  1. THE WORST MOVERS EVER!!!!

Simply put, using Purple Heart Moving was the WORST experience ever!!! First take note that Purple Heart is just a ‘middle-man’ so they are marking up the costs of the movers they use. They also like to quote you one price, then steadily increase it before the move and finally hit you with a bill at the time of moving saying the estimate was just wrong. So in the end the move cost about 30% more than quoted to start. The move also took over ONE MONTH!!!!! Yep you read that correct, it took a month to get our belongings. And when we finally received our items (after many many many phone calls and emails), they damaged multiple items, the broke some items, and they even lost/stole a box with a center channel speaker, a receiver and high-end speaker cables. In the end, after filing a dispute, we received $300 – what a joke. So basically here is the racket, they can ‘lose’ a box (steal it I mean), and then since they only pay you pennies on the dollar value, the movers can pocket the items and sell them to make more off you. Oh and they even asked for a 20% tip for all of this nightmare.

So here is how you move. DO NOT USE A MOVING COMPANY, especially not Purple Heart if you do. Go rent yourself a moving van, then pay a handful of buddies say $500 a piece to help you pack up, drive to your new home and unpack. You will save thousands of dollars, less items will be broken, and it will not take a full month to get your items after you arrive in your new home.

  2. Do not I repeat do not use these guys

I called this company thinking they were going to be good. Boy was I wrong! The first person I spoke with was Nick. He was the one that gave me the quote. After speaking with my wife, we elected to go with them. Only to find out they contract out to other moving companies, we had American Knights. Once you sign the contract, Nick is out of the picture and you end up talking to other people within the company only to find out that you end up speaking with someone at American Knights Movers. Purple Heart just so you know takes a third of your moving fee just to locate a moving company. So when I spoke with them, I told them when they should arrive at our home because we sold it and all of our belongings out of our home. So after speaking with American Knights, the movers showed up and it took them 12 hours to load my truck and they only sent 3 people. Two of the guys that packed the truck stated that they needed a total of four people but the driver said they could do it with 3. They didn't have enough packing supplies including boxes paper and tape. It took the driver over 3 hours to find this stuff. Wouldn't you think they would know how much based on what I told them we had. Towards the end of the packing, one of the guys was arguing with the driver about getting paid. This was going on in my home. I just told them that all of our furnishings has to be packed and loaded tonight. You can argue about pay when you are done packing. Now here comes the worse part. We finally had out stuff moved into our new home. We called American Knights about a month before we were closing on our home and they could not tell me if they can deliver our stuff on that day. As we get closer, they would let me know. I kept calling knowing they wouldn't call me. So a couple of days after I called them they called back and said our belongings will arrive a day after closing. We said fine. When the movers showed up with our stuff and started unloading everything, I couldn't believe how much of our stuff got damaged and how many things were missing. So now when we finally got everything unpacked, I reached out to American Knights to file my claim and they sent me a form, but get this, American Knights uses a third party for claims. They made you take pictures and to send them to come up with the price they will give you for everything damaged. No one came out to look everything over to access the damaged, you had to submit it to them. Regardless of what Purple Heart Movers charges, you are better off going with a name brand company like North American, Belkin, etc than to deal with these people. They added much more stress that I needed in life. The only reason we went with this company is that we were told they gave a portion of their fee to help disabled vets. Not sure that was true or not.

  3. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY

Hiring someone to move you across the country is supposed to be the less-stressful option. I cant physically move my belongings into a truck anymore, and I've made the cross country move on my own before. Driving a huge truck with a trailer is very stressful and I vowed to never do that again.

These people are a freakin scam. Suck you in with a low quote, double the price the day before the move (when you have no choice) and just generally stick it to you any way they can. The ONLY thing that they were truthful about was the pickup day, and drop off day. Based on the other horror stories, that was a massive stroke of luck. The moving truck showed up, they started loading and promptly RAN OUT OF ROOM IN THIER TRUCK. At that point I had less than 24 hours to be out of my house and had to find a moving truck at 4pm on a friday. At the end of the day, after insane amounts of stress, I still ended up loading a truck and trailer on my own and driving across the country. WORST. EXPERIENCE. EVER.

  4. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY - I canceled my booked move within the 72-hour window WRITTEN IN THE CONTRACT I signed, and they still refuse to issue me a refund for my deposit. THEY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY AND NEVER CALL YOU BACK.

    DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

  5. Movers

    DO NOT USE!!!!

These movers charged me double the amount that was quoted and only took 75% of what they quoted. They basically hold you hostage till you have no choice to agree to the price. They arrived 5 hours late and didn’t deliver same day as requested.

    This is a scam!!!

  6. Avoid at all costs (detailed review below)

    TL:DR

Do not do business with this company. They lull you with a reasonable quote and all the reassurances in the world that they will bend over backwards to make a process that's already stressful (i.e. moving) easy. The minute they have a deposit, they totally disappear. Customer service has no defense for the fact that they intentionally (and unethically, mind you) give you mis-information. It's also worth noting that at the end of the day, their role adds absolutely no value. They literally get paid a fee to subcontract it out to a cheap, sub-par mover and then wipe their hands of any interest in maintaining a good experience.

    Detailed Version

I cannot stress enough how bad this experience was from start to finish. This company is INTENTIONALLY DECEITFUL. They schmooze you with the sales process - Josh called me every few hours, acted super accessible and gave me every answer I wanted to hear as a prospective mover...then the minute the deposit was paid, he disappeared and Customer Service stepped in (if you could call them that). They were stern and defensive...they started to tell me information inconsistent with what Josh told me. I even doubled-back with Josh at some point to which he told me "don't worry, you're in good hands; I've got you. I think you spoke to the new girl". Lie, lie, lie.

    (1) Josh assures you he will be your POC all the way through, even when they subcontract the move out. FALSE, he was never heard from again the day of pick-up onwards.

    (2) Josh assures you that their role is to make the move easier and help handle logistics. FALSE, they completely shrug responsibility off to the subcontractor and have no intention of managing the relationship.

    (3) Josh told me that legally he had to provide a "4-14 day delivery window" but that realistically it would take closer to 7 (I have in writing). It's now been 15 days and no firm delivery date in sight. The subcontracted movers defended that they technically have up to 30 days with no consequence. Every time I call, they reassure me "it will be on the trailer tomorrow", at which point it should take 9-11 days, mind you.

    (4) Josh assures you that all these things are "of course included" - packing, furniture dis-assembly and assembly - not that I even needed much of it...they picked my stuff up from a storage unit with almost everything packed. The one request I had was for them to help assemble my best upon delivery. Just based solely on the pick up though, I anticipate they will try to charge me a surcharge for it.

    (5) And this is frankly where things go really awry in my mind...they give you the name of a sterling-reputation mover that they will subcontract with...and then the day before the move, you find out (not even from Purple Heart, but from the movers themselves upon calling) that they've done a complete bait-and-switch…

  7. Cancelled service 1 day before move

Purple heart moving company cancelled our move without notification one day before our scheduled move. In our constant calling over a number of days they assured us all was good, then on a day before, on our initiated call, they stated they could not find a mover. As of now they have not and have no intention of refunding us. Poor service and left us to find an immediate replacement at considerable cost to us.

  8. Awful company

I recently moved from California to Colorado. They contracted with another company called SNY Relocation (also awful). Some of my most cherished possessions were lost or stolen. One box was opened and retaped and a bunch of rolled change was stolen. Granted, thelost items were just Christmas decorations but they were items sent to me by my mother over a period of 20 years. Insurance is not going to fix this.

Numerous calls resulted in assurances that my missing boxes would be located but no resolution from the was forthcoming...just empty promises.

Do yourself a favor and find an honest company.

  9. MOVE FROM FLORIDA TO WISCONSIN

This was the worst company we have ever dealt with. Not only would they not come to give an estimate, when they finally got there the price almost doubled. (at this point there is nothing you can do and they know it) You need to be out of your home for the new people to come in. Every thing was an extra fee.

They were suppose to be at our house 9- 10 am. came at 3pm. they didn't finish loading the truck until well past 10:30 pm (for an 1800 sq ft home)

When we finally got our items delivered to our new home, again they show up at 4 pm. The huge semi trailer is packed to the ceiling with at least 5 other moves. They actually stood an 8' ladder on a table to reach the top of the pile. Multiple things were destroyed all irreplaceable items. At one point they were just handing me items that were laying loose in the truck. They unload in such a manner that you can't keep track of any item/box #'s.

Items destroyed include an acrylic pedestal that was from my husbands family ( completely crushed and they had packed it) . A standing jewelry box had a leg snapped off. Our BBQ grill had the fold down side completely ripped off and all dented up. Our stainless steel trash can destroyed. A 4 cube book case actually had a dinning room chair leg ran through it. Multiple plates, glasses and basic kitchen wear smashed.

Now for the best part. I am missing things like all my mixing bowls, my mothers recipe books and lord knows what else. But I can't make claim on missing boxes because you couldn't keep track of what they were taking off the truck to check as delivered.

We have a special desk, a piece that had come all the way from Africa. It's value anywhere from 5 to 10 k. They lost the legs (legs are special hand carved to look like elephant tusks out of a wood I can't even name. I called multiple times to ask them if maybe they got left in the warehouse. Nope. The person in charge at VSNY actually hung up on me. I had to threaten that our son-in-law a professional NFL player & his team mates would tweet, snap chat, facebook and anything else about this crappy company if they didn't find these legs. 4 wks later we get a text message picture of the legs. They are suppose to send them out that week. 2 weeks later I call again, they haven't sent them. I finally received the legs to our desk 2 months after our move.

If you want a work with a company who doesn't care about you or your items. A company who dosen't hold true to there word (by not brokering out jobs) , by all means hire Purple Heart and the VSNY they jobbed us out too. Otherwise I suggest you find a different moving company!

  10. Bait and switch, damaged and lost property

Do not trust this company. Not only did they intentionally under quote the move. They waited until they halfway loaded the truck to tell me that the square footage was DOUBLE what they fraudulently estimated. They then doubled my cost. If that was not enough to cause me anguish they are a now a month in to the move and my belongings are still in some unspecified “warehouse” and they refuse to tell me when it will be delivered. In fact they keep leaving me VMs that my property was loaded and will be delivered in 5-7 days but when I call they tell it was not yet loaded. So which is it? They also refuse to provide updates unless it is within a”12-2” window which is the only time window that will research your delivery. Then they go on to just leave another message that you are loaded and will be delivered in “5-7 days”. They are by far the most unprofessional, incompetents discourteous outfit I have ever had the misfortune to deal with.

Update: when they finally arrived I was given a one hour notice to “get cash” or they would not unload anything. 3 random guys showed up, refused to wear masks, delivered a lot of broken items, had no idea what the box count was and scratched my floors.

  11. Lost box, 2 months late, broken furniture, shattered frames and glass.

Having moved dozens of times in the past including internationally, this was by far the worst moving company. Wardrobe box arrived crushed, with hangers broken into tiny pieces. Chair broken. Picture frame shattered. 1 box completely missing. Never provided a single proactive update on time of delivery. No response from them on missing box. NEVER USE THIS COMPANY.

  12. Extraordinary

I have moved many times in the past with many different moving companies and Purple Heart is by far the best I’ve used. No other company that I have used has put so much effort into making sure that my things were safe. I have a lot of antique items some of which are very fragile and they made a point to make note of anything that could break and treat it with care. It was such a relief to start unpacking and find that not a single thing was damaged. I call that extraordinary service and truly look forward to using them again the next time we relocate.

  13. Highly recommend

We moved from Texas to Louisiana. Our movers were some of the best movers I have ever used. They were very hard working and highly professional. They were also really considerate with our things and made sure they were handled with care. I enjoyed the entire process. It was very easy. I highly recommend working with them.

  14. Do Not Use - RUN!!!

Purple Heart contracts 3rd party movers, takes no responsibility for their poor choices and offers little to know help getting claims resolved. I have been going back and forth with Purple Heart and Cobra Van Lines (3rd party mover) for 9 months. They broke and "lost" thousands of dollars worth of personal items and to date have offered me, $183.00, completely OFFENSIVE and Unprofessional

  15. Recent Move (October 2020)

I have NEVER complained about a moving company before until now but this is the absolute worst company that I have ever dealt with. First off, customer service is nonexistent once they receive your money. Up until then they are very customer friendly but once they have your cash, it's like F, you! A third of my items were Stolen! They shipped things that they were told not to ship like a box of Hazardous Materials and a box of specially ordered liquor which never made it to my home. The shot glasses which were in the same box made it but not the liquor, go figure.
