  1. Grossly over billed from Quote - Physically threatened Female Staff.

I am writing to report an incident with the Edmonton Branch of Metropolitan Movers involving being grossly overbilled for a small move and the movers themselves acting physically threatening to our female staff.

We had hired them to move our office (approx. 800 square feet, 20 pieces of furniture and about 50 boxes) 4 blocks away to a new location. We received a quote for 3 hours, for 3 movers at $150 per hour. As well as an additional cost of $45 to move our photocopier. In total, we expected to be billed between $600-$750 dollars.

On the day of the move, the mover in charge told us it was his first day on the job and openly admitted to not having much moving experience. Partway through loading the truck, a fourth mover showed up that we found out they started billing us for. Through the loading process the movers would sit in their truck for close to half an hour (racking up billable time) before coming to the office for the next load. It took them close to 6 hours to load up the small office mentioned above.

When they arrived at the new office, again, they would take 20-30 minute breaks in between bringing loads up to the office of complete inactivity (racking up billable time.) We tried multiple times to reach the owner during this process to express our concerns about the ongoing delays with no response.

The move (of one 800sf office with less than a truckload of items, 4 blocks total distance) concluded at close to 9pm. At the conclusion of the move our staff refused to sign the final work order and instead insisted that we speak to the company owner to express our concerns. At that time the movers PHYSICALLY THREATENED OUR FEMALE STAFF by blocking their ability to walk down hallways, physically imposing themselves in their personal space, yelling, and trying to physically trap them in cornered areas. Our ladies were very distressed and were only allowed to leave after they said they would call the police.

We attempted to call the owner of the company multiple times to discuss these issues with no response, 2 days later $2100 was billed to our credit card and to date we have received no response whatsoever from the owner of the company.

  2. These guys are amateurs and butchers.

I moved with these guys a few months ago. I had very little to move as I ordered all new furniture. They moved 2 televisions, computer desk and a mattress set and a few pieces of furniture,. The majority were boxes. They arrived on time and all was good
until I reached my new home and I waited and waited till I received a call that they could not find the location. They told me they had a mishap on the way. They hit a rough patch of road and my computer desk and hutch broke in 20 pieces. They gave me a decent credit and after they left I noticed one TV screen (50")was distorted by objects hitting it and my other TV (60") was scratched and damaged in many places. I did not find out for a few weeks about the destroyed TV because I was waiting for a company to set up furniture in a spare room I was using for a den. They refused to do anything so I am in the process of suing this company. All the addresses they use are fictitious. There is no one at these locations. STAY AWAY FROM THESE GUYS !!

  3. Worst Move Ever.

Cost over $2200. Worst ever experience. Guys just dumped stuff. Putting furniture upside in our new place. Sideboards placed sideways. Drawers not inserted. Furniture dismantled. Place looked like a war zone. Paid for 2 trucks, but they brought the second small sized and so had to make second trip costing more money and time. Terrible Terrible. Do NOT TOUCH THEM WITH A BARGE POLE! And took away our brand new dolly. Asked them to return. Still haven't heard back.

  4. Terrible Company!

By far the WORST experience I've ever had with a moving company. They damaged our floors, our walls and our fridge and refused to acknowledge it. They told me on the phone they have "a good reputation and fantastic movers"..funny how since a week before our move, they did my friend's and damaged his fridge as well. I will NEVER hire them again. Blatantly disrespectful, and told me the damages were already there "before any move had occurred" If so, I asked to see pictures and they could not provide me with any. We also had to buy a new fridge! Unnacceptable! Do not hire!

  5. Worst movers.

I moved from glenwood Windsor to LaSalle and this MOST unprofessional mover fleeced me for thousand extra dollar by wasting lot of time Three workers were simply arguing and instead of packing busy in talking with family people most of the time. Except one rest two were highly unprofessional in actions. They charged for hours but wasted my time because they had no packing supplies. Two of them went to do shopping during time charged to me.
I will strongly suggest not to entertain this mover at all. They are limpets eat on others.

  6. Top notch.

Finding myself in a bind I contacted via telephone. Moving day came and although I did have to call to find out an ETA, my call was answered and the truck with a crew of 3 arrived. Rather than going into everything that was completed well, my goods were either blanket wrapped, stretch wrapped and put onto their truck and unloaded and put into a storage locker with VERY little room left over, the crew departed 5 hours later leaving me a very satisfied client..

  7. Disappointed.

We had used this Company in 2014 and were impressed with the service. We recently moved into a storage unit . I requested the same crew which I was told they were available and booked. Moving day it was not the same crew which caused disappointment from the get go. They were very hard workers but they lacked stacking skills in the truck and storage unit. They did not take the care that I would expect. My husband was there asking them to stack and sort in a way that made sense but they rushed and just basically dumped everything into storage unit. Very disappointed in the service.

  8. Great Job.

The four guys (Smitty, John, Jeff and Tatu did a great job. Very careful and professional and it was a good experience. No damage at all and there was heavy stuff to lift.

  9. The worst mover!

I just asked for their service last july 30 fro pick and delivery to grande prairie today august 6. They were so clumsy when it comes to moving/arranging my stuff in the truck. The worst part, the manager who gave me the quote told me the entire pick up and unload will take approximately three hours but the entire pick up and delivery took 7.5 hrs excluding the travel time of 5 hrs which I also paid. They were so slow when they were delivering because they broke my microwave and they just want to give me a discount instead, which I did not accept.

In addition, during the discussion with the manager, they stop unloading my stuff which prolongs their hours which was noticed by everybody in the building. This was the worst move I had in my life. The initial quote of 2350 ended up to 2992! From the initial 3 hr work it ended up to 7.5 hrs.

  10. NIGHTMARE of a move.

I would NOT recommend using them. I just had a nightmare of a move last night. Not only were they 2 hours late, but they left a massive scratch on my bedroom flooring due to mishandling of furniture.. and because I didn't spend an extra $200 on their insurance they aren't liable. It's going to be difficult for me to love my new home when it's literally the first thing I'll see when I get up every morning. Their services also didn't come cheap. I paid $740 for 3 hours (3 movers).

  11. Pulling my hair out.

    DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY

First, they moved so slow. They took 2.5 hours to move a 2 bedroom that was mostly bins. One guy did not even do anything. They would take a couple of items down at a time and take forever to come back up.

When we arrived, we had to help them move everything upstairs because we only had so much time left. The one guy then decided to sit in his truck the entire time.

Lastly, they damaged our walls while moving because they had no idea how to move properly.

That was the final straw. We managed to get some money off of the final price, but it was still more than it should have been.

Please for your own sanity stay far away from this company.

  12. Move from Niagara to Toronto.

Firstly, I have never seen movers move so slowly. At one point, they were walking to the truck, picking up one cushion, and walking to the house. It was clear they were moving deliberately slowly as they were paid by the hour.

Secondly, they could not get a sofa into my condo - a sofa that is normal sofa sized, and left it in the foyer.

Thirdly, when I complained to the company, I was told that they had been informed that it was being dealt with by the franchise owner, Joshua Albert - he WAS the man who did the move, and about whom I was complaining about working too slowly.

The move took eleven hours - they claimed it took them three hours to drive to Toronto, but I drove the same route and it took me an hour an a half, and it was against the flow of traffic.

The move from a two bedroom house to a condo, with a stop over for storage, cost me over $2000.

  13. Worst moving experience ever.

In 2018, Metropolitan movers sent a representative to our house to help us plan our move of furniture and appliances into storage and then to bring it back. We even got the email a few days ahead confirming. But the day of taking furniture out was plagued with sloppy, unprofessional and unprepared moving team. They did not reserve a truck and weren't going to come! I couldn't find another mover on the same day, so I asked them to try. Then they brought a truck that was too small and they had to make two trips - they tried to charge us extra for the second trip. They said they won't use protective blankets unless I buy or rent them on the spot. They were supposed to pack up my china but they did not have boxes and spent time wrapping items in plastic that they didn't need to. One of the movers wasn't strong enough and almost dropped a china cabinet. On the day scheduled to return my furniture from storage, they were rude, slow, and I found damage clearly done by them on my stove, fridge and dining table. They didn't know how to park the truck on my driveway and damaged grass and garden. It cost me hundreds $$ more than what the representative led us to believe and each move took all day. When we called the company to discuss what they can do to offset the obvious damage to our stove, they said they will discuss with management and ignored us after several follow up calls and emails. I have used movers in the past and never felt so stressed, disrespected or ripped off as I did with this company. It took me a long time to write this review because I was so upset.

  14. Incorrect Charges on Mastercard.

Be very careful with Metropolitan Movers Thunder Bay. When Matt and Melinda moved to Thunder Bay we originally asked for 2 men for 4 hours then changed to 4 men for 4 hours. They ended up sending us 2 men who stayed for 3 hours with no truck. The movers were great and when done shows me bill for $406.80. When my credit card statement came the bill was for $632.80 a difference of $226 dollars.
Tried contacting the company and left voicemail and emails however no one contacted me back. Finally today I spoke with Warren Barns in their billing department and he informed me we had to pay for a truck, even though the guys showed up in their personal vehicle, and also it was past 3 days so my complaint window was over.

This is not against the movers who did a good job I’m upset about getting robbed of $226 dollars by the company. So please if you use Metropolitan Movers in Thunder Bay get the price in writing and check you credit card right away.

  15. Negative stars.

These movers damaged our sofa moving it (it got covered in grease because it was not properly protected, and the movers were careless). The owner of the company made a deal with me that he would arrange to have someone come clean the couch at his cost. He even told me he would take $100 off the bill until I was satisfied with the cleaning. He has since been screening calls and has not returned any of my voicemails or emails. Disappointed is an understatement. I would not recommend this company if they were the last option to choose from. In addition to the above, several items were broken. One of the movers carried one lightweight item at a time from the second storey to the truck. It took us several hours longer than anticipated to pack and load the truck, leaving the buyer of our home to wait. Their service is shameful and the owner of the company is incredibly dishonest. Do not trust them with your move.
