Number 2: NO MATTER HOW MUCH CUSTOMERS GET IRRITATED, NEVER EVER TALK SHIT TO CUSTOMERS LIKE THIS. I Will highly suggest not falling for this company’s gimmicks. They know how to sell but will f…………. up your expensive furniture. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. Later I realized they even messed up the railing on my second bed set as well and broke the wooden railing. So sick of these people. Filed claim with their department, and only received $60 to fix my $3,000 worth bed set.

My real estate agent took them off from their company’s recommendation list and will highly suggest my fellow friends do the same. DO NOT EVER FALL FOR THEIR TALKS. You will lose your expensive items, plus will be dealing with their claims department after the move. Rather hire someone more professional, and expensive company if you want worry-free move.

  13. In competent movers - Dishonest Claims department.

The move started off fine with Braun Moving of Stratford providing a professional estimate and then picking up items on time, professionally crating and wrapping. We paid over $1000 for insurance since we had valuable contents, figuring insurance would help if items were lost or damaged. We were so wrong!
The delivery side was a disaster. They evidently pack the contents of our home along with contents of 4 other homes in a very large tractor trailer driven by a cranky man who complained about all his driving. He then hires local laborers, who appear completely inexperienced, has them put on a Steven's T shirt, and call them movers. They empty the contents, and even manage to damage items that were crated upon opening the crates. We had a Steinway grand piano, and didn't know how to put the legs back on (we ended up hiring a piano specialist to put them back on). My daughter took a video of this clown show which we may post on social media. Aside from items being damaged, they picked up 278 items and only delivered 275 items with 3 items missing. We complained and noted this at the time, and even indicated this on the bill of lading. They told us file a claim and the claims department put a tracer but could not find the missing items. Months later when filing a claim, Wheaton Worldwide (parent company) claims everything was delivered and they wouldn't recognize or admit anything was missing. These folks should lose their license. I believe They sold us insurance without the intention of ever honoring the insurance. We paid over $16,000 and this is the worst moving experience I have ever had.

  14. Move from florida to ohio.

To start with they were 5 days late bring our things..then when they showed up they only had part of our things on the truck, so another truck brought the rest 3 days later. they only paid us for two days for breach of contract. The people who picked it up in florida Mr. Small Move, did not have a truck big enough for all our things so they crowed everything In, shoving things up against each other and banging things around..then the first truck from Stevens that delivered..same thing too small a truck, which resulted in holes punctured in box springs, scratched furniture, legs broken, one of my cabinets that I had in my bathroom was completely destroyed to the extent that it had tape around it holding it together! the listing of the items was unbelieveable..nothing was checked off when brought in the house..boxes were mashed..lots of things were broken. they actually bent a metal pole light I had. They scuffed the leather on our leather couches. My refrigerator, French Door with freezer in bottom..is full of dents and the sides are all scratched up..and it was full of black mold! My furniture was all bought new when we went to FLORIDA AND WE WERE ONLY THERE 3 1/2 YRS.
We are older, so we have no children living us. MY FURNITURE WAS IN EMACULATE CONDITION..In their letter to us it stated that it was noted our couch already had damage to it when they picked it up. There were NO notations on the bill of ladings about anything, not even the damage they did to our things.. They were missing some items, one listed, two others not listed. Things were taken apart by Mr. Small Move, and when delivered were not put back together. They ruined our nightstands which had touch bars on the back of them so you could plug lamps or anything in in them, even your iphones, cell phones etc.and just touch the back bar to turn the electric on and off. Mr. Small Move took them all apart and and Stevens refused to put them back together. after trying ourselves, part of the electrical things were missing. I could go on and on, but they are offering us only the least offered, as that is what we signed for..even though we had pictures, prices, and descriptions of all the damage. Said they wanted us to be happy and wanted to make it right..talked to them so many times. NEVER BEEN SO DISSAPOINTED IN A COMPANY (COMPANIES) IN MY LIFE. Used another company to moved down there, and should have stayed with them..Never the first problem. After viewing other peoples review, looks like this is the norm for this Company..My advise..GO ELSEWHERE!!

  15. Lost and damages our items!

Lost items and damaged our furniture! The movers were extremely careless with our boxes and items. Even the ones that said "FRAGILE"on it were simply placed in the middle of heavy items and placed upside down in our apartment right in front of our eyes! We have moved over a month ago and HAVE YET TO FIND A LOST BOX which they claim to be searching for but it could be anywhere from a storage place to another customer's home. So now, our hardly earned and personal items are who knows in whose hands.
This isn't our first move, we have moved across the country a couple times before and this is by far the worse and most expensive experience. We used them because they were recommended by someone but couldn't regret it more.
They picked it up on time and delivered on time but at the cost of losing and damaging items that cannot be replaced!
