  1. Open road moving and storage is a scam.

Open road moving and storage company was scammed out of our $3780 deposit. First week of August, we planed to move from California to Boston. We talked to open road moving company. They gave us the price and we gave them $3780 by debit account ( that was a huge mistake) and $1220 by credit card. Totally $5000 deposit. We signed a contract. The pick up day was 19 of August. Unfortunately, they hired a truck company to show up in front of our door on 19 of August, and came into our house with on name and handed us another contract which double the price on the original contract we signed with Open road. Then they left. We tried call open road moving company and talked few times. No one could help us because they do not care . They got our money already. Open road moving and storage company is a scan. Once they got your deposits. They only need to hire a truck company to show up on the pick up date and gave different resson to not do the service. End up we stuck with full of boxes in the house and stayed in a hotel for few days to find another moving company.

Please take our advice. No one never use open road moving company Like us . The reason we move to Boston because our daughter will start college by beginning of September . We almost miss her first day school because open road moving and storage company scammed our money and did not do the move service.
By the way. Learn from our mistakes, you should never use debit card for any deposit. Once they get it. You money is gone. No way, you can get back. We und up got $ 1220 deposits because we cancel the credits card.
My name shan Liu . I will prove all the documents to show open road moving and storage is the best scam if anyone want to see them.

  2. Open Road Moving and Storage.

This is the most unreliable company I have ever used. I've lived in every time zone in the the US and have moved at least 8 times in between states and have never had this horrible of an experience. I only had them moving furniture from a 1 bedroom home and of that they lost the most valuable box and several pieces of furniture. Now, two months later, not a single person, after calling at this point daily, can tell me even where my belongings are or when they will be delivered. Last week they told me this past weekend. Not only was it not delivered, they couldn't tell me the name or contact of a driver, and now they cannot even tell me where it is. This company is flat out stealing. This is far beyond poor customer service, it's outright theft followed by incessant lies to cover it up. Do not let this company near your home or belongings.

  3. Poor communication. Low estimate. Damaged belongings.

I first contacted Open Road in early June for a complicated cross-country move. We had a six week gap between our house in Eugene, OR and an unknown destination in rural southern Maryland. I chose Open Road because they continued to answer questions and flex with my changes. Mike and/or Jim told me that storage for our items during the gap would run about $175 for the month, and it would be prorated for the amount we actually needed, and the first month was free. I did not get this in writing. Our initial quote came to just under $5000, including loading, unloading, disassembly and reassembly. I paid $1268.87 over the phone.

The day before, I got a call from Northwest Relocation, who told me I owed them another $2500 to pay for half. The movers showed up in a dirty, unmarked truck. This was the first time I heard that Open Road was a broker and I was shipping with GTS shipping. GTS told me that I had more items than the initial inventory indicated (which I expected), but it was worse because GTS counted each part of the disassembled furniture as a separate piece, which Open Road had not done. The driver gave me a new quote that included the new items. GTS shipping did not have an accurate total for what I had already paid, so I had to pull my receipts up on my phone and fix their accounting myself to pay half of a new estimate (an additional $672.13). The men who loaded my belongings told me that I could call in a few days and get the actual moving weight for an accurate measurement. GTS did not bring tools for disassembly, so they borrowed mine. After the movers left, I found miscellaneous hardware from our custom-made bunk bed on the floor in a bedroom.

I called Open Road a few days after the pickup to get the actual moving weight. I didn't hear back from anyone. I called again a few days later, and someone told me they would check on it and get back to me. They didn't call me back. I got an email from GTS shipping telling me I needed to pay them $1783.30 to pay for 50% of my move because I had been over the estimate. Every time each person told me I was paying for half. At this point I had no idea where my stuff was. I did not see a shipping inventory or weight ticket, which I had been promised. And because I was no longer working with Open Road Moving and Storage, I had no idea who was legit and who was scamming me. I just kept paying everyone who called.

So I moved across the country. A week before my month of free storage was up, I got an invoice for NINE HUNDRED DOLLARS to pay for storage for the month of August from some other subcontractor. I called the storage company (Scout Moving) and they told me they wouldn't prorate it unless I was out by "the first couple of days of August." (Remember that Jim had told me "about $175" and that it would be prorated.) I emailed Open Road and did not hear back from them. I finally got Scout Moving to agree to prorate, and I paid $426 for two weeks, which was about four times what I expected. I STILL had not seen a weight ticket, nor a total for my move. I still had no idea where my belongings were being stored.

We rushed the closing date of our house purchase in order to get our stuff out of storage on time. The shipping company (maybe still GTS?) called me and said I would need to have a cashiers' check ready with $2009 in order to receive our delivery. By this point I had paid four different totals to three different companies, and Vicki's voicemail said that $2009 was "half the balance." Was it the remaining half? In no world does all of this add up to half. I have no idea.

When we finally received our delivery, the $2009 was to complete the balance, and brought us to $0 owed. Total: $8233, which was almost double our initial estimate. I was initially planning for about $6000.

And then they began to unload.

I pack VERY well -- the movers loading our boxes in Eugene commented on it -- and almost all of our boxes were crunched, ripped, and mangled. Though we don't seem to be missing anything, many of our boxes had been opened and retaped, particularly ones marked "electronics" or "master bedroom." The Xbox360 was OUTSIDE of the electronics box, floating free in the truck, and was handed to me by the driver. GTS Shipping lost much of the hardware for the bunk beds and part of the hardware for the futon. The delivery company refused to set up the bunk beds because it was "custom furniture," so we found out about the missing hardware the next day when we assembled things ourselves.

Additionally, some of our belongings were damaged. The shippers mangled the fenders on my daughter's antique bicycle and the supports for a storage shelf. One of our tables was no longer wrapped in blankets (it was wrapped initially on packing) and has several new scratches on the wood surface. Two sentimental mugs that were wrapped in bubble wrap were broken. Our freezer is now cycling constantly. Our current total for repairs and replacement is about $350.

Finally, the delivery driver tried to give me many items that didn't belong to me. I actually don't own a vacuum, so I know it was not mine -- but that means that someone else who used this company is missing a vacuum, some wrapping paper, cushions for their couch, and garden tools.

So I estimated too low for the amount of items I shipped, and that influenced our total. But I was also unnerved by the number of times I had to pay some new amount to some new company, with no documentation whatsoever. I was very disappointed that my storage total was shockingly different from my initial quote. And I am still repairing and replacing things that should not have been damaged. Some of these things are not Open Road's fault, but better communication from the broker could go a long way in helping my move feel secure.

  4. Ideal relocations.

Open Road Moving and Storage is the relocation company everyone should go for. I can proudly say this because I know very well how they perform in their field of work. Earlier this month I hired them out to relocate me from Texas to Illinois, they proved beyond any reasonable doubts that they are perfect for the task. The crew worked with hope and morale. I could not imagine they would take such a short time to clear the entire process. They made me see the power of coordination and unity. I believe in them and will make sure they facilitate my next relocation. Your services are very ideal and I appreciate the effort. Open Road Moving and Storage is the best you can opt for when it comes to ideal relocations.

  5. This was unique.

I have hired out several companies before. I have moved using other movers but none of them gave me the services similar to those of Open Road Moving and Storage. These people were so different. These people maintained so much composure. They were there to ensure nothing went wrong. What thrilled me most is the fact that they were willing to go the extra mile after relocations. They came handy in sorting out the individual properties. My sincere wish is that I could have known these people early enough. It could have been so wonderful.

  6. Above the rest.

In the relocation industry, there are very many companies that claim to offer the best relocation services. It may take you sometime to know the best one out of all though alternatively you can listen to experiences from other people and make the judgment. Recently I discover the best relocation company in the industry - Open Road Moving and Storage. This relocation company is way different from the rest. For instance, the hard work with their crew is not evident with any other company. They are not only dedicated but also timekeepers, values that many companies lack. They are the best I know of.

  7. Worst Move Ever.

THIS WAS THE WORST MOVE I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED DO NOT USE THEM. Instead of listing all the horrors and complaints I have about this company/my move. I will give you solutions of what to do if it's too late and you have already hired the.

-Write to the Attorney General of the state in which the consumer victim resides at the time of contracting and also Florida, given Open Road Moving and Storage offices are there. These days you can do most of this online, via FMCSA. After 2-3 days call local offices of FMCSA with the case file number. This helps push the claim up the priority ladder.

-File formal complaints with the US Department of Transportation, the Federal Motor Carrier Association, the American Moving & Storage Association, and the US Movers Association

-Perhaps it’s worthwhile to open a formal complaint with the Federal Trade Commission’s Bureau of Consumer Protection and the Better Business Bureau

-Don’t forget the other consumer websites, like Consumer Affairs, My Moving Reviews, Moving Scam website,

-There’s this consumer advocate agency geared specifically toward helping scammed movers called Move Rescue. Contact them for advice (800-832-1773).

  8. Total scam!! BEWARE. Open Road Moving and Storage.

Biggest scam artists!! Beware. Do not use them. They quoted one price based on what I told them. I had a 5x10 storage unit with 40 boxes, 2 tv’s, a couch and a table. He said to be safe he quoted 69 boxes. The quote was $1599. They’re a middle man. The actual movers showed up and immediately knew the items were over the cubic feet they estimated for. How do you screw that up. I emailed them and their response was that I signed the contract. The contract states that the cost would go up if you add items or it takes more space. We did NOT add anything nor did we have more than we told them. They are the ones who estimated the cubic sq feet and screwed us just to get us to sign the contract. Then they send me an email stating I refused service when the movers already took my stuff and we had to pay more for them to do so. They tried blaming me for the increase when I clearly stated the size of the storage unit more than once. They don’t care about scaming people. They’re nice while trying to get your business. After that, it’s putting the blame on the consumer ??. They estimate the volume not the consumer. They underestimate on purpose!!

  9. Reliable relocation services.

It is almost a year since they worked for me. Not that I forgot to appreciate them immediately after they offered me reliable relocation services. No! It is only that I am not in the habit of writing reviews, so I did not see the need of writing one. However, my mind has not been in peace. I just feel I did not appreciate them much enough for the good relocation work they did to me. Without them, I do not know whether it could have been possible to relocate to New Jersey from Alabama with the less cash I had. Thanks to them, however, it was all possible. I appreciate your efforts in ensuring I secured impressive relocation deals.

  10. Very professional, fast and effective.

The movers from Open Road Moving and Storage were awesome. The movers I had signed with earlier on, cancelled the move very late and so I needed to move within a very short notice. I contacted Open Road Moving and Storage at the last minute, and they came to my rescue. There is a hassle-free service, very professional, fast and effective. I totally recommend Open Road Moving and Storage.

  11. Quickly and smoothly.

I needed a professional mover to handle the relocation of the small office where I work. After researching online, I entrusted Open Road Moving and Storage to undertake the work, which they did to perfection. They made the process much less of a headache as they accomplished the relocation quickly and smoothly. The bonus of using this company is that my boss commended me well. My move with Open Road Moving and Storage was simply perfect. The pricing was very reasonable compared to other companies. I can also say that their sales representatives are very responsive as well as accommodative seeing that they slotted my move within a short notice. They are punctual and accomplished the move with hours to spare despite the traffic snarl up in Miami.

  12. So easy and smooth.

The crew from Open Road Moving and Storage moved our things from our two storage units and our apartment in Atlanta, Georgia, to our new residence Toledo, Ohio. It is unarguably the best cash I spent the entire year. They were superbly professional and cared for my things as if they were their own. Thank you Open Road Moving and Storage for making our relocation so easy and smooth. I am the third member of my family to have used Open Road Moving and Storage and guessed what - we are all very satisfied with the service of the company. They don’t overcharge clients, and their service is always awesome. With such excellent service and reasonable charges, Open Road Moving and Storage will only continue getting more business and growing.

  13. Bait and switch approach how unethical.

We were quoted one price by this company and paid their required deposit. Then when they showed up they required us to tear up that contract and sign one for double the weight!

Since this was an agreed upon estimate I did not feel that I had to be present for a small one bedroom apt move for our son. They intimidated my wife into signing a new contract at double the weight and cost threatening her with the lost deposit.

What ashame this company should not be allowed to conduct business and certainly did everything possible to be unethical. DO NOT EXPOSE YOUR FAMILY TO THIS TREATMENT.

  14. Don't Hire them.. Unprofessional and Poor Behaviour.

    Beware..
They are Broker and have unprofessional & irresponsible behavior.

We choose Open road moving and storage for moving our stuff from Az to IL. First, they said they will reach our place at 12 pm, but they reached by 7 pm in the evening, still, it was fine for us.

They took our stuff on 23-June-2018 and after reaching Illinois we mail the moving date as 03-July-2018. But till date (14-Aug-2018) we didn't get our stuff. We are following up with them every day, every week, most of the time they don't answer it, if they answer, they give some or other excuses. Like we deliver stuff within 30 days, when 30 days are over then we don't count holidays in those 30 days. And when all 30 days are over excluding holidays, they are lying and said your moving date as per carrier is 03-Aug-2018. Or we will talk to our carrier and let you know the date. Or you request for 1 month of storage, which we never did. From last one and the half month, we are living without any household stuff. They are just a bunch of liars. Please don't hire them. We are really frustrated and fed up. Don't know when we will get our stuff :(.

  15. Professional, trustworthy and careful service.

Open Road Moving and Storage were recommended to me by a friend who had previously used them and I thank her because my move became so much easy with this company. Theirs is a professional, trustworthy and careful service. The company treated me like royalty and handled my things so gingerly. Open Road Moving and Storage employees are very knowledgeable and insightful. Everything was brought in perfect condition and their service was so moving, pun intended of course!
