  1. Poor customer service.

    Please don’t use this company. I should have read the negative reviews first, but I didn’t. I can abide one or two things, but jacking up the price of the deposit without a single warning, trying to get me to sign a sales agreement without a price noted, forgetting to move an entire section of my house, damaging property without telling me, leaving trash at my old residence, and calling me a liar to my face is too much.     My family’s experience with 495 movers was not pleasant. After a sewage backup, my renter’s insurance covered a move under my plan. Decided to give 495 a try. Big mistake.
    Spoke with Josh on 27 June 2015, and the first words I said were “I am authorized a move through an insurance claim, and I’ve never had to file a claim before where I’m using a moving company; can you help walk me through this process?” He quoted me $200 an hour which was all-inclusive, accounting for packing materials, manpower, and the fuel costs. He then asked if I would be able to pay a deposit equal to one hour of work ($200). I told him I wasn’t able to pay the deposit, that’s why I was filing a claim through my insurance. He put me on hold.
    When he came back, he said before he could “lock-in” the date, I would have to pay a deposit. I could make the deposit on 30 June for a pickup on 1 July, after I got paid. Josh said that was fine. 30 June; I called back, but now the deposit was $400. Why the increase – it’s a short notice deposit and move date so now it’s doubled. That’s fine, I would have to pay my $500 deductible regardless. Josh thanked me and specifically told me on the phone “Since you’re going through insurance, when the crew gets done with the move they will hand you an invoice to pass to your insurance company.” I thanked him and hung up. (total estimate=$2,600)
    On 1 July, the moving crew called me with a few minutes to spare for their arrival window and asked for further directions to my residence. The driver was lazy and I don’t remember his name, but the two other crewmembers, Cisco and Charles were ok. I showed them around, and the driver had me sign the initial block for insurance or not, and attempted to get me to sign the other block where the move is over and done with. The segment which indicates the hourly rate, crew size, number of trucks, and the overall estimate of the move were all blank. I did not sign it for obvious reasons. (the driver was quick to fill out that he arrived 15 minutes earlier than he actually did though)
    While doing a walkthrough, I noted several gouges in the drywall on the staircase. Both the driver and Charles watched me take pictures, but neither of them said a word about it.
    When completed, the driver whips out his folder and informs me I owe them money and cash or check would be fine. I was only supposed to get an invoice to send to the insurance company. The driver says he doesn’t know anything about it, and I could pay with a credit card with a 5% surcharge tacked on. I tell them the insurance company is supposed to take care of the rest, per Josh’s instructions. Charles offers to call Motie, and Motie tells me the same thing. I inform him of the entire conversation I had with Josh. Motie tells me I’m supposed to pay for the move, and my insurance reimburses me for the cost, and his guys can’t leave without payment. He suggests I pay for the move minus the 5% surcharge, and he’ll settle with my insurance carrier.
    The next day, 2 July, Josh calls and he says that I never told him it was an insurance claim. I remind him of our first conversation. He persisted that I said nothing about insurance. So I quote the call verbatim, and he’s the one who informed me about the deposit, and the invoice to be sent to my insurance. He asked for my carrier’s number and I gave it. Josh hung up and called them, then called me back and said everything would be straightened out when I received the checks from my insurance. He asked if I could pay for the move now or would I have to wait for the checks. I told him I would have to wait. Josh sounded disappointed, mentioned again that I never told him it was an insurance claim, and that he would call me back within a couple days for a status update.
    Since starting unpacking, I’ve noted several things. They didn’t move my computer monitor, my wife’s mixer, took apart her vanity but did not reinstall it (mirror supports got tucked in a separate box), corn starch exploded in the pantry box due to crappy packing, brand new toy box and coffee table got scratched up, they didn’t pack up ANYTHING from my full bath, they packed kitchen utensils in a used mop bucket, and they left trash at my old place. There’s other things missing, but this is too long now.
    On 10 July, 2015, called Josh to make the payment. I tell him I haven’t heard back on the wall gouges or the damaged property. He sent me an email with the information afterwards. They also charged the 5% surcharge, but they did process a refund.

  2. Great moving experience.

    I hate moving but these guys definitely made it easier. From setting up the contract date to the move itself these guys were fast and professional and went out of their way to help. They gave me an estimate based on an hourly rate and were very clear. They then confirmed their arrival window and showed up right on time. They worked like speed demons but were very careful with everything.

  3. Easy Move.

    Very easy move from start to finish.  Gave me an honest quote and ended up finishing move cheaper/faster than expected.  They're professionals and know their business.  From the quoting process to the actual move, these guys don't mess around.  The movers themselves worked tirelessly without breaks to finish my move as fast and efficiently as they could while still taking care of my items.  I would use them again in a heartbeat.

  4. 495 Movers Are Incredibly Efficient.

    This review is regarding a move performed on April 23, 2015. This is officially the second time that I've used 495 Movers. The first involved me using their services to move furniture out of my condo and into storage. They not only moved my furniture into storage as planned, but arrived early, wrapped all of my furniture in a bubble-like wrapping, moved it onto the truck, transported it safely to the storage unit, and actually use less than half the space in the storage unit to store the furniture. All while also performing the job in more than 2 hours less than predicted. That specific service had me hooked.  This review current review however, is for my mom who needed movers, of which I recommended 495 Movers. The move that was done for my mom was actually even better than the move I experienced for myself. My mom needed her furniture moved from her townhouse into a condo. Not only did the movers do everything as explained above that I expected of them, but they also beat us to the destination when transporting the furniture from the townhouse to the condo! I was completely floored at how they actually beat me to the destination when I actually left ahead of them. Also, arguably more impressed with the fact that all of the furniture was still intact and not damaged. If you want efficient movers who will give you peace of mind regarding a move, 495 Movers are the best.

  5. Move with Confidence.

    I recently engaged 495Movers to move me 4 hours from my location. They arrived before normal start time of 8:00 a.m. The owner, Tom, was extremely accurate on the estimated costs of moving, although I thought it would take less time, it was exactly what he said because the three movers took there time to ensure boxes were secure (and if not, they took necessary precautions to wrap for benefit of no damages to property). We found that the prior movers who moved my items to storage had damaged quite a few pieces and they took photos for my insurance claim). Unloading was performed at the same level. I would highly recommend this company.

    P.S. I came to them by way of referral. My friend had to move from three locations in one day and they did such a superb job that I decided to move with them as well.

    I needed an immediate relocation. Company offers a thorough and accurate free over-the-phone and in-home estimate - both were very helpful. Upfront about costs. Cautious, considerate, and hardworking movers. Great teamwork and little miscommunication, if any. Moved two upright pianos. 12 hours of dedicated movers. Highly recommended. Thank you!

  7. Great experience.

    Prompt, friendly, and very skilled. I was fully expecting the move to take two to three times as long as it did, but did not realize they were going to get everything wrapped/protected and into the truck so quickly. Also a lot of calls to confirm the move time as well as confirm that everything was to my satisfaction, which was greatly appreciated. Would definitely hire them again in the future.

  8. A bit expensive, but Great Service.

    I actually scheduled this move a day before I was supposed to get all of my stuff from my apartment.  My original mover fell through on Sunday, the day before I was supposed to move.  I looked up movers in my area and found 495 Movers via Google.  They had a 4.5 rating and many good reviews.  So, I went to there website and filled out my information to get a quote.  Tom from 495 movers called me within an hour of my request!  He went over everything with me and though the quote was more expensive than I would have liked I went with it.  I was able to get move scheduled the very next day which kept me on schedule for my job relocation.  To say 495 Movers was a life saver is an understatement!  The guys who showed up were very professional and quick.  They took direction fairly well and were able to get me packed up in about 2 hours.  I would definitely use them again if I move, though I may have to save up a bit before I use their services again:).

    I received 5 different quotes from companies to move my 2 bedroom home from Takoma, DC to Silver Spring, MD.  Tom at 495 Movers followed up with a call to my online request for an estimate to get further information about my exact inventory.  He was plesant, professional and had an immediate sense of helpfulness. Believe me you want helpfull people around you when you're moving.  
    Tom emailed the detailed inventory as he said he would and when I provided my own list in a format other than their online list, he called to clarify a few things and immediately provided me with a quote.  I made my decision to go with 495 movers over a few othe least expensive moving quotes I had received because of his professionalism and follow-up with me.
    The moving crew called about 30 minutes before they arrived to my house to inform me they were on their way, but they showed up about 1 1/2 hrs early. Not necessarily what you want when you're planning ot get up early the day of your move and finish packing some last minute things, but the crew more than made up for it.  
    The moving crew of three cam in and IMMEDIATELY scoped out my place, decided on their plan of attack and went to work.  They hustled for 3hrs straight with out stop.
    I LOVE the fact that 495 has boxes/paper for those last minute things you can't fit in and they will even pack them for you!!
    When we got to my new place, they came up, took a look and the different rooms, I told them where the major pieces of equipment were going to go and they went to work.
    Overall, I was completely satisfied with their hard work and professionalism.
    I would definitely use them again and recommend them to VERY close friends :-)

  10. Moving Services.

    Handled a move with pickup, storage and delivery over a 7 month period.  Prompt service with excellent customer service.  Price quote given at start was held to and no extra charges were made.  Care in packaging delicate items was very good and we had no damage to electronics or dishware.  Deliverry was on time even though there was a snow storm.

    I moved from a high-rise apartment to a similar apartment in downtown Silver Spring, MD. The 3 gentlemen who moved my possessions were professional, courteous, and worked steadily. They continued to work hard until the job was done. Everything arrived in good condition and in a timely manner.  This was a one-bedroom move and they arrived a little after 9am and finished up around 3pm.   All my furniture was wrapped in protective padding and shrink wrap before the move.  They even helped with dismantling the bed and table and assembled them in new home.
    When we arrived in my new home, the loading dock was in a separate area further away from the apartment.  I felt bad that the guys had to trudge back and forth all that distance.  But they told me to stay inside in my new home and that they will take care of my belongings.  And they did.  I packed most of my belongings in numerous large boxes which were quite heavy and they moved them without any problems.  As for the cost, I felt that the cost was reasonable.  They also asked for 10% to 15% gratuity which I agreed to pay.  All in all, I was very satisfied with their moving service.

    Full packing service for my 4 bedroom house was great experience. They arrived on time and did excellent job. I will highly recommend them to whomever is moving soon. A day after the move, the owner motion called to thank us for choosing them! I wasn't surprise because all process was in the same level. Prices is all inclusive and there are no surprises with this company. Also want to mention Tom, the sells person, who was very gentle and with a lot of moving knowledge.

    This was a very short move but they drove about an hour to get to us.  Arrived on time, did an excellent job and finished a earlier than estimated. This site requires three hundred and fifty characters minimum to submit a review but I'm not spending any more of my time trying to think of something else to say.  I hope this has reached three hundred and fifty characters by now!

  14. Local Moves.

    My experience with 495 movers was excellent.  The initial salesperson walked through the potential size of the move by asking thorough questions and came up with a team size and time estimate.   It was very accurate, in my case, the cost came in less.
     
    My full house move was accomplished with no damage to any item, as well as no damage to my old house or new house.  The house I moved to is literally a just built house, I would have noticed any ding or scrape.  There was none.

    Marvin and his moving team were professional, and thorough, and very good at their work.  My experience was perfect.

  15. Issues with cost and promptness.

    We were a bit disappointed in the 495 Mover's service for the following reasons: 1. The movers arrived late - the company said they were coming between 8 and 10am, but they came a little before 11 am. The movers eventually mentioned that they were up until 3 am the night before moving a very big house, so this may account for the lack of promptness. 2. After packing up our stuff, they took a long time driving between our old place to our new place.  Accounting for driving speed of the truck, it should have taken them 2 hours and it took them almost 3 and half hours. I drove the route in my car and it only took about 90 mins to get to our new place and we were left waiting close to 2 hours for the movers. They have to drive slower in the truck, but I believe they took a slower route and hit traffic. This was a bit stressful since we paid the company by the hour. They did eventually subtract 30 mins from their total time after we called and complained. One of their excuses was they said they stopped for lunch on the way.  3. Poor communication between their office and movers - the movers were told there was an elevator to our apartment, when we told their office there wasn't one. The movers were a bit annoyed, but they did handle it well considering. 4. This company cost more per hour than other companies. They had three guys working on our place, and we have a relatively smaller apartment. So maybe it would have better to just have had two guys and paid less per hour. 5. I would also say they high ball their estimates. When they gave their initial estimate we knew it was way too high (saying they would take 12 hours to move a small 2 bedroom apartment, when other companies suggested around 6-8). It's nice that they came in under the estimate, but their estimate was so unrealistic that it wasn't useful. I'm guessing they have the high estimate since customers hate when movers end up charging more than estimate..I understand that, but there is also something to accuracy.
     
    There were good things about this company though: 1. The movers were professional, hard-working, and talented with disassembling/assembling items 2. They did not break any items and were careful about things. Extra wrapping, etc.   Big picture, I'd say you may be able to find a better deal with another company especially if you don't have too much stuff. I expected a bit more considering the cost of this company. If you want a trustworth company and you want to be sure no fragile items are broken then maybe this company is for you. The company seems more suited for large homes. We cared a bit more about time/money, so we'll probably look elsewhere in the future.
