  1. Bad moving experience.

The salesman from Wheaton/Mathers Bros in Raleigh NC quoted my weight at 5000 lbs. which is what the weight of household goods was on my previous move a yr earlier from Denver to Wake Forest, NC. That move was twice as far as this move and cost me just over 4k. Mike added a $515.00 shuttle fee to the estimate because a large rig couldn't make it up my driveway. On the day of the move they sent a 38 ft long van to pick up my stuff, instead of the normal 53 ft truck, charging me an extra $515.00 for a smaller truck. Go figure. Four days after picking up my stuff Mike called to tell me the actual weight was 7800 lbs and they were going to charge me another $1200 to deliver my goods. I ended up paying Wheaton $1700 more than I had payed North American to move me a yr earlier even though the weight of goods had not changed and I was moving half the distance of my previous move. It took Wheaton/Mathers Bros 13 days to deliver my things to Ft. Lauderdale, FL. In that time the truck made several stops in SC and FL before finally coming to me. When they unpacked there was substantial damage to two antique pieces of furniture and the finish of my leather sofa was severely defaced. Wheaton refused to pay for the damage to my sofa, even though I had purchased full replacement coverage. I have moved all over the country using many movers and Wheaton/Mathers Bros was by far the worst moving company I have ever dealt with.     .

  2. Lying Dishonest Thieves!

My move started in NJ when I was to expect a crew of 5 people, only to have 2 show up to pack a 2300 sq. home in what should have been 2 days that turned into near 5.  My company paid for this move so I was not allowed to pack or do anything which would have been ok had WHEATON did the right job and not cut corners to be cheap.  This crew was so slow they started to get sloppy in packing at the end because they needed to be out since I had a walk through and had to turn my keys over to the new owners (which they almost made me lose the deal).
Up to speed to now, near all my items came broken, missing or smoke damaged (due to idiots smoking in the warehouse where my items were stored and on the trailer when delivering to my new home) WHEATON TAKE ZERO RESPONSIBILTY in any of this, trying to blame everything on the customer.
I moved into my home on May 3rd and to this day I am still arguing with now the after 4 different claims people a Shannon Blitz (who is rude, uncaring and unprofessional) Upon moving items into my home there was damage to my front door, walls, and newly installed bamboo flooring.  At first round with this lady she told us that she would have to deny the claim as we did not notify anyone about the damage.  Our items were delivered on a Saturday and we had no one to contact, on top of that we have a middle man who was to deal with all our issues with the move and we did notify him later that night about the damage and missing items but because he was not a Wheaton employee we were at fault.  I DONT THINK SO. We followed the rules, the diver on top of that told us that we needed to make our own list and contact our corporate mover as they could not get involved.
Due to good packing, I have the following either broken to the point of I have to throw it out or needs repair.
3 whole bedroom sets (draws broke as they never took items out and it broke guides, wood ripped off, reinforcers missing, scratches and knobs missing)
2 Bed frames broken, 2 neon vintage beer signs broke which I am getting the least amount to replace, a printer which is being replaced with a lower end model, a broken dining set that has smoke smell damage (they will take no liability in the smoke damage) 4 boxes of broken xmas ordainments (not even acknowledging this on the claim) 3 leather couches with deep digs and missing leather only giving minimal cost to fix, broken dinner ware, cybis porcelain, and glasses broken but being paid out, broken TV being paid at a much lower price, another couch paid at a lower price, paying on my door and floor at near half of the cost to repair it and no allowance for install. Scratched dryer door with a hole in it that I replaced because it wouldn’t work right and since they did not give me permission to do so they won’t pay. broken shelf on my work bench they want to salvage the whole thing and its screwed to my cinder block wall now.  Missing DVD racks, 2 tubs of GEO track toys, and a devalt power driver that walked off with the crew.
On top of that Wheaton is mandating I use the firm they choose to fix my items, when the guy came to my house to look over the damage he introduced himself as “HI I’m Dan from Wheathsby guild, I am your adjuster I will be looking over all your damaged” not once did the man say he can fix things.  Than a week later I get a call from the same man that he was coming out to fix my grandfather’s clock, table and chairs, sofa and bedroom sets. WHAT where is your certificates that you are licensed to do all this work? Your now a MR.FIX-IT?? So I went online to do research on him and there is nothing on this companies web site that certifies him to do work of that kind the guy has a masters in FIANCE!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME WHEATON?? But I am told I must except this…….unprofessional.
I am not normally the type to do this but I had 100% full coverage and I should not have to be fighting for months on end to be paid to get my life back to normal.  Shannon, Michelle, Lori and Mariah do not know what they are doing they all tell me something different and try to go back on what they say.  The 2nd crew to deliver my items tried to steal my above ground pool, and walked off with my power driver.  I was told once I got my claim back whatever items where marked Salvage I could dispose of, so I did now they want my items.  Not only that some of the items I did not ask them to mark salvage and want it back.  I do not feel that I should be put out to have these people back in my home to do more damage and not only that most of the items have been disposed of.
Bottom line anyone reading this spend the extra money and go with someone else, the 100% replacement value isn’t that and they lie cheat and steal from you and take no responsibility in it.  They are unprofessional and rude.  I am unsure how they have such a high BBB rating as I see so many complaints just as mine out there.  My next stop is the BBB, than the movers association to file a claim with them, and I have spoken to a lawyer as well.

Greeting from Florida Wheaton we steal your stuff VAN LINES.

  3. Deceitful and useless.

We were told that the estimated weight was overstated.  It was understated by more than 10% (which of course we have to pay for). We were told (before loading) that we had a 3 day window for delivery that we had to be present for.  After 6 days in a hotel and 12 days since loading, the delivery is supposed to be in 2 more days. We were quoted (in writing) that the maximum value of our shipment for insurance purposes was $75,000.  The driver tried to have me sign that the maximum value was $67,000. We selected $500 deductible insurance.  The driver tried to have me sign (and pay an extra $200 for) $0 deductible insurance.  Of course the cost of $500 deductible insurance was more than quoted. We were told that the delivery time was flexible.  More than 8 days after loading, the driver indicated that delivery would only be on the day he had chosen.  He also indicated that if we had a problem with it that we should speak with someone else and hung up. After speaking with the driver, a call for immediate assistance to the sales rep. has gone unreturned by anyone for 3 days. Since our belongings have not yet been delivered, we don't know the condition of them.  This company is the worst I have ever done business with.

  4. Deceitful.

The company rep came to our house to do an estimate. He was very professional. We received the estimate via email a day later (on 1/18) stating to fax the estimate to them that day if we want them to pick up our belongings on 1/26..and if we faxed it to them later the pick up would be on 1/28.  We replied via email that we could not do that as we had to get in touch with HR department of my husband's company and they were out of office that day. The Contract/estimate was faxed to them following Monday  followed by an email that we would update them on the exact date. We did not hear from Wheaton after that until 1/24 when they called to tell us that the packers were coming the next morning 1/25 and they would load on 1/26. I was not ready for that. We rescheduled..packers on 1/29 and movers on 2/1. Driver never called me with times of pick up. I had to call him the night before. The two hired guys who loaded the truck were very nice and pleasant. THe driver less so. It was a good thing I knew his name from email because he never introduced himself. He had a female with him who came in my house and started working. I had no idea who she was - Wheaton employee or the driver's girlfriend? I still don't know. I talked to the driver (his name was Danny) about our timelines and my dates for airtravel and that we would prefer our stuff not be delivered on 2/11 since we had to drive to Salt Lake City to pick up our dogs from the airport. He said he would not deliver that day but didn't say that his wife had a planned surgery, that he would park his truck in Alabama for over a week or two..and that the company knew about it. The delivery dates according to our contract were supposed to be between 2/6 and 2/14 (we were assured by Elaine that it would not be as late as 2/14). The driver promised he would call me on 2/3 with a better estimate of the delivery date. He did not call. He did not call on 2/4 either.  We finally reached him on 2/5 via text..and he just replied he would call us later that day or next morning..of course we waited and he did not call. My husband eventually reached him and talked to him on 2/7 and the driver advised him that he plans to deliver on 2/18 or 2/19. We went spastic. I'm sleeping on the floor in an empty house in Georgia..with 5 pets. I have one change of warm clothes to fly to a Sun Valley, ID (a very very cold and snowy ski resort town). I have no dishes, no tv, no furniture. I was supposed to fly out with pets this weekend but our new home has nothing in it. No dog gates, no furniture, no litter boxes for our cats. There is no major supermarket like Target or Walmart within 80 miles of our new home. I cannnot get new wardrobe cheaply..neither I can get supplies for our pets.
The point is that Wheaton knew about this delay before they picked up our belongings and they did not inform us. We would have chosen another date/driver or another company. They were dishonest. They put our lives on hold. Paperwork for my professional license is on the truck..so I cannot apply for it in our new state). Their representative Tabitha accused me of knowing about the driver's situation - that I told her about it the day before. I had no idea what she was talking about. I learned about it from her. She was rude and unhelpful. We are hoping Wheaton will deliver our belongings ok. I will update on timeline and condition. Right now we are extremely upset. This whole delay will cost us thousands of dollars we do not have and our relocation package will not compensate us for. One good news - My husband's employer will not use their services ever again.

  5. Damaged Harley Davidson.

When movers arrived they unloaded the truck then got to the bike where they found the bike damaged on the rear fender. I was told they hauled many bikes before and not to worry prior to leaving Indiana. The bike shifted in the move and the hand tie down had gotten under the fender and the bouncing of the trailor made it tear up the fender. I am very unhappy that they did not send a person to look at the damage. I will not use this company again. They did give me so much per pound but that doesn't even pay a third of the cost I will have to pay. I have attached a photo of the damage.

  6. Do Not Let The Military Use This Company.

In my 22yrs in the military this is the worst move I have had. It all started a pick-up when they refused to put our leather couch, chair, and foot stool in crates. It only went down hill from there. Upon delivery it was discovered that several items were missing and a lot of items broken beyond repair. Broke foot board and head board of bed. Destroyed German Shrunk so badly that they had to take it back to their warehouse. (couldn't be set up) Knock wheels off the bottom of entertainment center. Broke kitchen chair. The list goes on and on. I would not recommend anyone using this company.

  7. I am heart broken.

Do not use this company. My family's 150 year old cherry wood dining room table that I had just had refinished to send to my daughter arrived with deep gashes on one leaf and one leg broken all the way through with the driver (or someone with Wheaton) having attempted to repair using wood glue and duct tape.  I had mistakenly accepted a $500.00 deductible on the move and so my reimbursement comes nowhere near the cost of repairing and refinishing for the second time in 3 months. I had asked them at the point of move to take special care of this piece, as it was a family treasure and had just been lovingly brought to perfect condition. What did they do, toss it in the back of the truck?? .

  8. Be ware.

We just moved to KS from MD under Military orders.  Wheaton moving personel "lost" an enire patio set, shed, and other patio items.  They left my daughter's dresser mirror in someone elses house which arrived destroyed a month later.  All cost was estimated at around $2,000.00.  They send me a check for a whole $143. bucks.  DO NOT sign the limited liability form for $0.60/pound or that is what you are going to get.  There is a thing called goodwill, it may seem they are saving money..we'll see at the long run.  The MD local sales company, Rainbow movers were not interested in my problems.  Awesome.
I have attached before and after Wheaton, great Americans.

  9. Damage without compensation.

HORRIBLE!! They were hired by the government to complete my military move. Multiple items damaged and destroyed including a brand new dresser and lost the screws to my desk. Initial settlement for damages gave very minimal compensation including a replacement value, which was half of what my desk was worth. Contacted Clara Barnett. I told them I didn’t just want minimal money but would like my desk repaired and my new dresser replaced. She agreed and stated they would take my old dresser for salvage. A new settlement was sent to me with no mention of replacing my dresser and exactly HALF the original settlement. Ms. Barnett denied stating they would replace my new dresser and stated the first offer is no longer available. I refused the offer again for reconsideration based on what I was told over the phone. No change. They refuse to answer the requests by Better Business Bureau and Angie’s List. Military members ARE allowed to request a different carrier. I would highly consider this incident when choosing a mover.

  10. Horrible from start to finish!

Horrible, horrible, horrible! From start to finish the experience with Wheaton was something I wouldn't wish on an enemy. The initial packing was haphazard at best. They were going to leave our belongings out on our lawn overnight because they were ready to quit for the day?!! Arrived in California nearly 2 weeks late. Meantime we're sleeping on a blow-up mattress we bought from Wal-Mart with no fridge, tv, chairs, nothing. The tractor trailer broke an axle in Texas is what we were told. Once our belongings arrive, the axle breaking in transit caused MUCH damage including a custom motorcycle and a computer - the list of damaged goods is too long to list here. There were things missing as well. After filling out laborious forms we received a check for $349.00 to cover all damages. I'm shaking my head as I type this out of disbelief. Needless to say, I went through more trouble to get repair estimates (as Wheaton requested) and resubmitted that claim to them (again as they requested) only to be denied the claim again. Moving is harrowing enough without the moving company throwing your belongings into boxes, arriving late with your things broken, missing, smashed beyond recognition. You will not be compensated fairly no matter what you do, and they may intimate that you're a liar, which, to me, is the most infuriating thing about the incident. Save yourself much stress and money. This review cannot relay to you the nightmare we went through because of this company. Don't make the mistake of picking Wheaton.

  11. The worst company ever.

I got stuck with this company because  military funded this move.  Not only having a bad distribution systems, the customer service is horrible.  Mike Chandler supposed to be the management but no management skills.  He does not return client's call & constantly on the phone? I still don't have my shipment from Ohio because they cannot find a driver?  And they are in the distribution systems' business.  All they told me this week was, "I'm trying.". Well you are not trying hard enough. My first shipment was not coordinated well either, on my 4 day weekend, I was spending my time in Indiana, 24 hrs prior, this old man called me to be there Saturday for delivery, he pressured me to be therem otherwise he does not know when will be the next delivery.  So I drove 1690 miles in one day to return to my house.  These people did not care if I was in military.  Some people just care about their bottom line & do not care about people's well being. If I were to pay out of pocket expense to move, I will use Mayflower any days.  Wheaton sucks!! .

  12. Worst Ever.

This was a miltary move for us from Oklahoma to Texas.  Worst movers ever.  The packers broke several things while packing that Wheaton did not cover.  The movers "packed" items for us that were left out and never arrived.  They then began to take things out of our trash can to take with them and yelled at me for not understanding how it is to be poor.  They argued the whole time at the house and began throwing boxes.  Told Wheaton, never heard back.  Six months after filing a claim, we can not get a response via email or phone or written letter.  Got a response when I called to speak to a supervior and the agent called me within like two minutes.  Almost like they don't want to pay and would rather us transfer to the military for damages.  Items missing, such as power cords and attachments to electric mixer not covered. Basically told so sad, get over it.  I am very disappointed. Noone was on time, either for the inspection, the move or delivery, Wheaton seemed not to care when we mentioned it. .

  13. Rude.

The sellers were finally moving out.  This company was in charge of their moving and packing.  This company continually blocked my driveway as I was moving in and had to be asked over and over to move their trucks out of MY drivewas so MY movers and cable guy could get in and out.    I asked them to move their truck out of my driveway so my cable guy could leave and they waited for about 5 minutes before they moved their trucks.  I guess their time was more valuable.  The black employee even use the "F" word at me.  VERY unprofessional.  He should be fired, how dare someone come onto my property and swear at me!!  This crew moved as slow as possible and were on my property for 10 hours.  The seller didn't have much as far as goods to pack, so I don't know what took so long.  This crew was so RUDE and unprofessional!  Wrods cannot express what a joke this crew was, rude and unprofessional.  They attempted to leave a large bag of trash on my property but my husband told them to remove it.  RUDE RUDE RUDE!!

  14. Stolen lenses.

Shady. I had a box set aside for items NOT to be packed. Nothing in that box was inventoried because it was NOT to be moved. After they had left I realized they had "packed" my set aside box. Upon receiving all boxes I went particularly looking for my two lenses..not to be found. In retrospect I know realize they were taking far too many breaks, going in and out of the house and too many of them. DISHONEST. I'm so upset.

  15. Terrible Company!

This company is absolutely awful. They broke a leg off our loveseat, destroyed three deck chairs, snapped pieces off our treadmill, and scratched and dented every piece of wood furniture we own.
