  1. Awful experience / customer service

    As I write this review, I'm shocked and upset that it's come to this. Dumbo movers used to be the absolute best, but I recently moved with them in Sept of '21 and the experience from the boxes to the actual move was horrendous. I assumed I was going to receive bins to move, and after calling to check on that, the rep accused me of "putting words in his mouth" and said "well at this point you need to find and pack boxes for your move tomorrow and you can't cancel or we will have to charge you". After much scouring, I was able to pull it together and find boxes to pack but then on moving day, the movers showed up, demanded a 20% cash tip before starting work on anything and broke a 1 year old $2,000 West End Table. The move was a 10 block move, so no bridges or tunnels were crossed, so I'm really confused how this could happen. When reaching out to the movers, I was told that I didn't select insurance and the best they could do was to provide $200 which was 1/10 of the table's value. What's the point of paying over $500 to move 10 blocks if you're not going to be liable for the damage your movers make?! I followed up with the company and have since been ghosted by the customer service representative handling my "case". Super unprofessional and hire at your own risk! If they break anything, they'll not be liable for it.

  2. A BIG SCAM COMPANY

    They are the worst company to use. Give you one price then hold your items until you pay more then the original price. Workers very nasty and rude. Had only one person unloading 3 rooms of furniture. Other man sat in the truck. They do not give full information upfront. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY THEY ARE SCAMMING PEOPLE. I CANNOT SAY IT ENOUGH DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. IEILL BE LOOKING AT LEGAL HELP WITH GETTING MY MONEY BACK. ALSO THIS WAS DONE TO MY DAUGHTER A SINGLE BLACK WOMAN

  3. False quotes and poor customer service!!!!

    A very unprofessional company that clearly has no idea how to do a good job since giving a completely different quote when first contacted and later on added hundreds of dollars to the total. And the person I communicated was definitely not an experienced representative and stated when i asked why the charge changed "this is not a bazaar in Bangladesh" ?? I was hoping they were a professional moving company in NYC but with that kind of answer I am convinced they are far from professional and I would not ever use or recommend them,

  4. They caused $16,000 in damages!

    Our tenants moved out of the rental unit and used Dumbo Moving & Storage for their move. The crew from Dumbo Moving & Storage caused $16,000 in damages to the newly stained floors of the building entry and the apartment, the walls - including a custom tile wall. It's been 2 months since we initiated the claim with their insurance company and we just keep getting the run around.

    Dumbo Moving & Storage is unprofessional, unresponsive, and avoids accountability for their errors. Do yourself a favor and book a different company.

  5. WARNING: DO NOT USE DUMBO!

    NIGHTMARE of a move with Dumbo.

    If I could give zero stars I would!

    DO NOT USE THEM!

    They are more expensive then any other movers i chose them thinking at least I would get good service....

    Boy was I WRONG!

    1. They kept adding hidden fees that added to well over TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS. (All after my stuff was already on the truck).

    2. The movers scratched and damaged my furniture. (They told me it was the movers first week on the job)

    Why would Dumbo hire inexperienced movers???

    3. THEY LEFT WITHOUT FINISHING THE JOB!

    My children had to sleep on the FLOOR.

    Dumbo decided to leave before setting up the beds and children cribs. (They are supposed to set it up according to the contract).

    4. I WAS BULLIED VIA HARRASMENT TEXTS AND CALLS from Matt and Vlad from management and the driver any time i brought up a concern.

    5. They delivered on my Friday night (my sabbath) when we agreed in contract not to.

    6. I had a very small move and it took them over 13 hours to complete since the movers didn't want to work!

    6. THEY LEFT MY STUFF IN THE STREET UNATTENDED! They apparently had somewhere more important to be during the move!

    Maybe some of my stuff were stolen!

    7. They left after the move with their moving equipment in my house making a huge inconvenience for me and my family. It's all still in my house.

    8. When I tried calling for customer service they didn't care and simply told me to deal with it.

    9. When packing my furniture they put tape directly on all my things now I have duct tape glued to all my furniture!

    I WOULD NEVER ADVISE SOMEONE TO USE DUMBO.

    DO NOT USE THEM.

    BETTER USE ANYONE ELSE.

    TRUST ME.

    IT IS SIMPLY NOT WORTH IT IF ANYTHING GOES WRONG THEY WILL THROW YOU DIRECTLY UNDER THE BUS!

    I have video documentation of all the above.

    I never want someone to have the experience my family went through.

    Please, DO NOT use Dumbo!

  6. Broken Item

    TLDR: They broke one of only 5 pieces of furniture I was moving and refused to compensate me more than 1/3 of the value of the item (which seems to be a trend looking at some other reviews).

    I moved many of my belongings myself for this move, hiring Dumbo Moving to move only my largest pieces of furniture, as I had many fragile items that I wanted to ensure did not get broken in a large moving operation. In the end, along with a few miscellaneous boxes the movers only had to move 5 pieces of furniture. The entire cost of the move itself was only $345 before tip and the piece itself was worth $300, meaning that the piece that was broken was worth almost as much as the entire cost of the move. The movers also informed me that the company insists on a 20% tip ($70 for my move) after they had broken my item.

    When I contacted their claims department I was told that I had not purchased the premium insurance and so my piece would be valued at 60 cents a pound. I informed them that I had attempted to contact the insurance company and had been unable to because the number listed did not work. They ignored this and refused to budge on their offer.

    I told them that the piece had sentimental value. They ignored this and refused to budge on their offer.

    The saddest detail is that I had moved this piece before using a TaskRabbit and there were no issues and not a mark on the piece. I believed I was hiring professional movers to do a task that I had seen executed smoothly by an amateur.

    All in all I will not be using Dumbo Moving again and will encourage people I know to avoid them.

  7. Unprofessional

    My experience with Dumbo moving is the worst. Don’t even think about it using them. The whole process is a hostage situation with unending demand for ransom. If you care about your property, stay away from Dumbo moving.

  8. Dumbo Moving NYC to Denver

    Dumbo moving was amazing both during pick-up and delivery for my cross-country move from NYC to Denver. They were prompt and were not pushy after I had requested an interest quote. I personally hate moving companies that leave me 2 voicemails a week + on top of weekly email reminders ... Dumbo moving never did that. If you're interested, they'll help you out, but they won't aggressively beg for your service.

    As for any moving company, literally read ALL the fine print, all the emails, all the documents they forward along to you ASAP - and you won't have any issues or unforeseen costs. Dumbo Moving is upfront and transparent, but you, as the customer, must still do your share of the work. I also liked that they delivered two days after my own earliest opportunity to accept the boxes. I received the keys to my apartment on June 8th and all my items arrived on June 10th. I consider that to be a speedy delivery - kudos to the long-distance coordinators for their logistics planning. I really liked that they gave me a geo-location tracker for my delivery truck. Thanks to that, I was never left wondering where my items were in the continental US.

    Furthermore, it really meant a lot to me that when I labeled my boxes with an arrow facing up, they adhered to my request and kept them in the correct orientation ... Unlike all the FedEx/UPS/USPS/Amazon prime delivery videos we have seen where all the boxes are merely tossed into the truck.

    Overall, I would highly recommend Dumbo Moving, but you must do a lot of work in advance to make it an extremely smooth process. Box everything you can, use the same tape for your boxes so they're easy to spot in a crowd of long-distance hauls, label your boxes with #s/ your initials on each side, etc. Make your items obvious, so they can't be lost and accidentally misplaced onto a truck heading in another direction. If you have items that can't be put into a box, I recommend wrapping them before the movers arrive. The more work you do on your own, the less of a chance there will be for an item to be missed/misplaced/scratched/damaged.

    First of all, the process was made absolutely painless and smooth thanks to our sales rep Chris! Chris was very helpful, professional and very quick to respond to my questions and inquiries always available (both on phone and email). The movers were very efficient and professional. I'm extremely pleased with our whole experience. I would highly recommend this company

  10. A Scamming Company

    This company gave us a low estimate, around $600 ~ $700 at the end of July 2000. Then on the moving day, they asked for an additional $700 because "the bed is too difficult to take apart". They said if we refused to pay, they would just leave. We had lease contracts and service elevator reservations with the place we are moving to and moving from. Thus, we had no choice but to pay the ransom fee. The bed is just a regular West Elm bed. Beware, do not use this company!

  11. YOU WILL REGRET IF YOU HIRE DUMBO MOVING

    I HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO NOT DO ANY BUSSINES WITH DUMBO FOR YOUR MOVING/STORAGE OR YOU WILL REGRET IT!

    They asked me to pay the full amount before they can start the job. Then the nightmare began.

    All items were included in the quote Dumbo sent me but at the end of the job property manager called me and sent me pictures of items left behind.

    When I call to follow up with Eric, he said I need to pay an extra $996 for him to go back again to take the items they left.

    Also, they kept demanding a 20% tip even though they did not finish the job. They are refusing to refund a few hundred dollars back.

    FYI... I gave them time to make it right, but they ignored me.

    This is the worst moving company ever extremely unprofessional. All the phone operators are terrible they just hang up on you. The movers never showed up. This is a scamming moving company do not book your move with this company. They are the worst

  13. Pay for What You Don't Get

    We hired Dumbo for our April 30 move from Brooklyn. We paid for packing up of our kitchen to avoid wrapping all the fragile items. We also expected them to treat our items with some level of care, especially those that were more fragile. During the move, they failed to pack up any of the fragile cups, glasses or bowls we had paid for them to pack, leaving me to finish the move myself. The movers basically didn't want to do it (neither did we, that's why we paid for the service), so they didn't do it. They also didn't wrap or protect our nice dining chairs in any way, resulting in one of the wooden legs breaking during the move. The movers also, halfway through packing up our apartment, demanded additional payment for "15-20" extra boxes when there were at most 5 extra medium boxes, and falsely claimed our two-story move was actually a three-story move that required additional payment, in cash. Classic scam technique. Since they had all our items and we needed to be out of the apartment that day, I felt compelled to pay them to complete the move and not break more of our stuff. After the move, they have been unapologetic and I've had to fight for every inch. They have reluctantly given a small, partial refund for not packing the kitchen, but refuse to replace the chair they carelessly broke. I had actually used Dumbo twice before, about 7 and 4 years ago, and thought they were good, no complaints. Something must have changed in management because they no longer hire professional movers and act in a very dishonest way. I used to recommend them but now I strongly recommend you look elsewhere. Moving is stressful and expensive enough without having to deal with day-of-moving scams, careless movers that break your stuff, and movers that won't do the job you paid them for.

  14. DO NOT USE

    With summer time approaching I am sure many people out there are starting to look for moving companies. There are endless options, do yourself a favor and DONT USE DUMBO for any reason.

    PLEASE do not put yourself in the cross hairs of Dumbo. READ THE OTHER REVIEWS. These people have no values, greed is all they know.

    This company has no shame.

    The crew that packed our goods was a very nice group, however they refused to wear masks due the heavy exertion they faced with moving. They said they were not mandated by their employer to wear them, a prime example of Dumbo's practices as a business.

    Once they finished packing it would be almost 5 months until I saw my goods again as Dumbo was paid to store them on a pallet in a climate controlled unit. When they were delivered them they were caked in mold, almost all of my furniture was DESTROYED, almost $20,000 in damage. The crew told me when they showed up to get the goods at the "climate controlled warehouse" they were just sitting on the floor. Clearly they ran out of storage space and tossed my goods wherever they had room.

    I am an understanding person, I realize the flood of business that resulted in the exodus from the city. Luckily, everything that was destroyed was replaceable. I was reassured by the claims manager, Anthony Callazo, that Dumbo "always does the right thing" in these unique situations. Unfortunately for me I believed him.

    I was unable to move into my home for several weeks since we had no furniture, Since mold was involved I was instructed by Anthony to dry clean all of my cloths and that I would be reimbursed for this expense, almost $2k. Didnt happen. On moving day the crew crashed the truck into my walkway, I was told to get it fixed and that I would be immediately reimbursed, another $500 out of pocket, Guess what didnt happen?

    The next 3.5 months were utter hell with being bounced from Anthony to their insurance broker to their insurance agency and back to good old Anthony. We had an accepted settlement, which was broken within the hour. Then I was offer a few hundred dollars on a $20k claim. I was told they paid the wrong claim, then I was told they didnt have any money to pay my claim (which was the move comical response of all time), then I was told the insurance company would pay me. Round and round we went.

    They REFUSED to take responsibility and pay my claim. Mistakes happen, but Dumbo will not own up to them. They do not care about their customers, they know they can treat people this way because consumers have limited ways to fight back. They say this was a "one time thing" and move on. It is shocking to me that people like this exist in the world.

    NOTE, if you end up filing an insurance claim I would do the exact opposite of anything they ask you to do. Their insurance broker intentionally mislead me a number of times, including advising me to not reply to offers to settle being made by Dumbo and that all offers needed to be made by the insurance company. The broker is shady and morally corrupt.

  15. My mover from New York to Florida

    In February 2021 I moved from New York to Florida. Christine moved my furniture from Brooklyn to my new place in South Florida. He was very careful and efficient with all of my furniture and boxes. Very friendly and accommodating. If you can Ask for Christine to move your furniture and all valuables.
