  1. Extremely expensive for a small move

We had a small job (around 40 med boxes and light bags of clothing, 2 pieces of small sized furniture, all pieces are under 200lbs). The quote we got was a fair price. Movers also mentioned how empty their truck looked for the first time.

This made the move extremely easy for the movers - was finished well under 3 hours. In the end, we got charged double the quoted price! Would never use them again and will not recommend Metropolitan Movers to anyone.

  2. Unreliable, unprofessional and unresponsive

Long long story which I will try to keep short. Went with this company after getting quotes from several other movers. Price was cheapest for a cross-province move. The day of the move, they never showed up! All day the rep kept promising that someone was on their way. No one came. At 4:30pm, we decided to head out as we were driving from Ontario to Maritimes and we were all packed. Was assured by rep that movers would show up the next day so had a family member wait at the house the next morning.

The movers who showed up were NOT from Metropolitan Movers, they were a PEI company hired by them (and they were great). Turns out, my load was way bigger than the movers were told so they took what they could and left the rest for another crew (from where I don't know) to load on a truck and put in storage (where I don't know). This PEI company was awesome and they delivered my first load in a few days which was a pleasant surprise. What was not pleasant was the fact that they went back a couple of weeks later for the second load and could not get an answer from Metropolitan as to where my other belongings were so they left without them. A month later, I finally received my second load. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. THE TITLE OF MY REVIEW SAYS IT ALL.

  3. DO NOT USE THESE MOVERS

    DO NOT HIRE THESE MOVERS

Warning! This is a long review but well worth a read as we are not disgruntled or upset by the experience but rather full-heartedly don’t want anyone else to go through what we went through.

We hired Metropolitain Movers to move my elderly parents from 2 separate residences to a shared apartment with one other stop involved. So while they had few possessions there were 3 stops involved in this move. We were quoted $800 for a truck and $150 per hour with an estimate of 7 hours. So here is what we experienced:

    The Crew:

Two young men showed up as per contract. Although they showed up 2 hours late, making our timing to the booked elevators at a location unavailable for use. Unfortunately, they weren’t trained and had little expertise in moving. They didn’t know how to back the truck into places. They did not wear botties in the house, did not have any runners to protect the floor and didn’t even offer to wear masks (covid). Both commented on how much they hated management and were quitting (one the next day and one the next week)

    The Truck:

The truck was a rusted pile of metal and apparently broke down requiring maintenance. Something was leaking inside and many of our boxes were wet when delivered. It was also much larger than we’d requested.

The move itself got off on a wrong foot with the late arrival and went downhill from there. They didn’t protect the furniture resulting in scratches and dents in many pieces of furniture (see photos). The worst thing was the travel time between places. The first stop was in St Catharines, the second in Alliston. It took them over 3 hours to get to Alliston (normal time is 1.5 hrs) Their excuse was they had to get gas and maintenance on the truck. They also said that they didn’t have roaming on their phones, so they couldn’t use GPS to map our addresses and had to rely on paper maps. Because we knew they elevator wouldn’t be available to them once they arrived, because they were running so late, my brother and nephew ended up bringing all the items down to a loading dock so the movers ended up just having to carry them into the truck. It then took over 3 hours to arrive in Cobourg (2 hr drive) where it was now dark because we were so behind schedule. There were no lights in the truck so we gave them flashlights and outdoor lights so they could see. Had they backed the truck in, they could have benefited from the house lights but they didn’t know how to do that. Again, because they were so late, we ended up moving everything in the house to the driveway so that when they arrived, they could just load the truck. While all this was happening I had to place many calls to the superintendent of the new home where he was sticking around to get the elevator on service for us. We finally arrived at the new home at 10p.m. (we were originally to be there for 3 pm) Again, we ended up moving all the boxes and furniture from the truck to the apartment. We are middle-aged people and the reason we hired movers was to avoid having to lift things!

The kicker was at the end of the move when they wanted payment for 12 hours of work. We said we were not comfortable paying for the extra travel time (getting lost) and time to fix the truck. The crew manager, Vlad was not accommodating at all, made no apologies and my husband, who was having this conversation with him past midnight, finally said we were done and we’d call him in the morning. My husband did that and we generously paid for 10 hours even though I still feel we should have been compensated more as we did most of the work. We also spoke to customer service, Edward, during the move itself and received no apology, offer of support or explanation for why things happened as they did. I am dumbfounded that this company gets the reviews online that it does – my only guess is that they generate them themselves. I did my research and I was initially fooled because the booking team, Clarise in particular seems so organized and accommodating.

I’ve moved a lot and I know a lot can go wrong, but what made this move so stressful in particular was the unapologetic nature of the employees and their lack of professionalism and care for customers

  4. Worst move ever

We have moved a few times and this was the worst move ever. We contracted to move from a 3 bedroom house to a 3 bedroom house. They arrived an hour late, there were 3 movers it took them 9 hours and our old house to our new house was about 15 minutes away. They spent most of the time moving at a snails pace as they were being paid by the hour. Arguing amongst themselves talking on the phone when asked why it was taking so long we received argument that we expected too much and that we misrepresented the job. As the day moved on there was more arguing etc. Finally we get to the new house more arguing about how long it was taking there was still a few things left to move. Then they started talking in their language, I said this was not polite as we could not understand and was told not our business. They were in our home and then we were called racists. One of them told me to "FO" we told them that we would talk to their supervisor who they called he was worse than his employees good example set. We paid the bill to get rid of them and as they left yelling at us that they had us on vidio being racists we through them out and said we really didn't care anymore get out of our house. Somehow we got this company when we thought we booked a reputable company we really don't know how this happened.

  5. The worst

Where to begin? This was the worst experience I had with a move ever. They took 6 hours to do a 2-bedroom condo moving, with everything already packed and ready to go. The last company that I've used made the same move within 2 hours, with time to spare). The movers were super slow, not wearing a uniform, not wearing gloves, forgot to bring the mattress cover, and they spend the whole time horsing around and talking on the phone in a foreign language. They then destroyed a baseboard at my building (which I had to pay and refused to refund). And then they ripped my new office chair, and of course, refused to repay). And then they took a 1:30h lunch and CHARGED ME for this time. You can always expect some wear and tear on any move, but almost every single piece of furniture got damaged. And then the absurd charge: $750 (Which they tried to get in cash not to pay any taxes). Never again!

  6. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

The worst moving company, or company of any sorts, that you can ever deal with. Unbelievably unprofessional, rude and under equipped. The movers, customer service guy and "manager" all lied, repeatedly and badly, to cover up for the fact that they had apparently "forgotten" about my move. Showed up 3 hours late, in a rental truck with no tools or equipment whatsoever and tried to force me to sign the work order before they even begin! The manager in particular was astronomically rude and condescending, trying to make a fool out of me by telling me things such as "Ottawa is cold", "Diesel engines don't start when it's too cold" and "It's an act of God". When the movers did show up they told me they in fact they were not aware of the move before, and that they got the call to show up to my house in the same morning, and that this is not the first time that has happened. Also taking a closer look I noticed they had no real insurance or liability, and that they attempt to charge you money for ridiculous things (like an indoor stair!). All in all terrible service at a premium cost, you're better off doing business with another truly respected company.

  7. Fantastic Service!!!!!!!

I wish I could give them 20 stars. The movers came to our door at 9 AM as promised, wrapped everything twice to avoid damages and delivered everything in one piece, so so so happy I didn't experience the nightmare moves as my friends, I have recommended Metropolitan Movers to anyone who is looking to move successfully without additional headaches. Super Movers indeed.

  8. The absolute worst service I have ever had

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. The absolute biggest waste of money and completely unprofessional. Cant even express how terrible of an experience we had with this company. Did a terrible job at packing our moving truck to the point that my boyfriend had to unpack it all after they left and repack it. We have in a contract that we were supposed to have the service for 2 hours and after 2 hours the men said they had to stay for a minimum of 3. I spent half an hour arguing with them in the middle of our move that this was not what we agreed to and also spoke to their manager on the phone who was extremely rude and forced us to pay for three hours with the promise that we could contact customer service to get our money back the next day. The next day I contacted their customer service rep, Oliver, who was possibly the worst of it all. Yelling back at me on the phone and refusing to refund us our hour that we did not receive of service. AVOID THIS COMPANY. Would be better off doing the move single handedly myself.

  9. First long-distance move

It was a long distance move but well worth the work we put into it. These guys were very easy to work with and within a week we were able to reserve the move and lock in our dates as well as the rates. As promised the delivery showed up on time actually showed up a couple of days earlier than expected. This was my first long distance moving, so I didn’t really know what to expect. It was a relief to know everything is fine. These guys are great, I can recommend their long-distance moving service.

  10. Moving and Storage Services

They gave me a great deal for packing, moving and storage, the whole thing ended up costing me $3,000 for my home full of items. They are a wonderful group of professionals and it was a pleasure to speak with them every time. We had a large move and I never thought it would be this easy or stress free. The pricing was fair & reasonable. They recommended 4 movers and I am glad I agreed. And the fact that nothing was damaged is also a big plus for me. I have never experienced such a smooth move. Highly recommend.

  11. Used this company three times

I have used Metropolitan Movers three times this year and they were fantastic! I have recommended them to countless clients and friends and they are always happy with their move. That’s what I call a reputable company. They are always ready to offer options and find a spot in case of a last-minute move. Would definitely recommend and would use this company again if we had to move.

  12. Moving

Decided to go with Metropolitan Movers and overall service was good, very friendly & cooperative staff. Better than expected, they do really care about their clients. I'd recommend them to anyone looking to move soon. Thanks a ton guys for moving us without any problem. It was kind of a last minute move, so it was quite challenging. I can give you 5 stars!

  13. Uncoordinated and unprofessional

Chose metropolitan movers based on reviews and the professional courtesy exemplified during my selection process. I made it clear and provided pictures of my baby grand piano and they advised they were well experienced in moving such a piano. They assured me multiple times that it would be no problem. The day of the move the workers were stumped on how to move it and argued with their office for at least three hours that they could not do it. They did not move other items during this time but sat around, argued AND BILLED ME FOR THESE WASTED HOURS. Four guys standing around a piano with such a big move was unbelievable to me at over $200 per hour. It resulted in much yelling and totally unprofessional character and made our move absolutely horrible and tense. The movers worked hard , however they were rough with items so if you have expensive furniture, fragile boxes/items packed, or specialized furniture I would not recommend them (or get a pod for such items and specialized movers for unique furniture). We got a pod luckily, but would have either gone with a different company or specialized movers for unique items had we known our move would be a problem for them. Some items (desks, chairs, pictures) had noticeable scratches, stairs and flooring was scratched badly too. I move every 2-3 years, and things always happen during moves, but difficulties were handled poorly. I will not be using metro for my next move.

  14. House moving

This company relocated my furniture from Hamilton to Richmond Hill within 6 hours time. My belongings were delivered in good condition and nicely put in place the way I directed them to. Movers were excellent in their work, real professionals. I was delighted to work with them.

  15. Great movers!

What a great move it was with Metropolitan Movers, definitely the best movers I ever hired. Josh and his team knew exactly what they are doing. Work fast, know how to deal with all the furniture, equipment and appliances. Thank you again to the moving crew and take care of yourself. You guys are great.
