  1. Metropolitan Movers has 43 better business bureau complaints.

As most of the complaints on this site suggest, this company hires subcontractors. When something gets broken Metropolitan Movers puts the onus on the subcontractor to resolve the claim. This was definitely not communicated with me when booking. I was told that I had full coverage for any damaged items. To make a long story short, Warren the customer service manager simply ignores phone calls and tells you to call Edward the crew manager who also doesn't bother to respond. I will be the 45th person to file a complaint with the bbb. BUYER BEWARE.

  2. Worst experience ever.

WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE! Supposed to pick up at 9am.. showed up at 8:30pm without explanation or communication in between. They were supposed to pack my items and bring materials. They only provided 10 boxes and some tape. I had to provide the rest of the materials and pack my things. It ended up taking two days to pick up my things and then they were a week late delivering. I ended up with items that weren't even mine. I feel like everything they told me was a falsehood. They said they guaranteed my pick up and drop off time. That's the reason I chose them. They said my items were insured for $50K. I found out later that they ended up putting in words in my contract that sounded like what we'd agreed to on the phone but were nothing at all what we talked about. The insurance was really only 50 cents a pound. Technically, I'm still waiting for them to return my calls and tell me how their "investigation" into my complaint is going. It's been two months and the only thing I heard was the story they told the Better Business Bureau when I complained to them.. something about a broken truck on the day of the pickup.. a fact I never heard once in the 100 un-returned calls I made to them. I feel like these people are con artists and will do anything they want to make money. I was charged $4600 for a tiny one bedroom to go from Calgary to Saskatoon because I have no way of verifying how much my things weighed. Worst. Experience. Ever.

  3. Avoid at all costs!!

Contracts out your move to sketcky unprofessional people (not movers) arrived (6 hours after scheduled) with no equipment, no blankets, no experience - damaged my home within the first 15 mins - and we fired them. You will regret hiring this company - your move will be 1000X more stressful!! Hire local - Pay more - these people are not legitamate, do not waste yout time with them. They are all to helpful with scheduling, but horrid with everything afterwards. No responses to attempts to get assistance with repairs from damage they caused.

  4. Liars.

These people contracted to a third party when I specifically asked if they did which the rep responded that they do not. HIRE A LOCAL MOVER AND YOU WILL BE BETTER OFF ESPECIALLY WITH THE UNPROFESSIONAL, INEFFECTIVE, AND INEFFICIENT COMMUNICATION!!They charged me for THREE men to move ONE PC desktop tower sized item which weighs approx. 200 lbs. I am unimpressed and they ripped me off. This is on top of them messing up my moving date so I had to wait for which they claimed to have never offered the proposed date which I originally agreed to. They blamed me. DO NOT USE METROPOLITAN MOVERS!!

  5. Horrible experience.

I hired these movers for a very small move of some items to a ground floor storage locker. After working for about an hour they decided to take a 15 minute break which I should not have to pay for. One kid stayed mostly in the truck messing around while the other one moved items. There moved incredibly slow. I was moving items myself and I am a 50 year old worman and I took multiple loads for every one he took!! We left at the same time to my locker and it was almost 100% highway. Somewhere along the way they seemed to disapear for about 40 mintues. The locker is just off the highway and impossible to miss. Once at the locker they acted the same way, dragging their feet and taking breaks, I even caught one kid sitting in the truck cab texting on his phone. After they finished they billed me for 5 hours. I was livid as they were only working for 4 hours. They went over the 4 hr mark by 5 minutes and explained to me that this was their policy. They even had the nerve to ask me for a tip!! I asked for my receipt and they said it would be emailed to me. When I left them I called Nicole Adams and asked for my bill to be revised to 4 hrs. She told me she would give me 1/2 hr and send me the receipt. I have just called her for a 3rd time and still no receipt.Nicole texted a receipt to me that I cannot read and has the header cut off. Nicole told me that next time I needed a move to call her directly and she'd give me a better deal than her company could as she had her own 4 trucks on the side?? When I spoke to her last night she asked me to do her a "big favour" and that if anyone from her company called me to just tell them I was too busy to talk. She asked me not to tell them as it would mean a lot of paperwork for her. I simply cannot believe the nerve and complete lack of customer service not to mention respect!! I still do not know the amount of my final bill!!
I should not have to pay for the 15 minute break nor the time they wasted in getting to my locker. They were behind me on the highway and there were no traffic issues. They took an extra 40 minutes after I arrived. Therefore, after getting off the highway they had to have stopped somewhere as the locker is not far off the highway.
Nicole's response was that they may have stopped for gas. I told her that would only take a few mintues and was not my problem. They should show up with a full tank ready to go!

  6. Poor Time Management & customer service.

I recently hired Metropolitan Movers for my move on Friday July 4, 2014. I have never hired a moving company before and had always moved with thehelp of friends and a rental truck. I looked up a website that ratedmoving companies and saw that Metropolitan Movers was very well rated with impressive testimonies.  I feel greatly disappointed with the service I received in comparison. Ihad explained when I arranged the moving services that my Husband and I had recently moved back from Australia and were moving our belongings that were in storage in the basement of our In-laws home and being moved into our two bedroom townhouse. There were no appliances being moved; just a king sized bed, couch, kitchen table & chairs and a lot of boxes/tools.  On the day of the move the movers were very prompt and protected thefloors with  fabric runners. We explained what items needed to bepacked. They started at 9am. My husband then went to work while my Inlaws and I were present. I left to go to the townhouse before the movers were done at 11am. The moving truck arrived at 1pm and my brother was present to keep me company. The movers announced that they had another job in Okotoks that started at 3pm and they would have to leave by 2pm. Considering it took 4 hours to load the truck it seemed very unlikelythat they would unload and reassemble the furniture in 1 hour. I came up to the truck to help move things along by looking at the items and telling where they should go. I took a box with me into the garage to show them where most of the boxes could be place and I turned around to see my brother being handed a box. One of the movers then said that "4 people are faster than 2 and they needed to get going to the next job". I felt that I was in a very difficult situation as the movers seemedexhausted and were expecting my help. However, the whole reason I hired your moving company was so that I wasn't moving boxes. My brother and I ended up helping unload the entire truck. At some points we would come out of the house to see one of the movers standing beside the truck and smoking near my belongings! One mover stayed in the truck and moved items forward to be collected and the other mover carried items to the house with my brother and I. I understand that we had a king size mattress that is difficult to move with only two people and had no problem helping with that specific item; but at no point were any straps or lifts used to assist. At the end of the job (2:45pm) I paid the full amount because I felt very rushed by the movers since they had to go to their next job. I briefly mentioned that my brother and I had to help unload the wholetruck in the comments section. I mentioned this to my husband as well as other people who have used movers before and was told that this was completely unacceptable. I should not have had to help the movers do their job while still paying $110/hr. I feel like the company did not allocate an appropriate amount of time for the movers to successfully complete their job and I feel it was inappropriate for the movers to put me in the difficult situation whereI was made to feel that I had to help them with unloading the entire truck. When I submitted my formal complaint to the customer service of Metropolitan Movers it was passed onto Patrick, the guy in charge of the move that day and I was simply told that there was nothing wrong with what they did that day. The customer service and response to complaints was of very poor quality.

  7. Cancenlled.

The lady on the phone told me they had storage facilities in my city. They were suppose to come to move me on the 19th of July and on Tuesday at 8:55 P.M.  I got a call from the mover telling me that they were overbooked and couldn't do the move between 8 & 9 am. He informed me that they would be here in the afternoon sometime.  Well that just did not work for me. The mover wanted me to move on the previous Friday and I said that couldn't happen as I didn't get the keys then. I thought I would have to put my stuff in storage and the fellow informed me that my stuff would have to travel to Winnipeg instead of my city and that I would be charged mileage to and back from Winnipeg.  Well that did not cut it in my books. When I sent an email to the company the next morning complaining about this performance the  moving specialist informed me that head office would contact me.  Well that did not happen until after lunch.  How can one rely on this type of service. I was informed when I called this company to inquire about moving me they told me that if I cancelled there was a $300.00 fee.  They asked for my credit card so I gave them the number, then they wanted the number on the back of the card and I wouldn't give it to her.  I called the visa company and told them not to put any bill throught for this company. Head office informed me that there would be not charge as it was their mistake.  He apologized which doesn't help me at all. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO MOVE ANYTHING.

  8. Disappointed.

These are the worse people to deal with. I moved with them Jan/2014 and since then I am still waiting to get things resolved. They broke a glass on my cabinet and they broke one of my tables leg. They were not honest enough to tell me, so what these unprofessionals did was tape the leg of my table back together. We have emailed them countless times and endless phone calls and still today July/2014, no news yet.  Please trust me do not bother with these unprofessional dishonest people.

  9. Shake down on moving day.

This is not a moving company - they contract to other third party movers in your city and misrepresent themselves!! Obtained a quote for a 3 bedroom house move, working with the company online and over the phone. Disclosed that we had alot of heave items including 6 big screen tv's. Was told only extra charge would be for washer/dryer and gym equipment and two movers is all that would be needed. On the day of the move, three movers showed up at my door and I was informed that there would be an additional $40/ hour charge because I had so much stuff. I had committed to moving that day and was forced to agree to the terms. I decided to argue the charge with MEtropolitan as these guys were NOT Metroplitan movers but a sub-contracted company representing them. Of the three movers, only one was experienced and continually corrected the other two on how to properly pick up and load items which added considerable time to the move compared to an experienced team use to moving people. They were very nice guys but not the quality I would have expected - it was like having inexperienced friends help me move. The move took eleven hours and two trips to the new house that is not even five minutes away even though I had dissassembled the bedroom and living hardware to speed the process. We did not take many items that I will move now on my own.. the house is far from empty. By comparison, a close friend had also planned a move that day with a five bedroom house and utilized just her family and a couple of close friends. Their new house is a 45 minute drive from the old and they still completed the move just over ten hours, making two trips. While the crew was punctual and easy to work with, this was not the service I expected and Metro movers has declined to acknowledge any fault. I would not recommend using this shady company for anything.

  10. Worst Movers Ever! Incompetent and Dishonest!

Worst Movers Ever! Not only did they not fit all our stuff on the truck and left 4 feet of empty space across the entire 24 feet of the truck, which meant we had to rent a UHaul and move the rest of ourselves another day with a newborn -- next to impossible, but also they dissappeared for 5 hours which meant our moving day was much longer than it needed to be -- again, not ideal with a newborn.

They double-booked in order to make money off the truck but becuase of that they were rushing. I had asked for help packing -- it's very hard to pack up everything with a small baby, and the stuff they did pack they threw hastily into a box and I had to repack to ensure no damages. Unfortunately while I was nursing, they packed up an area I specifically asked them not to pack, but only noticed after they had finished moving that portion of the house that they had packed it regardless of my instructions -- now a very sentimental and expensive item is missing. I asked the movers directly if they had seen it and they denied it.

So, not only did they improperly pack my items, improperly pack the truck, steal an invaluable item, but they double-booked, got lost, and dissappeared for 5 hours -- they had my baby's bed, which means, I couldn't put her to bed until they finally arrived.

I've hired many professional movers and I went with Metropolitan Movers/ Ottawa Movers becuase of the high rating and level of credibility -- I was so disappointed. They were rude, barely understood my instructions, were incompetent, lied to me to get me to pay cash, and asked me to lie to their bosses about how many hours it took them so they could steal from their bosses. The movers and the company continue to refuse to provide me with a proper invoice -- all because I paid cash because the movers told me we had to as it was so late at night when they finished, they claimed the office was closed.

They also claimed they were moving quickly to benefit us, but because of their hasty job, we had to pay the extra money for a truck rental and then it took us 2 more full days of moving ourselves (you try moving with a baby) to finally finish the job -- especially because of the 2 hours of driving tagged onto the move (1 hour each way).

DO NOT GO WITH THIS MOVING COMPANY IF YOU WANT THE JOB DONE EVEN REMOTELY CORRECT -- THEY SCREWED UP EVERY ASPECT OF MOVING!

  11. Good Service.

Metropolitan Movers is just so awesome. I am a type of person who handles my things and stuff with care and it really gives me stress everytime we are moving here and there (coz of my husbands work).Upon the transportation to our drop-off location, my things were stored securely and the movers were so efficient. I am trully happy with you guys. I will remember you in our next move.

  12. Moving and storage.

The guys were terrific in their own way. When they're on the way, they called so we can get ready, they have a positve aura when they arrived and they finished the job 30 minutes less than the time qouted. My move the other day was really stress-free. You made it well. Thanks!

  13. Affordable and fair qoute.

So glad I chose this company w/ my move. They were affordable and they provided a fair qoute. Their movers were very helpful and hardworking. I hope they will be delighted to hear that I was so pleased with my experience. They were simply awesome. Thanks! .

  14. I am recommending this company!

The 3 guys who helped me with my move were very friendly and professional.I  found them working fast yet caring to my things and furniture. I have moved like  more than 10 times now since I was in college and I can say this company has the  best guys ever. All my belongings were handled carefully and on the day of the  move they were not even late. It was great even on the final price. I don't know  when I'll be moving again but I will be keeping them in mind for sure.

  15. Worst experience as a customer in my life.

On top of the rate being upped the day before the move because the first rep I talked to didn't ask about my deep freeze aka "appliances" so the 110 an hour became 150 with out me being given enough time to shop. the move time got pushed foward by an hour. there was no mention in the phone call that metro subcontracted to fly by night companies the company I got "motion express" comprised of to men who spoke little english and one guy who was on his first day on the job, he ended up quitting because of how unproffessional the other 2 were. it took them 8 hours just to load the truck I was moving from a single floor 900 square foot main floor of a duplex. they dropped multiple boxes dropped my deep freeze down my front steps they spent as much time arguing as they did working, almost everyt peice of furnature they moved ended up damaged. at the new house they took almost 2 hours to find a replacement for the guy who walked off the job they scratched or damaged my walls in around 20 places. put almost every box in the wrong room spent more time arguing on the front street, they were carrying 20 pound boxes one at a time I ended up having to help just to get the move finished. all in all they took over 12 hours to complete a move from a 900 square foot unit to a town house. I tried contacting metropolitain movers 8 hours into the move to tell them how horrible the move was going and that the move was going to be way over my budget as well as not worth what the final charge was becomming they told me they would call me back in 15 min they never called back the final bill is still being delt with. .
